McCoy stared.
"Spock?"
No reaction.
"Spock, what are you doing?"
Spock shifted his feet but never took his eyes off the wall. "I am attempting to change the color of this wall with my mind."
McCoy looked at the spot Spock was staring at. "Doesn't seem to be working."
"Shh," Spock said. "Patience, Doctor."
McCoy rolled his eyes. No wonder Jim had sent him here immediately after the landing party returned; something was definitely wrong with the Vulcan.
"Come on, Spock," he said, guiding him away from his wall. "Let's check you out."
Spock giggled. "But, Doctor, I am alright."
"The fact that you giggled proves you're not 'alright'," McCoy retorted. "Now sit here while I call the captain."
Spock sat cross-legged on the bio-bed and bounced his knees.
"Captain, can you come down to Sickbay?" McCoy asked.
"Sure, Bones, how's Spock?" McCoy looked back at the Vulcan. He was now trying to do a handstand by bracing himself against the bio-bed.
"I don't know how to answer that," McCoy said, stupefied.
"Okay, I'm coming."
A moment later Jim Kirk showed up in Sickbay.
"Jim, just what happened down there?" McCoy demanded. He'd been trying to run a medical scanner over Spock, but the Vulcan kept grabbing at it.
"Well, we sort of had a run-in with a plant," Kirk said.
"A plant?"
"Yeah. Spock got pricked by one of its thorns and, well…" he trailed off as they watched Spock try to sing 'Ave Maria'.
McCoy walked over to him and took a blood sample.
"Ow!" Spock said. He glared at the doctor. "That was unnecessary."
"Shows what you know," McCoy grumbled. "Christine?!"
Nurse Chapel walked in. "Yes, Doctor?"
He met her at the door. "Can you run this down to the lab, please? A floral toxin is driving our Vulcan crazy-"
At his words there was a loud crash. Spock had tried to run the length of Sickbay using the bio-beds as hurtles.
"Captain, control your First Officer!" McCoy yelled as he reached for a hypo.
"Sorry," Kirk grunted. He reached for Spock, but he scuttled away at the last second. The Vulcan continued to avoid the two men while Christine ran her errand.
"Doctor!" Chapel called, running back into the room. "It was a known species! Here's the anti-toxin."
"Thanks," McCoy whirled around. "Where'd he go?"
Kirk tapped a desk. "He's under here," he said. "And won't come out."
Muttering, McCoy got on his hands and knees and peered underneath to where the Vulcan was hiding. Spock swiped at him when he reached out with the hypo.
"Damn it!" he cursed, retreating. "How do we get him out of there?"
Kirk brightened. "We lure him out."
"Huh?"
"Come on Bones," Kirk slapped his back. "What do Vulcans like?"
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
"Spock?"
"Heeeere, Spock."
"Spock, we have a calculus textbook for you!"
A Vulcan head stuck out. The room appeared empty yet, yet sitting in the middle of the room was… a math book!
Spock scrambled out and dashed for the book. Instantly he was tackled by a flash of yellow.
"Hold still, Spock!" Kirk grunted as he struggled. McCoy injected him and they all fell back.
"Captain," Spock said calmly. "What are you doing?"
"Erm," Kirk scrambled off his First Officer as McCoy choked back a laugh.
"Feeling better, Spock?"
"Yes, much," he answered, straightening his uniform.
"Do you remember anything?" McCoy asked eagerly.
"Doctor, 'anything' is a very broad term. I can remember back to as far as my second birthday-"
"I know that, Spock, I mean do you remember anything about the plant?" McCoy interrupted irritably.
"Plant?" Spock blinked.
"You know, Spock, the thorns, the childish behavior afterwards," Kirk added.
"I'm afraid I don't know what you gentlemen are talking about," Spock said, and walked out of the room.
