Lizzie POV-

I was sweating a little under the hot stage lights as I belted out the words to one of my own songs.

This particular song was one of the first I had written when I had started singing with this band. I remember when I had written it, it was about this time last year, when I had to explain to Missy why I was ditching her in the middle of dress shopping. I had entitled it "Secrets," and although I couldn't see out into the audience, I imagined that Missy was smiling.

We had been playing for about half an hour now, which meant that there was still an hour and a half left before I would actually get to dance with my date.

When the song finished I wiped off my face and moved over for Carter to sing lead for this song.

"Go, both of you," he gestured to me and Logan, putting down his bass guitar and picking up his regular, six-stringed, guitar—which he rarely uses because I'm the one who always plays lead.

"What?" I asked, surprised.

"I've got this," he told me with a small smile, "Now go. There's someone out there who wants to dance with you."

I smiled, understanding. I guess this next song will have to be acoustic.

"Thanks, Carter," I told him, setting my guitar down in its stand and walking off the stage as the first few notes of the song started to play. Logan followed behind me, making a beeline for Dani.

It was a slow love song. I saw couples pairing off all over the dance floor and standing close to one another. On my way across the dance floor, I shoved Grayson towards Missy. He glared at me but he didn't complain.

Finally I saw Alex, standing by himself towards the back of the gym.

When he saw me approach, he smiled widely, his multicolor eyes glinting emerald green.

"Would you care to dance?" he asked holding out his hand.

I grinned, taking it and allowing him to lead me onto the dance floor.

I looped my hands behind his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me close. I glanced across the dance floor and noticed that Grayson had (finally) asked Missy to dance. They seemed to be very cozy in each other's embrace.

I rested my head on Alex's chest as we swayed to the music. We fit perfectly together, which, I'm sure, was a result of his genetically engineered genes, but I wasn't complaining. I looked up at him. He smiled at me contently and leaned down to kiss me. I kissed him back.

I couldn't help but think about how different this was from our first kiss.

But I still felt the fireworks when his lips touched mine.

The song came to a close, which meant that I would be needed back on the stage.

Reluctantly, I broke the kiss.

"I've got to go," I sighed quietly.

"I know. I'll be here when you come back," he told me, kissing me lightly one more time before letting me go.

Grayson POV-

I felt Lizzie nudge me towards Missy and I turned to glare at her. But she didn't seem to be paying much attention to me as she made her way across the gym to see Alex.

Chuckling a little, I walked over to Missy.

She really looked stunning. Her dress and matched her eyes perfectly. It was embedded with hundreds of tiny little crystals that sparkled under the lights. Her blonde hair was done in elegant, spiral, curls that fell over her shoulders like a waterfall.

"Would you like to dance?" I asked her, when the lyrics to the song had begun.

"Absolutely," she replied, grinning brightly and allowing me to lead her onto the dance floor.

I thought it would be a little awkward but it wasn't. She wrapped her arms around my neck and moved closely to me.

We swayed side to side to the music and I was held, transfixed, by her thoughtful gaze.

I don't know what made me do it, perhaps it was the song, perhaps it was the light, perhaps it was the way Missy looked at me, but I leaned in and kissed her.

What surprised me more was that she kissed me back.

We were still kissing when the song changed and when my sister rejoined her band on stage and began to sing again.

When we did finally break apart (although, I'm not sure how many songs had played within that time) Missy smiled at me.

"I love you, Missy," I told her. I hadn't really intended to say that, it just kind of happened. But now the words were out there, and I couldn't take them back.

"I love you too," she replied without an ounce of hesitation, her beautiful smile lighting up her face.

I smiled back at her and kissed her again.

I had wanted to say those words to her for years.

From the first moment I met her, I had had a crush on her. But I hadn't really started to fall in love with her until she had fallen asleep on my lap in the middle of a movie when we were only ten years old. I had always been afraid to tell her because I didn't want to screw up our friendship or make things awkward.

Lizzie never thought that our friendship would be hindered; she'd been trying to get us together since I first told her I liked Missy—when we were in third grade. Perhaps I should have taken her advice earlier.

"You're damn right you should have!" Lizzie thought indignantly at me.

I simply rolled my eyes.

Some things never change.
