This chapter is gonna be a little short since most of this episode is a flashback sequence. I'm also gonna leave you guys on a cliffhanger, but I'll try to get the next chapter up soon since I'm on winter break. I hope you all did good on your finals if you had them, and are enjoying your break! Enjoy and please review!
Stiles and I were carrying Liam into the school while blood was just gushing out of his abdomen. Truth is I could have carried him all by myself, and it probably would have been quicker, but Stiles insisted. There was a loud growl from behind us, making us move just a little faster than before, and Hayden was following us frantically. As we got to one of the hallways that would lead into the classrooms, a hoard of students, parents, and athletes came running.
We each stopped, looking around at the panic. Everyone was running in every which way they could, making it harder for us to pinpoint where the Beast actually was. I looked around, deciding the safest bet was away from where everyone was running. "This way." I mumbled before just simply picking Liam up, and kicking a door open into one of the science rooms.
Stiles and Hayden ran ahead of me, knocking things off of a nearby desk to place Liam on. Once I put him down, he began screaming frantically, and I didn't blame him. His chest was cut to ribbons. "Okay," Stiles began, not sure what to do for him.
"Liam!" Hayden called out, but he just continued to cry out in pain.
"I'm okay." He groaned out. "I'm fine."
"No, you're not." I almost laughed out while tearing apart his jersey to get a better look at the wound. As we did that, Hayden ended up pulling a piece of his skin off.
Stiles began to gag as my mouth dropped from the sight. "Is it bad?" Liam asked, looking back and forth at all of our faces.
"No." Hayden and I answered at the same time just as Stiles answered, "Very."
We both turned to look at him, giving him an angry face which of course he just shrugged to in the usual Stiles fashion. "Okay," Hayden spoke, looking back to Liam. "What do you guys usually do when this happens?"
"I usually pass out." Stiles answered, his breath very deep from the sight and smell of the blood. "Still might do that."
Stiles then began to fall over, his eyes getting heavy. "Stiles!" Both Hayden and I yelled at the same time.
He straightened himself out, gaining his slipping consciousness back. "Okay. Scott did this with pain."
"He could trigger it." I almost yelled out at Hayden from the clicking information feeling. "Pain makes you human."
Liam let out a loud groan again, making me begin to think this wouldn't work. "He's already in pain." Hayden argued with us.
"Right, okay," Stiles began as I shook my head at him. "But maybe adding a little more could help take away the pain."
"Take away his pain." Hayden mumbled to herself. That's when she leaned down, and moved into Liam's face, kissing him once. When they pulled away, Liam didn't seem to be in much pain, and that's when I realized she took his pain by kissing him.
"Next time I'll kiss him." Stiles scoffed as Liam's head fell back with some relief. Hayden smiled at him, but I just continued to stand there.
I looked around at the room, wondering if we were really safe in here while the Beast was doing who knows what to all those people out there. He was probably killing people out there, and Derek was still out there. I shut my eyes, trying to single in on his heartbeat, but everyone's heartbeats were going too fast for me. My eyes popped open, and I knew what I had to do it. "I have to stop it." I whispered before tearing myself away from the small circle. "I have to find Derek." That's when I began to move towards the door, but Stiles quickly jumped in front of me.
"Hey!" He yelled, blocking my path in the process. "You're not going anywhere."
"Stiles, get out of my way." I was so frustrated that I laughed, knowing just him standing in front of me, wasn't going to stop me.
"No." He was holding his ground, making me want to punch him. "Bree, the Beast is going to kill anyone who gets in its' path, and I am not going to let it be you."
"You're not my dad." I whispered to him, almost successfully maneuvering out of his way, but he was able to get right back into it.
"You are going to die if you go out there." Stiles whispered it very lowly, so Hayden wouldn't hear, but he forgot the fact that she is a supernatural.
"Everyone is going to die if I don't go out there." Stiles just shook his head at me again. "Stiles," I whispered out angrily. "Either move or I will make you move."
He mulled it over for a moment, gulping before stepping out of the way. I stared at him as I walked to the door. Before I left, I offered him a small smile. "I'm coming back."
He gave me a weak smile before nodding, tears obviously collecting in his eyes. "Yeah, well, you better."
I offered him one last smile before walking out the door, fully exposed like fresh baked cookies to the Beast. The hall was cleared, almost like a ghost town. I looked both ways down the hall, assuming everyone had found hiding spots or managed to get out of the high school. I took a deep breath before ultimately deciding to go right.
That's when I heard growling and screaming again. I hurried down the rest of the hall, but right when I was about to turn down another hall where the screaming was coming from, someone stepped in my way. That familiar smug smile on her face as she walked towards me, making me step back. There was no way she was here. There was no way. We locked her out. "I would not do that if I were you." She warned in that thick Italian accent before fixing the crown on her head.
I looked her up and down, and she was still wearing that same tan and red ball gown from what felt like ages ago. Well, what technically was ages ago. "You're not real. You can't be real."
"Or," Giulietta spoke as she stepped towards me again. "When you died, for like the tenth time – "
"Third." I corrected, already annoyed with her, and I hadn't even been around her that long.
"Third time," she corrected. "was I woken up in you again?"
I just stared at her blankly before shaking my head. This could not be happening again. "I'm gonna kill myself."
"Well," Giulietta sighed out with a shrug. "That's not going to benefit either of us."
"What are you gonna do here now, huh? You come to make this situation way worse? Did you come to take my powers again? Or did you come to take down the whole universe this time?"
"Oh, don't be so dramatic." She told me with an eye roll. "Actually," her smile got a little wider as she threw her hands up playfully. "I've come to help."
I had to look at her for a moment before I began to smile. There was no way. The more I thought about it, I ended up laughing right in her face. When I came back up, I was gasping through chuckles. She looked pissed, but I just couldn't control myself. "I'm sorry." I wheezed out, still needing a minute to regain my composure. I was finally able to look at her, and the more I chuckled, the angrier she looked. "You're going to help?" She nodded like it was obvious, adding a little eye roll in there. "I'm sorry," I spoke again, my smile gone right when I realized she was serious. "But did you forget who you are?"
"Look at my stats right now." She pointed at me when she spoke, trying to communicate how serious she was getting. "I tried to take your power, and that did not work out at all in my favor. When I helped you, I got some help in return through your power. Now, I basically have nothing to lose. So, why wouldn't I try to help you?"
"Because you're Giulietta." I almost screamed at her before shaking my head. "Helping is not in your interest. You don't help. You only destroy."
"Oh, please." She scoffed out again, making me roll my eyes that time. There was no way she thought I was going to trust her after everything she had done to me. "Let me remind you that the only reason I was acting maliciously was because of passion." It was my turn to scoff now. "Theo is just a prick."
I held a tight smile while staring at her, and all I wanted to do was punch her. That was the one downside about her being a ghost. The only way I was going to get rid of her was by ignoring her. I had to just keep ignoring her. "I have to find my fiancé."
I tried to move past her, but she grabbed my arm and tugged hard. I looked down at her hands around my arm before slowly looking back up at her face. She shouldn't have been able to do that. How the hell did she do that? "I've working on things since we last talked."
My eyes got wider as we both just stared at each other. There was something there. Maybe a weird connection from being her doppelgänger. I don't know. But for a moment, we shared something. An understanding? Magic?
There was then a crash and the sound of a struggle. We both turned to look, but in a second, I was able to pull out of her grip and run to where the sound had come from. I ran to the science hall, and was immediately met with the Beast throwing Scott out of a room. I gasped, and that's when I knew there was nothing I could do. Screw being the hero for one night, I had to run. And Derek obviously wasn't here.
I took off down the other hallway, and ran into the library. I stopped there, regaining my breath until the doors flew open again. I jumped what felt like three feet in the air from shock, but noticed it was just Scott. "Are you okay?" He asked as he hurried towards me. I nodded before letting out a cough.
We both took a moment to just stand there and actually get our breath back. "Have you seen Derek?" I asked him, trying to look over his face to find an answer. After a moment, he simply just shook his head. I let out a large sigh, wishing I just knew where he was already. That's when we heard growls outside the library.
We both began to back up while looking back and forth from each other to the doors where the growling was coming from. As we continued to back up, I noticed there was a group of kids huddled behind one of the bookshelves. One of the girls was Sydney. Scott and I looked at each other, not sure what to do, mostly because as we looked around, we noticed there were a lot of people hiding in the library. The growls just continued, and I could feel the panic set in since it seemed like everywhere I looked, there was just more people. "Go." Scott told them all. They all began to move, but they all didn't really know where they were going.
"Upstairs." I told them, grabbing the nearest student and guiding them to the steps before hurrying back to stand with Scott.
As we stared down the doors, the stomping continued to get louder and louder. I looked to Scott, knowing there was no way we could keep our identity a secret from all these people. When the Beast pushed the door open, Scott and I both did a half shift with our claws, fangs and eyes coming out in front of our peers.
The Beast immediately flung Scott into one of the bookshelves, and then turned its sight on me. "Fuck me." I whispered before its large backhand slapped me into the other side of the room. It then moved its sights to Scott, throwing him next to me. As we both groaned on the ground, trying to sit up, I turned to him, taking ragged breaths. "What's the plan?" Scott turned to look at me, completely silent, making my eyes wide. "You don't have a plan?!"
Scott looked back to the Beast which was slowly advancing to us. "If we both go at him maybe it won't be too bad."
We stood up, gave out a roar and ran to him, but this time, he seemed to knock us down even quicker. "Your plans suck." I coughed out, noticing some blood dripping out of my mouth, and a trickle coming down the front of my head. When I turned back to the Beast, it was on all fours, moving toward us. Scott and I looked at each other, wondering if this was really going to be how we were going to die. We helped each other up and growled as the thing got closer to us. If this was going to take us down, we were at least going down fighting.
That's when we saw Liam jumping up and attacking the Beast from the back. From the initial shock of the hit, the Beast fell to the ground, but got up quickly. That's when we noticed my Mason and Braeden shooting at him. I just stood there dumbfounded, surprised that everyone was putting this together so seamlessly.
Derek circled the Beast and knocked both Scott and me down, so we weren't in the line of bullets. Once I was on the ground, he was on top of me, and all I could do as touch his face and laugh at the fact that he was actually okay.
Braeden and Mason shot the Beast enough times to make it jump out the window. We each sat up, Derek helping me and Liam rushing to help Scott. Braeden, Mason, and Malia hurried toward us, Mason immediately going to me for a hug, but Braeden looked angry. "You didn't seriously think you were gonna have a chance against that thing, did you?"
I moved back to Derek, his arm going to my waist and mine going to his back lazily, still trying to catch my breath and strength. "No." Scott told her while shaking his head, but then he looked off at where the Beast ran. "But I got its scent."
I began to smell the air, its blood still lingering. It was so familiar. It was like it was on the tip of my tongue. Scott ran off first, but I had to follow him. I just had to know who that scent belonged to. I could hear Derek and Liam's footsteps behind me, but my feet just couldn't stop. My nose was just taking me wherever it needed to. "Scott, Bree," I heard Liam call from behind us. "Wait!"
When they finally caught up with us, Derek was the first one to speak. "You're both hurt. You need to slow down."
I just couldn't listen to him, though. We both continued running to the scent, ending up in the parking lot, four rows in, and to the right. We stopped at a black car, finding the scent strongest there. I could smell it all over the car, but Scott could pinpoint it at the trunk. Scott threw the trunk open with all of his might, and I looked inside to see a pair of shoes. I turned to look at Derek, only guessing what was on the sole of it. I was the one to pick it up, and sure enough, there was blood. I looked at each of them, realizing we just needed to find out who owned the car, and from that, we would know who the Beast was.
Scott shut the trunk, and I was about to copy the license plate when Liam's Mason stood right in front of us. I could feel my eye twitch a little from confusion at his presence. He looked at each of us, his face expressing just as much confusion as mine. "What are you doing to my car?"
That one sentence felt like a bullet. I almost felt weaker at that revelation. "It's you." Derek almost whispered. I turned to look at him, noticing he was using his threatening face.
"What?" Mason asked while staring at Derek. That's when I could see something in his face. Not complete innocence, but not complete blame either. "Liam, what is he talking about?"
I could see Derek's claws come out as Mason took another step. "Derek, don't!" I warned.
That's when Corey came out from camouflaging himself, and put his hands on Mason's shoulders. "Corey, wait!" I screamed, hoping he wouldn't do it, but they were both just gone. Scott and Liam tried to run after them, but they were too late.
Derek and I stopped off at the loft, needing to get a few weapons and my grimoire before we went after Mason. Maybe there was something in there that would help us. I wouldn't let the Beast completely take over Mason. "Bree," Derek spoke once I flung the door open. "Maybe we should let you sleep, the Beast tore you up pretty good."
"I'm fine." I waved him off before walking in and going straight to the bed where I had left the grimoire.
That's when I heard a "clang" behind me. When I turned around, Giulietta was standing over Derek's unconscious body. My mouth dropped, not sure what to do. He was still breathing, but still, she definitely had something up her sleeve. "Yeah," she began to move toward me, but all I could do was back up. I was way too weak to do anything. "Perfect condition for me to get what I need."
She pushed me down on the bed, her knees on each of my legs and her hands gripping my wrists. I tried with everything I could to get out of her grip, but I just couldn't. How the hell did she get so strong so quick? She moved her face to my left ear as I just trembled. "You're gonna have to be asleep for this." That's when she took her wrist off of one of my hands, and right when I made a move, she knocked me out.
