PIECES

Previously: Recognition was sparked in his eyes and he grew numb and lifeless when he breathed his surprise. "Izabela?"

I whipped my head around to catch a similar expression on the one now known as 'Izabela'. Only she had another one of her warm genuine smiles and for once, she said something that I did understand. "Niklaus"

Shocked wasn't the right word...

Now I watched her, oblivious to me freaking out as she huddled further in my jacket. I'd given her my jacket not because she was cold but because she looked…out of place.

Here's pot calling the kettle black.

What I meant was even though she didn't care about the stares in the airport, I did. I had a reputation to uphold. Plus, I think the security guards thought I had kidnapped her. Of course I could've compelled them but I had better things to do.

For one, I had a girl back home in denial and a girl here who needed a home.

"You two know each other" I finally asked but paused. Now that I was focused again, I noticed how he creepily kept staring at the girl; like some possession. Maybe this wasn't a good idea. The only reason I brought her here was because of his sister. Blondie googled some of the phrases and found out it was some really old language – dead language to be exact. Who is the oldest in Mystic Falls – no other than Klaus – plus he helped Bonnie translate some of the same language marked on the sword.

Klaus took one step forward, stepping out into the night confidently. "For once, you have proven yourself useful" he mused and continued to peruse over her.

With the way he kept staring at me, it meant that Stefan had won the bet and that the hybrid freak might actually have a heart. Maybe this really wasn't a good idea because we might be able to use this 'Izabela' as leverage.

"How did you find her?" he asked, finally turning to me.

Even though he was looking at me, I didn't miss how his body had been angled towards her. "She was buried. Next to who I can presume is her lover?" I fished for information transparently, gauging his reaction but he didn't react.

"Silas…?" he smiled but it wasn't a confirmation. It gave nothing away.

Before he could go all dreamy over her, I hastily asked, "Who is she?" I demanded, keeping a secure hold on her waist, which didn't go amiss. "I brought her to you so you owe me that"

As soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted them…way to go Salvatore.

Raging eyes turned to me, now blackened with anger. "How about you get out of my property in five seconds and I'll forget about you trapping me in a house and your little girlfriend killing my brother?" he suggested.

Good enough offer.

"Brother?"

We both whipped around to watch as the girl stumbled away from me. At least she wasn't looking at me but instead focused on Klaus. "Brother?" she repeated perfectly and I arched an eyebrow at how she clutched at her chest. "Finn?" she shakily breathed and I narrowed my eyes.

Obviously she knew more than she led on.

When Klaus shook his head, she trailed down her list. "Elijah?"

"Kol" she nodded in understanding and before I could excuse myself, what felt like a gust of wind propelled me off my feet and across the garden. My body crashed onto the grass, rolling down the driveway. When I peeked up wanting to prepare myself for retaliation, I found out it was unnecessary as she collapsed onto the enemy.

Shaking my head, I braced one hand onto the ground and pushed myself to my knees. "Good riddance" I groaned.

When I made a move to leave, my path was blocked. "What happened to you?"

KPOV

"Izabela?"

I brought her down to the sofa and cautiously kneeled beside her. Still peering over her and noticing how her skin had lost it's luscious flush, instead it was ashen. Her lips were no longer a fruitful and seductive pink but slightly chapped and pale. Even her long mahogany locks were lacklustre but thankfully they were still curled.

It didn't matter, she was still the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

One too many times I had tried to capture that beauty with a mere pencil and paper. Soon I learnt that the challenge was unconceivable.

Only now her beauty was tarnished with her sadness. In honest, at the sight of anyone's tears, I grew uncomfortable. It was different with her…it was almost painful…distressing.

"Izabela?" I repeated more firmly. After her falling into me, I knew that she was weak. 1,000 years in a tomb would do that to you. "You need to feed" I whispered but she left her head in her hands. I remembered how she had threaded her life with ours. Of course, she had formed many attachments within the family but never with my father. Izabela had been the only one brave enough to stop him; to strip him from his dignity when stealing his sword and threatening to cut his head if he touched me again; to humiliate him; to scare him.

That alone meant that she had m respect; something I did not give out freely.

Of course, it also made her many enemies and it was because of her caring for me that she ended up entombed. I had searched for her and now to find that the idiot child of a vampire had been the one to find her. He hadn't even had the common sense to feed her.

"Janet!" I yelled and was pleased with her promptness as she appeared before me.

Her hands were folded before her as she traipsed in her black dress. "What do you need?" she asked and I was proud of my training. I knew these hybrids would come in handy.

"Six humans" I demanded, my eyes landing back on Izabela. Before she could leave to do my bidding, I called out again. "Start a fire"

I watched as Izabela pushed away from me. Of course I could have stopped her but it was not my place. I simply watched as she landed on her knees and waved her hands over the fireplace. Instantly, it was set alight with dancing flames; ones that seemed to entrance her.

Even that bit of magic made her weaker as I heard her wheeze under her breath. She tried to cover it with a cough but it was too late. "You need your strength" I sternly insisted. When she remained quiet, I caught how she swayed but I already wrapped an arm around her before she could fall.

Releasing a sigh, she contently rested her head onto my chest. Only her peace was short-lived as sobs racked through her again.

All I could do was sit there. Hold her. And hope that it was enough.

It lasted for only three minutes before she inhaled and slowly looked up to me. Her brown eyes dulled and filled with grief and tears. "The Salvatore" she stammered, her bottom lip quivering. "Kol?" she asked.

"No" I shook my head and she glanced up in vexation. "Elena Gilbert" I confirmed which only confused her further. Without another word, her hand suddenly rested on my cheek. The warmth was strangely familiar yet foreign at the same time. Nonetheless, it was welcome.

A gasp left her trembling lips. "Katherine?" she gritted her teeth from what she had read within my thoughts. The touch was usually unnecessary but she was very fragile and quiet exhausted from the purple circles under her eyes. Stubborn girl.

"Elena is her Doppelganger" I clarified.

Suddenly she sat up and sheepishly wiped at her dampened cheeks. "Where is his body?" she questioned and I wondered what was going through her mind.

"You speak English?!"

We turned to the interrupted that was my, oh so timely sister. She placed her hands on her hips and darkly glared at the one person she trusted most in the world. "Why didn't you say something?" she demanded and I realised she didn't remember. Izabela simply shrugged noncommittally and was met with narrowed eyes, which flashed to me. "How do you know her?" Rebekah screeched and I was suddenly tired.

"We crossed paths" I answered amusedly.

My sister crossed her arms stubbornly and scowled. "I was with you for over 500 years, I never met her"

"She went underneath the pseudonym 'Marie'" I offered, remembering the novels and poetry that buzzed around the towns. There wasn't a country that hadn't heard of the infamous and unknown Marie Bell.

"And you have met me" Izabela added and I wasn't surprised that she was going to bring the secrets into the light again. She never was one for hiding anything though her doe like eyes begged to differ. Her thoughts were safely trapped in her mind and it showed in her guarded gaze.

Our vagueness only frustrated Rebekah further as she took a threatening step towards Izabela. "Why can I not remember you?" she asked menacingly but her apprehension was transparent.

"I needed to go unnoticed" Izabela answered and bravely brought herself up to the seat.

Rebekah was livid now and being the girl she was, I knew it wouldn't be long before she erupted into another one of her tantrums. "You compelled me?" she raged but was only given another shrug. "How dare you?!" she screeched, her hands curling into tightened fists.

"Don't be a hypocrite" Izabela snapped but as always her anger dissipated. "If only you could remember how much fun we used to have" she added wistfully, glancing towards me.

Rebekah's frown slipped and her shoulder slumped as she fell onto the couch opposite her. "Then tell me…" she pleaded in a whisper which made me roll my eyes.

"We have better things to worry about" Izabela decided and turned sharply back to me, causing me to stop filling my glass. "Where is Kol's body?"

"Why?" I worried over the rambling ideas that must've been running through her enigma of a mind.

Fierce determination set in her gaze and her features were fixed tautly. "It isn't over yet" she grated.

"What does that-"

Whatever Rebekah was going to say was cut off when a small frail hand covered her mouth. "Wait!" Izabela hissed.

"What is it?" I whispered and set my drink aside, recognising the panic in her eyes. I knew what troubled her before she had the chance to say it.

"Silas"
