This is it, the finale. I actually got really sad when writing this chapter. This is my second most popular fanfic, and I've made so many new friends due to this fanfic. Thank you to everyone who followed and added it to their favourites list. It makes me feel so special: So thank you all.
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

"I don't want to go!"

Rin held on to my hand, tears welling up in her eyes. She tightened her grasp on my hand and pouted as I looked down at her. "I want to stay with you!"

"Rin," I began, kneeling down to her height. "You have to go. You need to know how to live around other humans."

"I don't need other humans!" She pouted, crossing her arms over her chest. "I have you and Master Jaken, and I don't need anyone else!" Her stubbornness was very aggravating, but I could see why she was so sad. I'd always looked after her. I'd always been the one to care to her every need, to make sure she was safe.

Part of me wanted to hold on to her, to keep her here with me. Kaede didn't understand anything about her. She didn't know that Rin liked to fall asleep before the fire died out, or that Rin hated getting her face wet. She didn't know that Rin still had nightmares about her family's slaughter and the only way to calm her down was to hold her in your arms.

I knew everything about her. I knew that she liked to ride on Ah-Un so that she could spot enemies from a distance. I knew that when she rubbed her right eye with her left hand, she was getting tired.

I also knew that she'd be better off with the humans. They could take care of her properly. She would be much safer with the humans than she ever would be with Jaken and I.

"Rin," I said, brushing her hair out of her face. "When you're eighteen years old, you can make your decision about whether you will stay with Kaede, or return to me. I promise, on your eighteenth birthday, I will return for you."

Rin smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck. I held her one last time. I wished we could stay like this forever, but Kaede had to return.

Putting Rin down, I watched as Kaede reached for her hand. Rin gently took hold of Kaede's hand, and within minutes, she was walking away with Kaede. She stopped in her tracks and turned to face me with a cheery smile on her face.

"Goodbye, Lord Sesshomaru!" She turned to look up at Kaede, and smiled at her. I could hear her try and lighten the situation, "Hello Lady Kaede!"

I chuckled as I watched her leave.

Goodbye...

After years of travelling, I found myself in Kaede's village. Jaken was still following me, and he was just as excited as I was for the upcoming decision. The time had come for Rin to decide to stay with Kaede or return to me.

As I walked into the hut, I mentally prepared myself for her answer. Rin had been adamant that she would return to me, but after six years with the villagers, she may have decided to stay with them. I smiled as I saw her; my Rin. She returned the smile, and I welled up with pride.

When Kaede asked her she wished to go with, Rin smirked. I chuckled, knowing that when Rin smirked, something amusing was going to happen.

She looked up Kaede with a cheery smile on her face, "Goodbye Lady Kaede." She turned to look at me, and I chuckled as I knew what she was going to say.

"Hello, Lord Sesshomaru."

And that's it! I hope you all enjoyed the fanfic. Thank you so much to everyone who reviewed, followed and added it to their favourite list. This fanfic wouldn't have gotten past chapter three if it wasn't for your kind words!
