I've edited chapter one. I'll get to the other two chapters later. For now I thought I would update instead. It's been a while, sorry about that.
It's Odd we Meet Here
It's been a week since my surgery has passed and although my body is stiff, I have still gone to Lyoko three times since the surgery. The good news is that Jeremie is getting a better understanding of Lyoko. We figured out that for some odd reason only Aelita can deactivate the towers with the touch of her hand. Jeremie tried to explain to me all of the details, but I only understood that he could deactivate towers by imputing a long code. Having Aelita deactivate a tower is quicker.
Jeremie thinks it has to do with Franz Hoper. He believes Franz gave his daughter Aelita the key to Lyoko in case anything happened to him. I just wish he could have given his daughter better fighting abilities so she could protect herself more easily. If it is such an important key it should be heavily protected.
Don't get me wrong though, Aelita is a nice girl and Jeremie says that the key uses so much code that it is understandable that there isn't enough room for her to have any skills beyond some self-defense. She can create strong barriers against the monsters, but she has to have enough time to create them or the monsters will kill her. Creating barriers for the monsters usually takes too long.
As for some good news, I've only got one thing. My lessons with Cal have been postponed until I'm adequately healed. Thanks to this I finally got to learn where my bedroom is located. Bad news is that tomorrow lessons will start up again. I'm almost completely healed.
I pull myself up out of bed and remake it before changing into a clean pair of clothes. I probably will not see this bed again for a while. Goodbye bedroom and hello again infirmary bed.
"Hello Jeremie. Is there anything I can do to help you out?" I ask as I strolled into the supercomputer room.
"Yes actually, I was just informed of a new recruit the military have found. I was hoping that after I get his measurements and compatibility with Lyoko that you could help him get used to the virtual world. Maybe you can show him around the base. He's rooming with you, so it would be great if the two of you got along." Jeremie says looking up from the computer.
"Okay." I say.
"Oh and Ulrich," Jeremie starts, "have a good day."
It is funny the last time I had a good day was so very long ago. It was a soccer game I lead my team to victory and my father had messed up my hair with his hand. It was one of the few times he hugged me. The day after that one was awful though.
"I'm here to look after the new member." I inform the guard.
"Yes, so I have been informed. No funny business Ulrich." The guard says sternly before stepping aside.
"Oh hello! Who may you be?" A boy with blonde hair jelled up into a spike and some purple in the middle greets.
"I'm Ulrih." I answer.
"Nice to meet you Ulrich, I'm Odd Della Robia!" He cheerfully introduces with a wide smile and sticks out his hand.
I shake it.
"So how did you get stuck here?" I asked.
"It was an accident. I was at the skate park when a blobby pitch black monster attacked me. Before I know it, a guy named Marc was on the scene and somehow made the monster go away. He asked if I was interested in joining this school program and I agreed. I wanted to see if my parents would get mad at me for wanting to go, but I was wrong they still didn't care." Odd hums as if he has no worries in the world.
"You signed yourself up to go to a strange program with a suspicious military guy?" My eyebrows rise up at the ridiculousness of Odd's story.
"I wanted my parents to actually pay attention to me. I guess even joining this suspicious school program still wasn't enough to make them worry about me." Odd smiles sadly.
"I'll show you to your room." I say hoping to distract him from his thoughts.
I walk without looking back to see if he is following me. I know he'll follow me. He's the type of person who can't stop talking when he's excited.
"So what exactly do you do here? I'm just finding it hard to believe that there are students in a military base just being tutored and studying." Odd hypothesizes.
"Oh, you'll study. Studying happens when there is no blobby, black monster to interrupt. You'll find out that physical education is entirely based around fighting with a weapon. We were brought here to help fight an AI from taking over France." I inform him.
I wish someone had told me that before I was just thrown into the middle of it. Odd came along with Marc willingly. It's probably better Odd doesn't understand how serious the situation is.
"I tried punching that blob monster. It doesn't work. How are we supposed to fight something like that?" Odd questions.
"We virtualize." I state.
"Well this is your room. You'll be rooming with me." I say before he could ask me what I meant.
"This is awesome! I think there's enough room for hiding you Kiwi!" Odd grins.
"Kiwi?" I ask my eyes growing wide with shock at the sight of an ugly dog being pulled out of a suitcase.
"What? You didn't think I was going to leave my dog behind did you? Kiwi is the most awesome dog in the world." Odd says defensively.
"This is a military base. How in the world did you sneak in your dog?" I ask with disbelief.
"Simple I told them that I had a dog in my bag, and they thought I was telling a joke. I told an actual joke and they laughed. They probably just relaxed and forgot to check." Odd laughs.
He drops his luggage beside his bed and sprawls out on his stomach.
"You can't keep this a secret from the military. He needs to be allowed outside to use the bathroom and the military isn't stashing any dog food from what I can tell." I frown.
"It'll be fine. I promise I will take good care of Kiwi." Odd sings sweetly, as if that will make the risk disappear.
"Come on I'll show you where the kitchen, infirmary, and the supercomputer is." I say.
I briefly show him the way to all of the places then lead him to the check-up/exam room is. I knock on the door and Jeremie answers it with a smile.
"I see you've brought the new recruit." Jeremie states.
"Jeremie this is Odd. Odd this is Jeremie." I carelessly introduce. "I should get going. I've got some homework to finish up."
"You don't have to leave!" Jeremie offers.
"Thanks for the offer, but I really do need to finish my homework." I state.
Sitting on top of my bed, I stare at the book in front of me looking for the answers to the questions at the end of the chapter. I sigh and flip the page over. I scribble an answer down and continue to search for the others. Once I've finished my history homework I toss the book under my bed and stare up at the ceiling.
I've been here for a week and a half and still haven't been given an opportunity to go outside. I haven't been able to find any windows. I wonder what it will take for Cal to let me go outside. Probably, something I don't want to give. Maybe if I start to get straight A's in my classes he'll consider how serious I am. I've been skating by with C's in all of my classes. It's actually an improvement.
I reach down underneath the bed in search of my math textbook when the lights start to flicker. I look up to find the black static leaking out of the lightbulb. It has to be Xana! I run out of my room and shut the door, hoping to buy myself some time to warn the others.
I find Marc on my way to Jeremie and Odd.
"Marc, Xana is attacking! He appeared within my room. Alert the others." I shout as a zoom past him.
I bang on the door to the exam room shouting. "Jeremie, Xana is attacking! We have to go!"
"Come on Odd we'll need your help." Jeremie says and tugs Odd along with him as we run to the supercomputer.
"Who's Xana?" Odd asks as his voice quivers from exhaustion.
"Xana's an AI. He's an intelligent computer virus trying to take down France's government. Franz Hoper invented him to protect France's government but something went wrong. It's our job to shut down Xana's power source." Jeremie quickly exclaims heaving.
"A tower, right?" I try to confirm.
"Indeed." Jeremie replies. "Take Odd with you to the scanners room Ulrich."
"What's going on?" Odd asks as he follows me to the elevator.
"Do you like video games Odd?" I ask.
"I love them!" Odd smirks. "I'm the master of video games!"
"Well we're about to enter one except this game isn't really a game. Our lives and the lives of the citizens of France are at stake. Don't be needlessly reckless." I advise.
The elevator opens up and I walk into one of the scanners. Odd stares at a scanner before stepping inside as well. The doors start to close and a rush of strong wind makes me close my eyes and wait.
I open my eyes and land on the ground with one leg on the ground and my other leg bent at the knee. I push myself up and turn around to find Odd fall on his face. He's a purple cat. I sigh and head over to him, with a quick tug he is standing on his own two feet.
"Jeremie is Aelita nearby?" I ask.
"She's in the forest section. She's hiding out in the tower closest to the activated one." Jeremie answers.
"Great, I'll go get her. Can you explain to Odd the basics of what he needs to do and what to avoid?" I ask.
"Alright Odd, the first thing you need to know is to not fall into the digital sea—" Jeremie starts to explain.
I don't hear the rest of the explanation as I dash away and focus on reaching the tower. It should be safe since we aren't near the activated tower, but it never hurts to be cautious. I easily make it to the tower and knock on the base of it.
"Aelita, it is Ulrich!" I shout.
A moment later she steps out of the tower.
"Ulrich let's go and deactivate that tower." Aelita says.
"That's why I'm here. We've got a new member to join us today. I'll introduce you to him princess." I reply.
I pick her up in my arms and super sprint until I spot Odd. I place Aelita down and watch as an arrow shoots out from Odd's paw.
"Odd this is Aelita. She's the only one who can deactivate the tower so it is our duty to protect her and make sure she can get to the tower. Aelita this is Odd he's a purple cat." I chuckle.
"Hey! I'll have you know that I'm an extraordinary purple cat!" Odd exclaims.
He accidentally shoots an arrow out of his paw toward me and with a quick sheathing of my sword I deflect the arrow.
"Don't attack your teammates Odd!" Jeremie exclaims.
"Sorry I didn't do that on purpose!" Odd explains sheepishly rubbing his head.
"Let's get going we don't have any time to waste. Xana is attacking the real world." Jeremie reminds us.
Jeremie and Aelita lead us to the path that heads toward the activated tower. I keep close to Aelita and Odd follows suit.
"Hey I can see the tower." Odd points out.
"Your almost there, so you should be encountering Xana's monsters right about now." Jeremie says.
"You don't see any sign of them yet Jeremie?" Aelita asks.
"Not yet." Jeremie replies. "Wait! There behind you are five Kankrelats!"
A red laser shot heads toward Aelita, but Odd tugs her out of the way. He points his paw at one and shouts laser arrow. It hits the Kankrelat and it explodes.
"Look at how awesome I am!" Odd cheers only to be hit by a laser beam.
"You can't get distracted Odd. There is no time to celebrate until Aelita makes it into the tower!" Jeremie lectures.
I unsheathe my sword and deflect a few laser beams. It would be easier to kill them if they weren't so small. I race toward the monsters and manage to take out two more before taking a hit to the shoulder.
"We've only got one left, but I'm sure there will be more up ahead when we reach the tower." I report.
"Don't worry I can take the last one down!" Odd says firing two laser arrows.
Both miss the target. I tug Odd out of the way of a laser beam and shove him forward along with Aelita.
"Run!" I demand.
We dodge laser beams until we reach a fork in the path. I take another hit as soon as we stopped to figure out which path to take.
"Jeremie we have a problem! There are two paths in front of us and both show activated towers!" Aelita informs him.
"Laser arrow!" Odd shouts successfully managing to hit the last Kankrelot.
"Xana must have created an illusion! Hold on let me read the map. Take the path on the left." Jeremie tells us.
"I'll go first. Odd you take the rear. Aelita stay a good distance behind me." I order.
I carefully take a step onto the path that Jeremie suggested, and I am glad I don't immediately fall through the ground. I run forward with the other two following me from behind. Once I reach the clearing I spot three Krabs along with two Blocks blocking our way to the tower.
"Odd protect Aelita and keep your distance! I'm going to take out as many of these monsters as I can. Aelita create a shield." I order.
"You can't defeat all of them by yourself Ulrich!" Jeremie exclaims.
"I know, but Odd can't take down any of these monsters with this many of them waiting for us. He has to take aim and then he's left open and vulnerable. He hasn't even received any training yet. I'll take out as many as I can." I argue.
"Be careful if you take another hit you'll be devirtualized!" Jeremie warns me.
"Super sprint!"
I hop onto a block and stab my sword through its body. I hop off before it explodes and dodge a laser beams from the Krabs. I slide underneath one of the Krabs and slice my sword through its stomach. It teeters and attempts to shoot me one last time before it disappears. The remaining Block shoots fire at me. I slice the leg of another Krab and its body falls forward protecting me from the attack the Block sent at me. I jump on top of the Krab and stab my sword into the eye. The Krab disappears.
A laser beam hits me in the middle of my back sending me flying to the ground. I grab my sword and toss it at the Block as I start to devirtualize. I watch as the Block takes some damage, but I know it's not enough to destroy it.
I open my eyes and lean forward onto the frame of the scanner. I hoe Odd can get past the two monsters left. I can't believe I left an opening for the last Krab to attack and take me out. I take a moment to gather up some strength then head inside the elevator. I need to help fight Xana in this world until Aelita deactivates the tower. I arrive to the top and step out to find Jeremie unharmed.
"Where's Xana?" I ask.
"I don't know. He isn't interested in us. It seems he quickly made his escape out of the facility. Marc is pursuing after him." Jeremie answers.
"How are Odd and Aelita holding up?"
"Take a look at the screen. The triangle is the monster and the other two points are Odd and Aelita." Jeremie explains.
As soon as Ulrich was devirtualized, I use the distraction to shoot the injured Block right in the eye and watch as it explodes into pieces.
"Nice job Odd!" Aelita tells me.
"A few monsters aren't enough to take me down." I grin.
This is the best video game I've ever played. I can feel the adrenaline rush through my body. I turn back to Aelita and notice a pink ball of energy is forming in her hand. She tosses it at the Krab but the Krab moves out of the way in time then shoots a laser at her.
"Aelita!" I shout as I jump in front of her.
I'm hit and fly backwards toppling Aelita to the ground underneath me. I grab her and roll away in time to avoid another attack.
"Aelita head to the tower, I'll keep this guy here busy!" I shout as I jump on top of the Krab and dig my claws into it forcing it to shoot a laser up uselessly at the sky.
She nods her head and runs to the tower. The Krab is stumbling and trying to swing me off of it so it can chase after her. I have Jeremie reload my arrows and shoot straight at the middle of the Krab's head. The arrow is a little off and the monster survives the attack. It sends me flying to the ground and stabs me with one of its legs.
I watch as Aelita makes it safely into the tower and devirtualize.
Students are screaming and crying for their lives all around me. A younger student is being electrocuted by a monster that looks like the physical education teacher, Jim. I pick up my lunch tray and bang it against the imposters head. Millie is dropped to the ground, and I grab her. I pull her away from the Jim look alike.
"Yumi look out!" Sisi screams.
I turn around, but it's too late. The fake Jim pulls at my black hair and wraps an arm around my stomach. A pulse of energy zaps through my body. I can't handle the pain and scream. I fling my hands back and shove my palm up straight into his nose.
His body fizzles out as if it is no longer solid, and I drop to the ground. He quickly becomes solid and charges a scary ball of energy. I scoot away as quickly as I can and close my eyes waiting for impact. The military burst into the cafeteria and surprise the students and the school staff.
A soldier grabs hold of me and runs out of the building, the monster following after us.
"I've got a hold of the student Xana was after, but the whole school was attacked. We'll need to do a return to the past Cal! We can grab hold of her later." The solider says into a headpiece.
"Jeremie has notified me that the tower is about to be deactivated. I shall let him know about the return to the past." A voice came through the earpiece.
"What's your name young lady?" The solider asks me.
"Yumi is my name. What's going on?" I ask.
"You'll find out soon enough." He replies.
Before I can ask him what he means a bright light envelopes the whole surrounding.
Well I hope you liked it. We got a glance at Yumi a chapter early. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for reading.
