"Um, you haven't said anything for like, two years," Jerry said, although it had been more like two minutes.
"I was thinking. I'm going to call Kim and just see what happens."
Jack found her name in his contacts and pressed the phone button. A nervous silence filled the room as the two boys waited for the ringing to be interrupted with Kim's voice.
"H-hello? Jack?" Kim answered in a whisper.
"Kim! Are you okay? Are you in the library?"
"Yes… I'm hiding in this, uh, castle thing in the kids' section. He can't see me. Please come help."
Suddenly a loud voice could be heard in the background.
"Who's on their cell phone? I hear you! You better —" the phone beeped as Kim rushed to hang up with Jack.
Jack turned to Jerry, who was eating a slice of pizza from a delivery box.
"Where did you — oh my god, Jerry, I have an idea!" Jack said as his eyes glanced toward the television. The ticker at the bottom read, "Seaford Gunman Requests Pizza From Hostage Negotiators…"
"What is it?" Jerry asked with his mouth full.
"Well, there's police surrounding the library. They're not going to let just anyone in. But if I show up and say I'm the pizza delivery guy, I can get up close to the shooter and use some karate moves to take him down."
If Jerry could've just persuaded Jack to stay there and make out with him, he would've done it. It's not that he wanted anything bad to happen to Kim, per se, but he wasn't willing to risk his own safety or Jack's on her behalf. But Jack was in "problem solver" mode and there was nothing that could be done to change that. So reluctantly, Jerry went along with him.
They were speeding in Jerry's car when Jack placed his hand on top of his friend's.
"I want you to know… I didn't forget. I didn't forget what we were about to do, or what you mean to me. An emergency got in the way. That's all," the black belt said softly.
"Thanks, Jack," Jerry said as the library and all the flashing police lights came into view, "now let's go kick some ass!"
Jack took Jerry's pizza box from the backseat and the two boys headed toward the crime scene. The police chief stopped them at the yellow do-not-cross tape boundary.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"Uh, I'm from Seaford Slice, someone ordered a large pepperoni?" Jack said, effecting the voice of an apathetic pizza car driver.
The police chief sighed. "Twenty people in there, and he ordered one pie? This guy's dumber than we thought," he said, mostly to himself, then noticed Jerry.
"Why are there two of you? Does it take two people to deliver a single pizza?"
Jack was caught off guard and had to think fast.
"Umm… yeah… it's the, uh, pizza buddy system. Too many of us have been getting robbed lately."
The chief nodded and the teens made their way through the gauntlet of police and media to the door of the library.
Jack knocked on the glass door. He could see the figure of the would-be shooter, pacing back and forth. He recognized him but wasn't sure why.
"Oh my god, Jack, it's Frank? Wow, we sure got lucky," Jerry said, with a satisfied smirk.
"Frank?" Jack said, unable to remember.
"You know, the total doofus from the Black Dragons? The only one who had to take 7th grade history more times than I did? Has a big thing for Kim…"
"Well, no matter how dumb this loser is, he's still got a gun. Tread carefully," Jack said, as Frank approached the door.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Jack Brewer," he said, "delivering pizzas. Guess those good looks and super cool moves can't pay the bills."
Whamp! Jack kicked Frank right in his privates. The older boy fell to the floor, writhing in pain as his gun slipped from his hand. He managed to grab onto Jack's shin and, with a painful thud, the skater was pulled down into the library. As the two grappled with Jack trying to prevent Frank from crawling toward where the gun had landed and retrieving his weapon, Jerry appeared.
"You probably shouldn't have done that!" he said to Frank, borrowing Jack's line as he picked up the gun. "Now… get off my friend right now!" he ordered, relishing his new found power.
"Do jumping jacks!" he commanded. Jack got on his feet as Frank was being forced to do the exercise.
"It's - it's all over! You're all safe now!" he yelled to the people trapped in the library, gesturing for the police to enter.
The authorities swarmed in and put Frank in handcuffs, and took the weapon.
Jack rushed to embrace Jerry. It felt so good when the boys' arms were wrapped around each other.
"You kind of liked bossing him around, didn't you?" Jack said in a flirty tone.
"Yeah I did," Jerry replied feeling his cock spring to life.
"Maybe you can tell me what to do sometime," Jack whispered, his lips pressing against Jerry's ear. It was inappropriate, surrounded by cops in the middle of the library, but all Jack could think about was getting his tongue inside Jerry's mouth. There was something about his act of courage that made him irresistible. He got a whiff of the Latino boy's scent…
Jerry was unable to stop Jack from kissing him, not that he would want to. The hostages burst into applause as their heroes shared a romantic moment. Jerry's hands slid down the other boy's side and then cupped his ass. He would've taken him right there if it weren't for a girl loudly clearing her throat.
"Ah-hem."
Kim couldn't believe what she was seeing. Weren't the 48 hours up, and her friend was supposed to turn back into the straight heartthrob she'd always known?
Jack broke the kiss and turned to her.
"Oh… um…" he began.
"No, it's fine. Totally fine! Thanks for saving me. I better be getting home now, my parents are probably really worried… so yeah… catch you later!" she said, trying to mask her disappointment.
"Actually, we need to get a statement from you," an officer who overheard the conversation said.
"What about us?" Jerry asked.
"Oh, we've got a lot of people to interview tonight, can we get your information and contact you in the morning?"
"Sure."
The boys were ready to leave the scene when Jack noticed the local news camera crew was filming. He ran over to them.
"Hey, did you get everything on tape?" Jack asked the cameraman.
"Sure did. It was live, too," he replied.
"You mean, you even got—"
"The ass grab? Oh yeah!" the cameraman said with obvious pleasure.
Jerry had just caught up to Jack as the conversation was wrapping up.
"What was that about?" He asked.
"Jerry, everyone in Seaford just watched us make out on television," he said, "and they also saw you grab my ass…"
Jerry gulped as the meaning of it all sank in.
