"NIGHTWING!" Starfire yelled as she barreled down the halls. Hearing her voice, he poked his ebony locks out of the dining room where he was and saw the face of an orange-skinned, fiery headed madwoman racing towards him. 'Uh oh, what'd I do this time?'
"You...why did you tell Cyborg we were getting back together?!"
"Because we are, I mean, that was the feeling I got anyway."
"Please tell me where you got the feeling of us getting back together. Was it in between the part when I told you that was not going to happen and how that was NOT GOING TO HAPPEN?!"
"I mean, you didn't say it in words, it was more what you didn't say..." he kicked himself mentally, because that sounded really dumb even as he said it.
"What does that even mean?!"
"It means...I jumped the gun. Still I thought I made a pretty convincing argument on why we should."
"My argument on why we should not and were not was even MORE convincing, so much so that I believed it. Why didn't you? This is exactly what I meant, if it's not something you want to hear you disregard it and make something else up. You are still the same immature..."
"Immature? You do realize you're chasing after Beast Boy right, the kid who once tried to fart the alphabet?"
"Nightwing!"
"Don't get me wrong, I care about him and all and want him back and everything, but seriously, Star. When you first told me you had feelings for him, I know it was just to get under my skin, but the joke's worn off. What does he have that I don't have?"
Starfire stepped back as if she'd been struck. She was looking at the man before her and wondered what she ever saw in him to begin with.
"Robin..."
"It's Nightwing!"
"I am speaking to Robin now. Because apparently, Robin never found out how to gauge self-worth without the approval of others. Robin has to be the toughest, the smartest, the best at everything and if he's not he falls to pieces. Robin only fights this hard for something or someone when he can't have them. Robin doesn't take anyone else's feelings into consideration until everyone deserts him. And because of that, Nightwing will end up alone living in the shadow of his former leader, because that's the only way he can function. Nightwing doesn't know how to love himself, so he can not truly love another. And NIGHTWING," she said edge closer and closer to the masked man. "...will have to learn on his own." She then made a sharp turn and began to walk off.
"Starfire, wait! I...that's not...I didn't..." He couldn't think of anything to refute her words, to rectify the situation, to stop her from walking away for what seemed the final time. So he dropped to his knees and watched her walk away.
One more week passed, and the Titans West were down two members. There was still no trace of Beast to be found, and their leader, Nightwing, was gone without a word. However, it was clear to the other members that his departure was of his own volition, so they decided to put all of their energy into finding their green member and dealing with Nightwing later.
"I've searched countless dimensions," Raven huffed into her morning tea. "I can't even come close to locating their energies."
"I've got every country that's an ally of the U.S.'s main databases scrounging for any information that could point us in any direction, but I'm coming up empty. Both of his communicators are off-line and have been for quite sometime now, and I can't even track them with satellites."
"We are dealing with a formidable hide and seek opponent," Starfire mused. She missed the odd looks her teammates gave her for that remark and they continued their breakfast. Suddenly, the cup she was drinking from fell to the ground and shattered. "Raven..." she softly spoke.
"What's wrong?!" "What's going on?" the other two questioned.
"Raven, what if...instead of searching for their energies...you searched for yours?"
"What? Why would I search for..." The realization dawned on the half-demon girl and she sprinted to the middle of the room and took her meditation poses, preparing to leave her body and mentally search for traces of her own energy signature.
"Wait I don't get it..." Cyborg mumbled. "What's happening?"
"When we last encountered Marky, he absorbed a blast of Raven's energy under Lord Umbrus' orders. Raven can't track him because she can't sense his energy..."
"...but if she can sense hers, we'll find him! All right!" He pat the vermillion haired girl on the back. "Way to go, Star."
Forty minutes passed and Raven's hypnotic trance was broken and she returned to herself. "I think I found him. The signal was faint but it was there. I can transport us there, but who knows what we'll be heading into?"
"Who cares?! Let's go get our buddy back!"
"I agree, let us make haste. He is waiting for us."
Raven nodded and instructed her friends to hold on to her cloak and to not let go until she said it was safe.
"AZARATH METRION ZYNTHOS!" she shouted and a dark mist covered the trio and in a flash, they were gone.
They emerged into a realm the was shrouded in a dark and eerie mist. Two bright full moons were the only lights in the sky and served as beacons for the trio.
"What is this place?" Cyborg asked.
"The name my people gave this place is pretty difficult to pronounce, but it translates to the 'Realm of Bliss'."
"Oh yeah, I'm really feeling the love right now." Cyborg replied taking in the dreary scenery around him, as much as he could anyway. It was a barren wasteland. A sea of dark mists covering murky swampland.
"It's not supposed to be this way, this must be Umbrus' design. Come on, the energy I sensed is a bit stronger, I can lead us to him."
She and Starfire began to hover forward. Meanwhile, Cyborg was having a bit of trouble. His feet kept getting stuck in the ground around him. "Uh...a little help here?" Raven summoned a black energy disk for him to ride on and the three were off.
Their journey led them to an enormous castle. It seemed to be the only building in the area. "All right, I think he's on the...fourth floor. I've been trying to reach him mentally, but I haven't been able to get through, the barriers on this place are top notch."
"I say we go up there, but the wall down, grab him and run."
"We must avoid attracting Umbrus' attention. He and his minions easily overpowered us last time." Starfire responded.
"Besides, he'll just follow us back and start this whole thing again. No, this ends now. We just have to figure out how." Raven added. "But first, we get in there and get what we came for."
"That's what I'm talkin' about!" Cyborg whooped in a hushed manner. He loaded his cannon and the three headed towards the building. As they approached, they heard shouting and muttering.
"Why is my technique not working? Every time I take over his mind, he breaks if not too long after! I can't start my conquest until he's fully subdued. I would pick the stubborn one." They heard the voice of Lord Umbrus cry out. "This should be the last time, I've put a lot more power behind this one. Prepare the men, we'll begin our assault soon." he barked at the nearest minion, who saluted and vanished into the shadows.
'We'd better hurry.' Raven projected into their minds. They made their way up to the room where Beast was being held. They looked into the window and saw him chained against the wall. There were wounds and scars littering his body, his head was resting on his chest and he was very shallowly breathing.
Raven took a deep breath and began waving her hands, as she did a portal opened up against the wall and the three made their way inside. They rushed over and began to gently shake their friend, trying to wake him. Nothing was working. Cyborg made quick work of the chains and picked him up. He'd lost some weight and was much to easy to pick up, but the sooner they got him out of there, the sooner they could fix that.
They continued to try to rouse him but nothing worked. Suddenly, the door to the cell opened and Lord Umbrus himself walked in.
"What?! What are YOU doing here?!"
"Just here to pick someone up, we'll be out of your hair as soon as..." Cyborg began.
"Slave. Awaken." Umbrus muttered. Beast's eye flew open and were still the deep black they were before. "Intruders. Attack!"
The prisoner leapt from his rescuer's arms and slipped into a battle pose. He then began his assault. His movements were slower than normal, making dodging his attacks a bit easier.
"Beast! Friend Marky! It is us! Please to be snapping out of it!" Starfire yelled.
The attacks kept coming. His movements were stilted and you could tell he was in a considerable amount of pain. In the chaos, Umbrus summoned his minions to assist in dealing with the Titans. The real battle begun. Starbolts and Sonic Beams flew in all directions, while Raven flew around the cramped cell avoiding getting caught and targeting Umbrus himself. Any time anyone would get close to him, Beast would stop them. He kept absorbing their attacks and sending them back at them.
They kept yelling for Beast to come to his senses; to come back to them, but their pleas fell on dear ears. Or so they thought.
'Be...t! ...arky!'
"Huh? Is someone there? Are you...are you calling me?"
'Wa..e ..p! It's...! Y... ..otta.. s..!'
"Why do you sound so far away? Wh-Who are you? Where am I? I can't.. I can't see anything..."
'...ove...u.. Pl...e...op!'
"I-I don't...what's going on? Someone, someone help me! I don't want to be alone. I need...I need...
"...I'm proud to call you my son." "POPS!"
"...will keep my little brother around..." "CY!"
"Señor Beast Boy!" "Te extrañamos mucho!" "MAS...MENOS"
"...why would I not date someone like you?" "...what if I saw you as more?" "Star...Rae...you guys! Please, find me! Help me! I need you!"
'...I need you!' Raven heard a fragment of a thought pass through her mind. She recognized that voice. "Starfire!" she yelled over the commotion. "Follow me!"
The Tamaranian girl nodded and followed Azarian girl's lead. They flew directly towards the boy loved.
"On the count of three, grab him."
"One..." Raven started.
"Two..."
"THREE!" they shouted in unison and grabbed on to Beast as he was mid punch. His wounds were giving him trouble because he winced and froze in place despite himself.
"I don't know if you can hear us, but we're here. Raven..."
"...and Starfire. Friend Cyborg is here too!"
"We came all this way to get you, now stop this and come back with us! Come back to us..."
"We need you, Marky. You're our heart."
Beast began to struggle in their arms but they just held on tighter. His wounds and malnourishment hindering his movements greatly.
"Please...come back..."
The minions began to attack the girls, but their grips never faltered. They'd finally found him, finally had the chance to bring him home, they weren't giving that up, not for the world.
"Beast...I love you." Raven said, kissing his right temple.
"Marky, I love you." Starfire followed suit and kissed his left. Suddenly all of his movements stopped and he went limp in their arms.
Meanwhile, Cyborg had made his way over to Lord Umbrus and began to take the villain on alone. The ebony clad man was surprisingly put up a good fight, but Cyborg was angry.
You messed with my family...NO ONE messes with my family!" He yelled and slammed Umbrus into the floor, or he would have had the man not vanished into shadows. With him, his minions did the same. Suddenly, the building around them began to collapse. Cyborg ran over to the girls yelling, "we need to get out of here..NOW!"
"You're not going...ANYWHERE!"Umbrus shouted in a very loud, irate tone. The building they were in suddenly became wisps of black smoke that converge and a pair of bright yellow eyes were seen at the center of the smoke. A serpentine beast, as black as the deep vacuum of space and seemingly almost as large took form before them. Cyborg began to fire at the beast but he wasn't making a dent.
"You will not...esssscape here...ALIVE! Your world and countlessssss othersss WILL BE MINE! Your fate is SSSEALED!" He then began to strike at the Titans who were flying out of harm's way.
As they made their escape, a pair of deep green eyes fluttered open and looked up to find two very worried faces peering down at him and lighting up with joy once they'd realized he was awake. The next thing that registered was the immense amount of pain he was in, which was exacerbated a bit by the two girl wrapping him into a fierce hug.
"Ack! Ok! Ok! Please stop...it hurts." Once they got the message they loosened their grip...slightly.
"What is THAT?!" He cried out at the giant black cobra attacking them.
"We can explain later but that needs to be defeated and our blasts aren't making a dent." Raven yelled.
"We need your powers, are you all right to fight?"
"Just tell me what ya need!" he winked. They explained the plan, which was simple enough and he shakily stood on the platform Raven created and jumped up transforming into the massive bird.
"I'd like to be really witty right now, or say something cool, but I don't know what or who you are. I just know you're trying to hurt the people I care about...sooo that can't happen." His voice rang out.
Starfire flew to his right side and began to fire her Starbolts at him. Cyborg pointed both of his arms at him and fired his cannons at full force.
"AZARATH METRION ZYNTHOS!" A huge black burst of energy came from his left side. They energies swirled around him and he absorbed them and the flames appeared on his crest, wings and tail.
"Later, dude! It's been real." He said and fired all of his energy at the snake.
"NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!" Umbrus cried as he was vaporized. Once the attack had finished, Beast fell unconscious and began to free fall only to be swooped onto the shoulders of his ladies. Raven made a portal and the quartet finally went home.
Two weeks passed and Beast finally awoke from his recharge session. He woke to find his father, the members of Titans East, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire all around his bed. He decided that it was a very nice way to wake up.
"Hey guys, what's the occasion?"
He was then attacked by his loved ones and they were very lucky that his wounds had already healed, otherwise, he'd have passed out again. They told him about what happened and filled him in on what he didn't remember. There were flashes of moments he'd recall of being in Umbrus' lair and trying to escape, but he'd never get very far.
He described to them what it was like to be under the trance. "It was just me in a room of darkness, no light anywhere, the only sound was my voice and I wasn't sure who I was, let alone where I was. Every now and again, I would hear faint traces of someone speaking. Towards the end, I had lots of flashbacks to you guys and...it helped me realize just how lucky I am to have you guys. Not that I was unsure before, but you get it."
"Yeah...we get it. We feel the same way, ya li'l booger." Cyborg said ruffling that green hair he'd missed so much.
Suddenly, Starfire cleared her throat. "If you all with be excusing us. Raven, Marky and I have something that we must discuss and would like some privacy."
Marky's face dropped. Here it was the moment he'd dreaded for so long. They were going to demand he make a choice. He knows he should, it's only fair to them, but he realizes he can't. Starfire was there for him when no one else was, always sweet, kind, and caring. Raven has been there in her own way, sure they've had some arguments, but he knows that Raven's always got his back, no matter what. He's had crushes on them both for so long and the idea of choosing one over the other...he didn't have what it took, he felt. So he was going to do the best thing for everyone. He was going to tell them both no and hope they found someone better down the line.
The room cleared and it was just the three of them. "Friend Marky, we were wondering if you had given any more thought into us...relationship-wise."
He gulped and his eyes went between both of them. Both so beautiful. "I have and let me start off by saying that I maintain that you both could do better."
"Well, we wanna run something by you, before you say anything else. While you were gone, each time, we both missed you like crazy and we both realized that we don't want to live without you in our lives."
"Yes, and we have also realized that we care for each other as not only best friends, but sisters. And while we desire a relationship with you, we do not wish for our friendship to suffer because of it."
"I get it," Beast interrupted. "You both decided to find someone else. It's ok, I..."
"Garfield," Raven shushed him.
"Yeah?"
"Stop talking." She finished.
"We have agreed to try, if you were willing, to have you date us both."
"W-what? You're joking?"
"Nope, consider it your lucky day, squirt."
"But I cant do that, I mean, that would be taking advantage..."
"No one is being taken advantage of as far as I know," Starfire interrupted. "Do you feel taken advantage of, Raven?"
"Why no, no I don't believe I do. Do you, Starfire?"
"Not in the slightest. Do you, Marky?"
"I, uh, I don't...I mean, well no, but... This can't be right. Is this some sort of test or a joke, because it's not funny."
"I had a feeling you wouldn't believe us." Raven smirked. "Ready, Star?"
She giggled. "Ready."
Raven pushed her hair back behind her ears and kissed Beast right on the lips, as soon as she was done, Starfire repeated. The look on Beast's face when they pulled away was what's commonly known as 'deer in the headlights.'
"So uh...this is really happening?"
"If you want it to." Raven replied.
"So let me get this straight...I'd be dating you," he pointed at Starfire "and you," then at Raven. "...at the same time."
"That is right, we are sharing you. Sharing is what friends do after all." Starfire winked
"...but you're not dating each other...right?"
"Uh, no" Raven piped up. "Starfire's not my type."
"Oh thank goodness," Beast sighed in relief. "I couldn't imagine having to compete with either one of you.
The trio burst out laughing and each girl laid in bed beside him and grabbed each others' hands.
Suddenly the door slid open and a chorus of "WELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME!" was heard and everyone made their way back in and congratulated the two new couples.
AN: I'm trying to make up for lost time here. I hope you enjoy. There's still one more arc left in this story and perhaps an epilogue, so be on the look out! Until then!
