Chapter 36

Yugi yawned as he woke up, but didn't stretch; he'd learned the lesson of movement the first time around. They were mates, it was official, and they were now mates, the three of them. Why did he feel so giddy inside? Was he supposed to feel giddy, or was that just the afterglow of having sex four times this morning, yesterday, who knew? What he wouldn't give for a hot bath right now though, his back felt like he had tried to lift weights that were ten times too heavy for him.

He was suddenly lifted into a pair of arms, and carried from the room into the bathroom, where there was some water already running. Weird, he thought about it, and they did it just like magic. Maybe, being their mate meant that the senses were somehow heightened.

Atem chuckled as he placed him in the water. Yugi sighed as the hot water connected with his aching back. Yami slid over to him, pulling him into a kiss.

"Morning mate." He whispered pulling away. So yesterday then.

Think we should scare him now, or later?

Might as well get it over with.

Yugi jerked away from Yami, and into Atem's chest. He stared at Yami, seeing as he spoke without moving his lips and Yugi had heard him as clearly as when he spoke aloud. This was a very freaky weird.

"You…my head…why?" Yugi asked unable to form a coherent sentence. Yami chuckled and leaned his forehead against Yugi's.

It's called a mind link Yugi.

"No, that's a vampire thing." Yugi said.

"No, it's a mate thing." Atem contradicted

"Okay, so how does it work?" Yugi asked.

"Simple, you just think things in your head. Seeing as you're new to it, you won't be able to control your thoughts. Meaning if you don't want us to know about something, don't think it, or we'll hear it." Yami explained rubbing his thumb against his cheek.

Alright, anything else I should know about?

No, there's nothing else.

Okay, this is going to take some getting used to. Is there a distance limit with the mind link?

No, we'll be able to hear you wherever you are. Distance doesn't matter to a mate.

Okay, I'm hungry.

Atem and Yami laughed before Yami got out of the tub to retrieve some food. Atem wrapped his arms around Yugi's waist and pulled him close. He placed his cheek against Yugi's hair. Yugi closed his eyes, and leaned back against him.

You're ours and ours alone, finally. Yami and I have wanted you as our mate since we first laid eyes on you coming out of that ice cream parlor six months ago. Now it's a reality, you're ours.

"Wait, do you mean to say that you stalked me for four months?" Yugi asked in shock.

Mmm, it was worth the wait, and hours we put into it. You almost caught sight of us a few times too. However, you fell back on your human nature and shook it off while muttering to yourself.

Yugi recalled the times when he felt like he was being watched, but when he turned to look behind him he found nothing there. They were right though, he had just shaken it off muttering to himself about being paranoid. To think that they could have grabbed him at anytime, but hadn't. It made him wonder why.

You were so interesting to watch. We often found ourselves staring at you for hours before realizing we had at least five chances to grab you and we hadn't. Then something would happen the next day, and we would be glad we had waited another day.

That went on for like four months until we got tired of drinking microwaveable blood from a bag and wanting it to be hot and fresh again. So we made a decision that we wouldn't get distracted, we would just grab you. Two weeks later and we finally did.

Hmm, lucky me, now I have two mates. I honestly couldn't imagine myself being any happier than I am now.

"Wonderful." Atem whispered tilting his head up and drawing him into a kiss. He meant it, he really was happy. There was no way he was going to let Sa-Onee-chan steal this from him. Though, he would have to watch his thoughts, since they weren't private anymore. No more thinking about his sister.

Why not? We'd love to know what she does.

Atem.

Fine, I won't push it.

Doesn't matter, you'll find out soon enough anyway.

So you'll tell us?

No, I'm just going to let nature take its course.

"Okay, here's your food." Yami said slipping back into the tub and balancing the tray on the ledge. Yugi pulled away from Atem, and attacked the food with the hunger equivalent of a starving man. Atem and Yami laughed.

Reminds me of the first time he ate in our presence.

Yeah, only he couldn't hear our thoughts on it that time.

That's probably a good thing.

Atem kissed the back of his neck, before laying his cheek against his hair again. It made Yugi wonder if he was tired, who knew how many times they had gone at it after they had told him to go to sleep. He wondered if that trick still worked now that he was their mate, or if maybe he was immune to it. He also wondered if he could put up a mental barrier so they didn't hear his thoughts 24/7. That would be something to work on.

How about you just work on controlling what you want us to hear first, before you go trying to put up a barrier.

Yeah, try not to get ahead of yourself and try something too complicated.

What's complicated about picturing a brick wall surrounding your head?

Hello? Anyone out there? Cool, I did it! Now watch it crumble down!

YUGI!

Ack! Don't yell, that hurts!

What did you just do?!

I put up a brick wall.

Well don't do that anymore, you scared us. Yami pulled Yugi out of Atem's arms and into his own, rocking him back and forth.

"Yeah, I can feel that." Yugi said in slight wonder.

"Well the mind link does allow, if they're strong enough, for emotions to be shared as well." Atem explained gently.

"Alright, no more brick walls." Yugi conceded because there are so many other substances I can use as a wall too. Yugi tried to keep that thought to himself, and since neither Atem nor Yami commented, he figured he had succeeded. Still it was better to be safe than sorry.

"It's better to be safe than sorry, about what?" Yami asked looking down at him.

"Putting up walls between us." Yugi said honestly.

"That's a very agreeable statement." Yami said nuzzling his hair. Yugi guessed the affection only increased when you became mates.

"That it does." Atem said with a mischievous look in his eyes that had Yugi shrinking into Yami. He really needed to learn how to control his thoughts better.

"Oh no, you don't want to do that, then how will we know what you're thinking?" Yami asked his arms slowly sneaking down lower on Yugi's body.

Um, you won't, but that's kind of the point.

Yugi slipped out of his arms and floated over to the other side of the tub. He lay against the wall of the tub, leaning his head against the ledge, and closing his eyes, completely relaxed. He just hoped nobody disturbed his relaxation because that would be incredibly mean of them.

Then we'll just have to settle for being incredibly mean.

Yugi shrieked with laughter as he was mercilessly tickled. He was breathing heavily by the time they were done, and tried to get them back. He didn't have much luck as they drew him into several make out sessions. This left him tired for a different reason as he laid his head against Atem's shoulder and fell asleep.

[Time skip]

"Again, again, again!" Clara shouted with delight.

"Again?" Yugi asked.

"Yeah!" all the little kids shouted.

"Alright, we'll do it again." Yugi said as he got up off the grass. They all held hands and started spinning round in circles.

"Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down." Yugi sang falling down with the giggling children. Yugi glanced up to see Atem and Yami watching them from the balcony. He still couldn't believe it, he was actually their mate, theirs.

Yeah, ours, our human.

My vampires, my mates.
