Arctic suddenly found extreme difficulty in carry out such a second nature action as inhaling and exhaling required oxygen. The feeling was fairly similar to someone placing a boulder of immense size and weight atop her chest, slowly but surely crushing the fragile lungs into a mushy, liquid material.

'How...why...?' Those very words continue echoing within the deep recesses of Arctics mind. And they refused to cease until a logical explanation was presented. 'How can something like this even happen? Hell, how does the pup of a hedgehog and fox have butterfly wings sprouting out her back?! It defies all logic!' In that moment Arctic is reminded of Luna, the wolf born with a phoenix wing attached on either side of her spine and fiery powers right at the fingertips. Suddenly the butterfly wings weren't the craziest thing they've ever witnessed.

"Luna..." The frail kitsune miraculously wheezed out to her older sibling. "Y-you're the expert on magical creatures or whatever. So some logical reasoning would be greatly appreciated right about now!" Luna didn't blame her younger sister for the snappish attitude. She had just given birth after all. Plus, was clearly experiencing a remainder of hormonal imbalance as well.

"Alright, alright; just calm down and give me a second to comprehend everything." Truth be told, Luna wasn't any less confused about this predicament than Scourge and Arctic were. Her knowledge about supernatural anomalies of this world was considered immeasurable, yes, but because all information about endangered fairies mysteriously perished hundreds of years ago, Luna couldn't speculate a logical answer. Even still, she needed to try something.

"Let me have a look at her, Scourge." Luna calmly requested of the emerald hedgehog who'd remained uncharacteristically silent whilst cradling his newborn daughter. When his brain had managed to comprehend what'd been said, he did something truly unexpected and denied by tightening his hold which made hidden muscles beneath his pelt visibly tense. The wolf merely sighed.

"You dont have any other choice. Whats happened to your daughter is something extraordinary and unpredictable that requires immediate attention before becoming something uncontrollable." She cautiously outstretched her glove less palm towards the cooing baby, attempting to observe its wings before Scourge growled with his sharp fangs bared. Even Scourge didn't have a clue where that came from. There was just something about seeing his defenseless kit in somebody else's possession making his normal senses malfunction, turn feral almost.

Wasn't anything new. This type of unruly behavior was exceedingly common in new parents on Mobius. Luna knows from experience; she acted quite predatory herself after the twins. Even Shadow, father of aforementioned twins, couldn't come within arms reach without being vividly threatened by the mother wolf.

"Please," She actually begged. "Trust me like I...like I trust you with my little sister." From the beginning, it became evident that Luna and Scourge rarely saw eye to eye on anything; especially matters concerning Arctic. Her older sibling solely believed the emerald hedgehogs affections were nothing but another shameless ruse, and once he successfully acquired Arctics virginity, she'd be thrown out like yesterdays trash. As for Scourge, he claimed that the gray and hot pink hybrid was acting way too overprotective and that he deserved some trust here. Seriously, he's going to marry Arctic a few months from now-what else did she need?

Reading Scourges expression like an open book, Luna again disrupted the tense silence by asking a specific question.

"Will you trust me?" Suddenly everything became clear. Well, not transparent clear but more like the fog shrouding between their pointless rivalry diminished a little. Just enough for Scourge to comprehend the answer to his own question; in order to gain her trust, some trust needed to be sacrificed as well. As was her trademark policy.

Much less begrudging then he'd felt beforehand, Scourge separated himself from the cooing infantile and carefully placed her into the wolfs arms. Hard to believe nearly ten months prior he wanted nothing more than to extract that 'parasite' from Arctics womb and continue living his bachelor lifestyle child free. Now here he was, desperately clutching the shivering newborn like a precious lifeline-overlooking the fact that her matted fur was slick with slippery afterbirth. Funny how dramatically ones emotions can alter over a period of time, isn't it?

"Thank you." Luna mouthed, flashing Scourge a brief but genuine smile that displayed how grateful she truly felt inside. Scourge and Luna were still a long ways away from making amends-no question about that. But maybe this was the sort of nudge both parties needed to start making compromises, to eventually join together as a loving family. Such a valiant effort and commitment would undoubtedly make Arctic the happiest mobian ever known.

Luna immediately started her studious observation, leaving no features to waste. First thing she took note of was the markings-they were indeed present but not an evil pitch black. Rather, they carried a glittery sky blue shade that didn't seem disastrous at all.

"Mm hmm...yeah, I figured as such..." She muttered towards nobody in particular. Her claw-less digits trailed towards the younger hybrids backside, giving the fluttering wings an experimental tug. A shrill cry of pain erupted from its owner.

"Least we know one thing for sure-those wings are completely real." Of course they were real. Its not like those wings were just there for decoration or anything, but it didn't hurt to confirm that suspicion.

"What?" Arctic finally asked. She felt slightly more wide awake then earlier, but was still wiped out.

"Well, im not exactly a professional on supernatural studies. Although, if I were to make an educated guess, i'd have to say she's been blessed." Luna's explanation received skeptical stares, especially from her younger sibling. "Blessed? In what way is that considered a blessing?"

"For one thing, she doesn't have demonic fairy wings like you did long ago." Luna reminded, "Secondly, its purely the cause of your actions that prevented her from receiving the curse. Think about it-ever since you came here, Scourge has become a better person. You could even say he's been reformed." That word in particular grasped Arctics undivided attention and raised her heartbeat to critical levels.

"So...what you're saying is...i-is-" She stuttered off wordlessly.

"Yes. Congratulations sister, you've successfully concluded the fairies curse. Thus making it a fairies blessing." Arctic couldn't believe her own ears. After almost twenty years of suffering from that torturous curse she'd been born into, after committing countless mistakes that will continue haunting her in this life and quite possibly the next, some nameless force decided to forgive everything. She could practically feel the shackles of darkness coming unlocked, freeing her constricted heart and soul.

This astonishing moment was disrupted by a monstrous growl reaching their sensitive ears effortlessly. The source being a whimpering pups stomach. Ten white claws in total popped out from her adorable little paws and commenced scratching against Luna's white tank top, her lips performing a sucking motion. Luna blushed deeply.

"No, no, no sweetheart. Dont touch those-I'm not your mommy." Not wasting another second, Luna hastily passed the whining hedge-fox to her true mother. Mysteriously, she ceased whimpering and started nuzzling into Arctics thick chest fur, starting to suckle instinctively-not to mention nosily-against a bulging, milky teat. "That's your mommy." Arctic smiled both graciously and tiredly towards the nursing baby, how its wings fluttered frantically from happiness. Luna decided both parents should probably have some alone time together. They'd been through the most emotionally stressful occurrence known to man-plus, it'll be approximately four minutes before they morph into ravenous mongrels who maul any unfamiliar outsiders.

Being alone, Scourge crawled in besides Arctic and took a curious glance towards his alarm clock. 3:11 am.

"What should...we name her?" Arctic inquired breathlessly. Taking a prolonged pause to inhale large quantities of oxygen and exhale unnecessary carbon dioxide, she mentioned a baby name she'd been contemplating for a while. "Scourgette?" Upon receiving a pissed off glare, Arctic couldn't refrain from busting out into a fit of giddy giggles. "Ha ha, so not happening." Scourge chuckled sarcastically before finishing his statement in a stern voice. She pouted cutely. "Why not? I think it sounds totally adorable."

Afterwards, both Arctic and Scourge sat upright against the wooden headboard. Not saying anything or jostling around into a more comfortable position. Just taking some time to absorb how unusually silent Castle Acorn had become. Might as well enjoy the complete silence while it lasts, considering how unbelievably riled four infantile mobians could and certainly would become.

"How 'bout Meadow Brooke?" Scourge suggested, "See, cause she's got light green fur like a meadow and a splash of blue like those brooks." This specific name combining two graceful and etiquette names into one hadn't received an answer-not even an acknowledging hum. "Babe?"

Arctic liked the name. No-she loved the name. It perfectly suited such a pretty, energetic and optimistic young hybrid. She would've undoubtedly voiced her opinion regarding the name if this commonly eerie silence wasn't adding weight to her drowsy eyes. Plus, this irregular silence was effectively lulling into a much needed slumber. Her tense muscles melted away like a slab of butter across burning toast, slacking limply across the damp bedspread irregardless.

Feeling his fiancee completely deserved about ten hours or more undisturbed sleep, Scourge cautiously extracted Meadow from continuing to nurse on nutrient sufficing teats, which she willingly accepted in exchange for nestling into Scourges jacket again. Though excessively tired, Meadow Brookes amethyst orbs glowed brightly amidst the lonely darkness.

"Hey there, princess." Scourge greeted just above a whisper, scratching a glove clad finger against the underside of her chin. "You dont know this but...daddy acted pretty stupid before you were born. Really stupid." As if understanding every word Scourge had said, Meadow responded by clapping her paws and giggling amusingly. The former anti of Sonic couldn't resist grinning devilish beneath the moons graceful luminescent glow, further brightening his sharpened ivories. Then his smile faltered into a depressing scowl.

"I'm gonna tell you something that I haven't told many people before." He breathed lowly, giving Arctic a courtesy glance before returning his attention towards Meadow. "Growing up, I didn't have the perfect family; my dad was always neglecting me because a few days after id been born, my mom left the castle without a trace. She didn't even...hold me. Not once." Scourge snarled distastefully. Throughout his entire life, Scourge never learned a thing about his mother. What was her name? Was she beautiful? But more importantly, why did she leave his father? The only theory Scourge honestly believed was his mothers disappearance left Anti Jules in a miserable state, one where discreetly abusing his son became an effective outlet for alleviating his heartache. A permanent reminder of how the emerald hedgehog how he'd treated Arctic, an innocent young girl who continued loving him regardless.

Meadow Brooke's onyx irises were stretched thinly much like a snakes, sensing her fathers negative aura fighting against her happiness. She commenced squirming and fussing silently until meeting a comfortable position against Scourges scarred chest, nuzzling her head inwards while the petite butterfly wings became tucked. The emerald hedgehog couldn't hold back a genuine smile.

"So when your mom said she was pregnant, I didn't exactly want you at first. I was freaking out about turning into my own father and making you so mad you'd eventually kill me. But your mother proved me wrong." His fingers brushed against Meadows premature quills. She purred contently. "I know you're too young to get this, but ill never hurt ya. I promise."

In the minutes that followed, Meadow Brooke had been lulled to sleep by the soothing rhythm of her fathers breathing. Her pristine white claws becoming relaxed and retreating inside their protective slits, but still keeping a secure grip on Scourges torn jacket. He couldn't prevent a sly chuckle from breaking out past his peach lips.

'Reminder: find a mini jacket for Babe Jr.' His icy eyes drifted over to Arctics slumbering form less than twelve feet away, smirking mischievously upon using the preferred yet rejected nickname he thought up.

Scourge slowly stretched his free hand around Arctics slumbering figure, starting to gingerly caress her fluffy muzzle. His cocky trademark smirk made its return across his fleshy muzzle.

'Love ya, babe.' Arctic merely heaved a sigh of exhaustion and subconsciously nuzzled her stubby nose further against the inviting palm. While coming off as soothingly warm and incredibly soft against her chilled fur, there was another key factor that always peeked the three tailed kitsunes interest. Something a handful of the heartless people residing on Moebius ever truly experienced.

That small but vital factor was her soul mates presence permeating easily through the darkness shrouding around her tormented mind. The feeling alone reminded her that everything would be okay now. Because no longer was she a spineless, trembling pet that anyone could claim. For as long as the fairies immortality would reign, Arctic would forever belong to Scourge, the hedgehog who'd captured her heart.

And she couldn't be happier.
