Staying Behind

Set during the last scene between Alice, Kmart, and Claire when they are saying goodbye at the end of Extinction.

Alice and Kmart rushed to help the others as Claire raced to get the helicopter started. They knew they only had a few short minutes, maybe even seconds, before the undead reached them and time had always seemed to be against them in the few short years since the outbreak that left everyone they loved a zombie and the rest of the world desolate.

Claire let out a sigh of relief as she heard the helicopter's engine roar to life and waited as Kmart and the others climbed in beside and behind her, sending a silent prayer to any god that care to listen that the tiny aircraft would be able to hold all of them as they traveled to Alaska, to the town of Arcadia, the only place that has been rumored to be a safe zone for those who have not been infected by the T-Virus.

Kmart was busy checking to make sure the other teens had made it onto the aircraft when she felt something land on her lap. It was the journal that had given them the idea of Arcadia and the good fortune that it would bring to them. She looked up to see that it was Alice who had handed it to her. It only took her one tenth of a second to realize what it had meant.

"You're not coming!", She asked, practically screaming to be heard over the sounds of the choppers.

Alice shook her head sadly, "Take care of the others".

Kmart nodded, trying to keep from crying. She knew she shouldn't be surprised. It was obvious from the moment she had met the blonde haired woman that Alice was used to being alone and handling things on her own. Still, that didn't stop her from growing fond of the woman who had used her powers to save them from zombified birds who had already taken the lives of many from their convoy. She admired Alice, and was hoping that maybe she would stay with them especially now that they were already down to Claire as their last leader.

Alice turned to Claire and gave her a halfhearted salute. It wasn't much of a good bye, but it was all that was needed. Claire and Alice weren't the best of friends, due to the fact that it took Claire most of the time that Alice had spent with them to figure out that she could trust the mysterious woman. If Claire were honest with herself, she'd admit that there was apart of her that was hoping that Alice would come. She would need her help if this whole Arcadia idea turned out to be a sham. She understood though, that Alice's battle with Umbrella went further then just her need to save the world. She could only wish her luck.

Alice watched as the helicopter slowly made its ascend. She could still see Kmart looking down on her and for a second, wished that she had chosen to go with them. But she knew that no matter where she went, trouble would catch up to her and anyone she was with. As long as Umbrella had control over her she was a threat to anyone she traveled with. Alice turned around and headed towards the small hut that was the entrance to Umbrella. She had a score to settle. She was the only one who had the power to take them down. And she would, even if it meant her death in the process. She would do it for Carlos, and for every person who had gone before her.

This is my first story. I might update it if I get enough reviews, who knows? I love the relationship between Alice/Claire/Kmart:)
