Chapter 9

Dist's Room

They arrived back at the cathedral, Floyd sighed looking at the giant building. For some reason he hated it even more then he did the other day.

"Is there something wrong Floyd?" Yulia tilted her head as Floyd quickly shook his.

"No...nothing is wrong, you and Freyr can check around the cathedral for the stupid rabbit while me and Liebe will check back with the Oracle Knights," Floyd sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. He knew Yulia wouldn't stop worrying about the monster and he doubted Freyr would have been interested in the stuff they were going to be investigating.

"Very well, I'll escort Yulia through this building, who knows perhaps we may find something of interest," Freyr seemed somewhat satisfied with the conclusion as they all walked into the building before going their separate ways.

As Floyd and Liebe split from the group walking down the stairs the pink-haired woman spoke, "this is rather dream like I must say, ending up in the future seems rather farfetched," she chuckled as Floyd groaned.

"Don't be silly, this isn't a dream; the fact that you are standing right next to me proves that," Floyd held his breath as they slowly descended the stairs. He didn't want her to start asking questions. Despite being a decent liar, he was terrible at keeping track of them.

"You say that but...my memory is a bit fuzzy, I can remember a lot of things in my life, but there are significant gaps in it. Like they have been removed..." despite her words, Liebe's tone wasn't that of concern but of intrigue.

Floyd bit his bottom lip, if someone as important as Yulia who's entire life was recorded was suffering from memory loss then everyone else would have it much worse. Of course, it wasn't memory loss, but rather the lack of information for the replicator reproduce false ones.

Only the moments and skills recorded in history books would be accounted for. All of the other details wasn't going to be recorded. Which strangely enough made Floyd want to question something.

"Liebe...do you think you've been acting differently lately?"

"Huh, if I may be so bold to reply, I do think we know each other well enough for me to answer that," Liebe's reply was blunt. However, that wasn't what Floyd wanted to know.

"No, not now, but I mean compared to how you acted before you came to this time. Have you've been doing anything you may find strange?" it was a stupid question now that Floyd thought about it, but an interesting one.

One's personality is made up of their experiences and memories, if even one little memory was off, it could completely change how a person looked at life or functioned. The fact that many of the replicas had only pieces of their info was interesting.

"I...do not believe so, Floyd, where are you getting at," Liebe glared at him as Floyd quickly turned his head. Luckily they were back at Oracle Knight HQ, at least that is what the dim lights and prison like atmosphere told them.

"I'm surprised they didn't seal it off," Liebe said as Floyd shook his head.

"That would draw too much attention, not only that they probably already sent everyone they were going to send out, even with all that I am technically authorized personnel," Floyd pointed that out, though he disliked admitting it.

"So now that we are here, what do you wish to do?"

"Well, I like to go to Dist's room, he may have a way to send all of you back," that was a lie. Well, rather half of it was, Floyd was interested in seeing if he left any notes about his current situation.

Still, breaking into a god-generals room would be difficult. Even if they were allowed to walk freely in the headquarters for the time being their entire plan would fall apart if just one of them was around.

Floyd took a deep breathing trying to recall what hall Dist stayed it, while the god-generals shared a title they didn't remain in the same area of the HQ, most of them stayed in completely separate areas or outside of the facility altogether.

Floyd and Liebe walked through the halls, every time they walked past an Oracle Knight they tensed up. Even when they weren't hostile, there was something about their armor that made Floyd's skin crawl.

They finally got to what Floyd assumed to be Dist room; the rose colored plaque was the giveaway. Floyd's eyes narrowed as he quickly looked around, while he doubted that any of the knights were very fond of Dist he couldn't be too careful.

Floyd placed his hand on the handle, and to his shock, the door wasn't look. Despite being excited, he was concerned.

"Shit, if he didn't bother to lock his room,"

"I assume that means there probably isn't anything important in there," Liebe echoed Floyd's thoughts as they entered the room.

It was decorated...rather strangely, pick black and red was a common them as Floyd noticed a lack of a bed.

"I guess he doesn't sleep here," Floyd frowned before opening the drawers and pulling out papers.

"What are we looking for exactly?" the pink haired woman asked as Floyd shook his head.

"Nothing you have to worry about..." as Floyd quickly scanned the papers he noticed a strange paper that seemed like it was written in code.

"I guess it would have been pretty dumb of him to leave that out in the open," Floyd sighed, he grabbed a blank sheet of paper and a nearby pen and started to copy whatever was on the paper.

Liebe leaned over his shoulder shocked by his speed. "You're use to doing this sort of thing aren't you?"

Floyd just nodded, "yeah, I worked at a research facility after all. If I couldn't do this much I would have been fired a log time ago,"

He sighed, thinking about it his job was long gone by then. There was no way anyone was going to forgive his blunder, especially now that he encountered the necromancer.

After Floyd finished copying the notes he put the papers back exactly where he found them. He was about to leave the room before Liebe stopped him.

"Wait, don't you think it is kind of odd that the door was unlocked, we should check if there is a type of fail safe," Liebe pointed that out as Floyd tilted his head.

Video files and cameras were rare, though if someone had them Dist would be it. Still, he didn't notice anything odd, at least that was until Liebe picked up a small slit of paper near the doorway.

Most normal people wouldn't have noticed such a thing, Floyd tapped his lip for a moment as both he and Liebe slipped out of the room. Liebe then slid the paper between the door, most likely putting it in its original position.

It was a simple trick, something Floyd was shocked that Dist would use. Or rather , Floyd knew for a fact that Dist wouldn't use something so mundane.

"Someone was here before us..." he whispered under his breath. It would explain why the door was unlocked, someone wanted to check who would be looking for Dist.

"Did you find everything you needed to?"

"Yeah...at least for now, let's hurry up and get out of here before anyone ask too many questions," they quickly walked out of the hallway and back to the cathedral before anyone really asked any questions.

Once they were back Floyd scanned the papers he had just obtained. They were Dist's no doubt, and from the way they were written it was clear he only wanted a select few to be able to read his notes.

"I'm going to have to decipher these later," Floyd winced, he had done such work in the past and rarely was it ever enjoyable.

"Would you want help with that? I am a researcher after all, and from the looks of it, it seems to be a rather basic code," Liebe asked as he shook my head.

"No, I'm fine, it's not really a big deal," he groaned, the last thing he needed was someone else finding out something before him.

Just as their conversation ended Yulia and Freyr came walking up to them.

"So, did you find the bunny...thing?" Floyd grumbled as Yulia shook her head.

"No, even despite bringing its sibling I wasn't able to find it," Yulia frowned as Floyd scratched the back of his head.

"Don't give me that look, we really can't stay here much longer..." now that Floyd had Dist's papers there really wasn't any point in staying in Daath. At most it would take one my day to translate the notes.

"So, once we are done here what is our next step?" Freyr got straight to the point as Floyd tapped his lip.

"I'll let you guys decide that..." he was mostly hoping that Dist had a solution's to his problem. If there was no solution to be found he would have to locate the man himself, something he wanted to avoid no matter what.

"Isn't that a bit lazy of you, letting us decide when we have no idea how the world is?" Freyr made a good point, but Yulia instantly cut him off.

"Really? There is actually so much I want to see!" Yulia grinned causing Floyd to groan. He had a feeling he was going to regret the decision.

"Regardless, for now lets head back to Daath's port, there is an inn we can stay at. Once we are there I will start deciphering these notes and we can head to the next destination from there."

It was a basic plan, but one that had been working up to that point.

As the four of them left the building Floyd couldn't shake an unsettling feeling. Why would someone other than him break into Dist's chambers?

I've been super busy lately with school and writing for Amazon etc. Sorry for the HUGE delay between chapters.
