Chapter 7

Kay Call was the last person Billy expected to find on his doorstep but he welcomed her in his home with open arms. She looked as if she's been crying and he knew she needed help.

"What can I do you for Kay?"

"I don't even know where to start. I hate to ask this of you but I truly believe this is what best for my son."

"What is it?"

"I want Embry to stay here with you and Jacob."

"Why? What's going on?"

"I really haven't told too many people this but I'm moving to New York in a few days. You know how I was taking paralegal classes? Well I got hired by a law firm out there. I thought that this would be good for me, and Embry but I was wrong. From the beginning he was adamant that he didn't want to leave. I told him that he didn't have a choice and he's been miserable ever since. He thinks I made this decision just to separate him from Sue's daughter."

"Her name is Leah and she is a very special girl, Embry really cares for her."

"I realize that now."

"You have to let it go Kay." She closed her eyes and covered her face with her hands as if she were trying to hide. "What happened was so long ago and I know you loved Harry but he chose to marry Sue, he's gone now."

"I just wish that Embry had been his son."

"It wasn't meant to be."

"You're right. I am finally trying to move on with my life but I can't do it here. The memory of him is everywhere and every time I see his beautiful children-" She stopped to wipe the tears that started spilling from her eyes. "Every time I see their children I am just reminded of how I was nothing more than his mistress."

"He did care for you Kay. But as hard as it is to hear this he loved Sue with all his heart. You may not believe this now but you will find someone who loves you that way too."

"I haven't found him yet." Billy smiled at her.

"New York is a big place." She chuckled. Talking to him was starting to make her feel better.

"That it is. So is it okay if Embry stays with you?" Leaving her son behind was the hardest decision she's ever had to make. But she knew if she forced him to go he would resent her and she didn't want that. And after finding him and Leah wrapped around each other on her couch she knew she couldn't separate them. She could see how much they needed each other. And she knew firsthand how much it hurts when you couldn't be with the person you love.

"Why on Earth would you want to leave your boy with a crippled old man?" He teased.

"You've always been like a father to him Billy, please do this for me." Her eyes pleaded with him and he knew he couldn't turn her down. Besides, he and Jake would be thrilled that they were going to live together. They've always been like brothers.

"Of course."

"Thank you, this means so much to me." She said embracing him in a hug and placing a kiss on his cheek.

"Does Embry know?" She shook her head.

"I haven't told him yet. I didn't want to say anything in case you said no." They agreed to tell him together and said their goodbyes making Billy wonder what he just gotten himself into. He could barely keep up with one teenage boy and now he was going to have two.

"This is so fucking embarrassing." Leah groaned as we were at the pharmacy picking up condoms and our newly prescribed birth control pills. Sue had taken us to the clinic and to our relief neither one of us was pregnant. "We might as well have the words sexually active written on our foreheads." I chuckled.

"It's not that bad Leah. It's not anymore embarrassing than buying tampons I guess. Or would you rather one of us end up pregnant?"

"Of course not! It's not like I'll be having sex anytime soon anyway." I put my hand on her shoulder in silent support. She had taken the news of Embry moving pretty hard and I had no words of comfort for her. I knew from experience what she was going through. Once he's gone nothing will ever be the same. No amount of phone calls, pictures, or instant messages can substitute. It's so cliché but true, there's nothing like the real thing. As we were in line paying for our items I saw a familiar group of girls enter the pharmacy and my eyes instantly narrowed as they spotted us. They walked over to us and I sensed trouble.

"Well aren't you a responsible little slut." Lauren sneered at me after seeing what I had put in my bag. Leah hated her on sight and I gave her a look to let her know I could handle it.

"I'm not in the mood for your bullshit today Lauren so if you'll excuse me I'm leaving." I said trying to control my temper but she just stood there making no attempt to move out of the way.

"I know you've been fucking my boyfriend."

"Ex-boyfriend." Angela corrected her and she shot her a nasty look. Angela was so sweet I didn't know how she ended up being friends with them.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. I have my own boyfriend and I don't even know who you're talking about so-"

"Don't play dumb with me Bella. Jessica saw him leaving your house." I looked at her in confusion before it suddenly clicked. He had a girlfriend this whole time? Why was I not surprised? I looked over at Jessica who cowered under my gaze.

"Did she now? Did she also tell you how he's been coming onto me and that I've been turning him down?" It was her turn to look back at Jessica whose face was completely red. "The only reason he was at my house was because he just showed up trying to get me to go out with him. It seems like your issue is with him, not me."

"You lying bitch-"

"I don't have to lie about anything. Like I told you before I have a boyfriend who I love and even if I didn't I wouldn't want that psycho now get the hell out of my face." I must have finally gotten through to her because she backed away and was about to leave. Angela stayed right where she was and Lauren called out to her.

"Angela what the hell are you coming?"

"No. I'm not going anywhere with you." She spat and we all looked at her in shock.

"Fine make your way home then traitor." Lauren stormed out making me wonder what they were doing here in the first place.

"I'm sorry about that. She seems to think Edward broke up with her because of you."

"You don't have to keep apologizing for her. Like I said before he's been pursuing me but I'm not interested." Angela looked over at Leah and I realized I hadn't introduced them. "Angela this is my close friend Leah, Leah this is Angela." They shook hands and gave each other a warm smile.

"Who is this Edward? You never told me anything about this." Leah asked as we made our way back to Amber's car. She let me borrow it since she's been locked in Sam's house for the past few days. I filled Leah in about his attempts to lure me away from Jacob and she shook her head. "He does sound like a psycho."

"Which is why I've always thought him and Lauren belonged together." Angela said and we laughed.

"Did you want a ride home?"

"Is it okay if I hang out with you guys? I'm not quite ready to go home yet." There was an anxiousness to her words and I got the impression that she was actually afraid to go home.

"Sure. We're just going to my house for a while is that okay?" She shook her head in agreement and soon we were on our way. It didn't take long to reach our destination and once we were inside I finally asked her what I've been wondering this whole time. "Why are you even friends with her? You're obviously nothing like them." She looked over at me and just shrugged her shoulders.

"She's the most popular girl at school and I guess I just wanted to fit in. But I'm so done following her around, she's nothing but a pain in the ass." We were all in agreement on that. She was the main reason I don't want to go to school in Forks. "She's determined to ruin your life now because Edward dumped her."

"I had nothing to do with that!"

"Yeah her guy is smoking hot there's no way she would stray." Leah teased pulling up a picture of me and Jacob on her phone and showing it Angela.

"Holy shit that's your boyfriend? He's beautiful! Edward's supposed to be the hottest guy at school but he can't hold a candle to him. And that body-" Her voice trailed off making me wonder which picture Leah had shown her. I lean over them to see her phone and discover it was the picture we had taken a few weeks ago on the beach. It was actually a warm day so the boys were playing flag football shirtless. Jacob ran over to me scooping me in his arms before placing a kiss on my lips and that's when Leah had snapped the picture. Even with his torso being mostly covered by mine you could still see his muscled arms and his perfectly sculpted abs. It made my heart race just to see it.

"Yeah that's my Jake." My smile was wide as I said it and I saw a sadness spread across her face. "Do you have a boyfriend Angela?"

"No. Guys don't really seem to notice me." Leah and I looked at her in surprise, she was a really pretty girl.

"But there's someone you have your eye on isn't it." Leah asked. She blushed and a shy smile spread across her face.

"Yeah there is. His name is Mike, but he has this big crush on Jessica so he doesn't even know I exist."

"Then he isn't worth your time. There's someone better out there for you."

"I hope you're right." She sighed hopefully and it was then that I decided to get this girl out of her shell.

Embry looked around his empty room and was overcome with sorrow. Everything that happened in his life thus far has happened right here in La Push and he felt like he was leaving a piece of himself behind. That's because he was, he was leaving his Leah behind. Tears welled into his eyes at the thought but he pushed them away. They weren't going to do him any good. He grabbed his bags and headed into the living room and was surprised to see Billy Black sitting there talking to his mother. What was he doing here? Embry thought to himself.

"Hi Billy." He nodded to the older man in greeting and turned to his mother.

"Embry I have something to tell you." She looked at him nervously and for a second he couldn't help but wonder if there was something going on between them. That would be weird.

"What is it?"

"You're not coming with me Embry, you're staying here." He looked at his mother in confusion but then figured this must be where Billy comes into play. His mother looked at him with such sadness that he knew this was breaking her heart. She started to cry and he couldn't resist the urge to comfort her. He hated to see his mother cry. With her sobbing into his chest he could no longer hold back his emotions and he too started to cry.

"I don't want to leave you honey, I don't. But you're better off here, I can't stand to see you hurting."

"Why do you have to leave mom? Just stay."

"I can't. There's a lot of things you don't understand yet but just like it's best for you to be here, it's better for me to go to New York and start over. Besides this is an opportunity I can't afford to pass up. You're going to stay with Billy and don't worry I'll come visit as much as I can and I'll call you every single day. I love you sweetheart."

"I love you too mom, I'm going to miss you."

"I'm going to miss you too Embry, so much." They dried their tears and reluctantly let each other go. "You should help Billy out to his truck, I have to get to the airport." He nodded but looked at his mother in awe. Her knew how much this was hurting her but she loved him so much that she was doing this for him. He placed a kiss on her cheek and smiled at her.

"Thank you mom." He said to her before looking at her one last time and wheeling Billy out the door.

"Ugh!" I groaned in frustration as I paced my bedroom like a caged animal. It was the middle of the night but I couldn't sleep. It had been days since I've seen Jacob and I missed him terribly. I swear our fathers had conspired to keep us apart and so far, it's been working. Charlie had taken a whole week off work and decided we needed some father daughter time. And Billy had been keeping Jacob busying working around the house so I've had to settle for phone calls which aren't nearly good enough. It was hard being away from him. I was like an addict who's gone too long without a hit and now the withdrawal was kicking my ass. I had gotten used to him being by my side every day and the pain from his absence was unbearable. My soul yearned for his presence and my body ached for his touch. I just had to see him and I knew I wouldn't rest until I did. There was only one thing for me to do. I grabbed my phone and of course he was programmed as my number one speed dial and it only took him seconds to answer.

"Hey Bells. Couldn't sleep again huh?" His voice was deep and husky and I could tell he had been sleeping.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you. I just really miss you."

"I miss you too."

"Then get your ass out of bed and come get me."

"Come get you? Honey it's almost 1:00 am."

"I'm fully aware of what time is it, but the way I'm feeling right now I guess I really don't care."

"Our fathers are going to kill us."

"Really Jacob? Since when are you the responsible one? I'm not worried about our dads or anything else I need you." The desperation in my voice must have finally gotten through to him because he ended the call with four simple words.

"I'm on my way." Satisfied with his response I grabbed a tee shirt and jeans changing out of my pajamas before running the brush through my hair. I was grateful that Charlie had finally gone back to work and was currently covering the night shift so he wouldn't be home until morning. I couldn't have picked a better night to do this. Minutes later my phone beeped with a text and it was Jacob telling me he was outside. He had parked a few houses away to avoid detection and I grabbed my keys locking up the house before jogging up the street to the car. I saw his face light up through the windshield when he spotted me and his smile gave me butterflies. His expression matched mine and it made my heart soar that he felt the same way. I hopped into the passenger seat returning his smile and he pulled me to him placing his lips on mine. His lips were so soft and the taste of him was intoxicating, but it still wasn't enough to satisfy my craving. My arms wrapped around his neck and his went around my waist as we desperately tried to bring each other closer. I just couldn't get enough of him. I moaned into his mouth as his hands travelled back up and gripped my breast. My hands moved down his sculpted body before resting on his biceps as we hungrily attacked each other's lips. By this point I was straddling his lap and I was so turned on that I wanted him to take me right here in this car. His lips moved down to my neck sucking on it and I arched my back in pleasure. My back hit the steering wheel honking the horn making us both jump in surprise. Coming back to our senses we looked at each other and laughed. It was so easy to lose control with him.

"We should get out of here." He said and I agreed. I returned to the passenger seat and he headed back towards La Push. Without telling him he knew exactly where I wanted to go. We arrived at the beach and it was stunning this time of night. The moon shone high and full in the sky reflecting in the water and casting a beautiful glow over the beach. Being near the water always calmed me, that's why I could never feel comfortable in Phoenix.

"Charlie and I went to see his lawyer." I said casually as we walked along the shore hand in hand. "They're going to set up a hearing so I can talk to the judge. What if it doesn't work Jacob? What if they don't listen to me?"

"Just tell them the truth Bells. If you tell them what you told me and Charlie, there's no way they'll send you back."

"But they'll be there and-"

"So will Charlie and I. It'll be alright." I nodded knowing he was right. Even if they did make me go back I'll just leave again. I'll take off with Jacob and no one would be able to find us. Nothing was going to keep me away from him.

Edward Cullen was angry. He was used to getting whatever he wanted and he thought of Bella Swan as no different. Every teenage girl in Forks would want to be courted by him and he was baffled by her rejection. Until he actually saw her with her boyfriend. He should've known it was one of those fucking natives. That's all she seemed to care about. Edward had to admit that he was big and intimidating, and very good looking but he was still just a filthy native. And he could see the love in their eyes when they looked at each other. It made him sick. It was hard for him not to contact her but he knew it would be best to fade into the background until school started. There was no doubt she was going to Forks High. He owned that school. He was going to personally make sure that their schedules matched as much as possible.
