Damn the consequences 3
"S-Saria?"
How could a single name sound so foreign yet so natural on someone's lips…?
The youthful girl smiled, hitting Link with another blow to the heart, "Yes, I am here to help you Link."
Link didn't want to trust her. The whole situation screamed goddess intervention. Yet those gentle emeralds obliterated all his defensives, her sweet smile shattered his shield. Was it some form of magic? He didn't really feel any different, and yet how does this little girl affect him so much?
He sheathed the master sowrd with a weary look at the girl.
"I'll…trust you for now."
The young girl beamed, smiling fondly at him.
However her thoughts said otherwise.
'Don't freak out! Don't freak out! Don't freak out!' Although it seemed rather late for it, Farore tried to keep a cool head. The goddesses of courage and willpower turned into nothing but a blushing little teenager on the inside. Here she stood in front of the young man who capture her immortal heart. His deep cobalt eyes bore into her, making her knees shake lightly. His forestry scent over power everything. She could barely contain her self-form jumping in his arms and professing her undying love for him. It didn't help that the forest sage, Saria, was thinking the same thing.
'Just stay calm Farore and don't do anything stupid.'
"So Tink-"It seemed not even goddesses are impervious to little slips of the tongue.
Sadly it didn't go unnoticed by Link, "Uh Tink?"
'The creator be damned!' She inwardly cursed at his mistake.
'Smooth your highness.' The sage of the forest giggled in her head.
'Quite you!'
With a small cough, 'Saria' smiled, "So Link if you fallow me." With that she turned and walked deeper in the woods. Leaving Link and Epona with thoroughly confused.
'She acted like it never happened….' Link watched with a mix an astonishment and query.
Yet, still on his toes, Link fallowed her into the forest.
"Eep!"
Until she tripped over her own two feet.
"Uh…" Even though this being gave off an almost god like aura, she seemed to acting like a clumsy girl. It was rather cute, in Link opinion and it made him trust her just a little. "Are you alright?"
'Ugh! Saria! Why are you so short!?' Although her original body was rather small, Saria's really is that of a child so it was rather hard to get used to.
'Who's the one who gave the Koriko immortally in the first place?' The sage deadpanned her responses while the goddess groaned with her face in the dirt.
"Hey." Link, taking pity on the poor girl, helped her up. Making her squeak as he picked her up off the ground.
"You ok?" The genuine concern in his voice made her blush, making her lose even more of the mysterious air around herself.
"Y-Yes, I am just not used to this body yet." She dusted off the dirt form her clothes.
That drew some questions form the green cladded hero, "So you're a spirit possessing this body?"
Farore didn't notice her third mistake until Link voiced it out. "Y-Yes." Swiftly she conjured up a believable story. "Like the great fairy you met before, I am also. However I do not have a real body so I borrowed this one to speak and guide you."
"I see." At this point in Link's life where transforming in wolf, flying in the sky, fighting dragons, and different dimensions have become the norm for him a spirit possessing a girl's body didn't sound so farfetched. "But what about the girl you're possessing? Is she ok?"
And there it is. The reason that their hearts dance whenever his around. He has no idea who this girl is, what her role is too him, yet he still, her worries for her.
"He hasn't changed has he?" The forest sage asked fondly.
'I wouldn't want him to…' Faore smiled.
"Yes she is fine. My possession has no effect on her."
Link nodded, a small weight lifted form his shoulders.
"So are going to lead me…to where I need to go?" He keep his distention vague, the twilight realm is rather taboo in the realm of light.
"Getting to the twilight realm is not something so straight forward as jumping through a portal, now that the mirror is destroyed." Saria walked a head as she spoke, shocking Link with her knowledge.
"The realm of light and the realm of dark will always be connected. They are more than just two sides of same coin; more than twins. They are the same person in every way with one singular difference that is skin deep." She walked forward, deeper into the woods.
Link gave his stead a look of worry. Who returned the same look with one of her own. Reluctantly they fallowed as she continued to speak beyond her visual age.
"The powers of light and the powers of dark. That is the difference; the power they use. It is that reason for why the realms must be sealed off together."
"Because if they met one would destroy the other?" Link asked pushing a low hanging branch out of his and Epona's way.
"Because if evil hands were to grasp them even the gods them self's will have trouble stopping them." The quick chilling way those words left the girls lips nearly made Link stop in his tracks.
"That is why there are seals in place to prevent other's form entering either realm. Like letting the sages and the queen of the realm being able to control or destroy them completely." Siara didn't stop in her trek, continuing her speech. "However, there are ways to open these doors."
Link tried to fallow the flow of the conversation as well as her but he started to notice him as pass the same rock and the same low overhanging branch in the pass ten minutes they have been walking. He was starting to worry if they were in going in the right direction, or if this sprit was even guiding him and not trying to get him killed.
"There are also ways of protecting them, like this forest." As if reading his mind Saria, turned the point of her talk.
"What do you mean?" Link asked.
"You've noticed it haven't you? That there is nearly no life in these woods? Or how the sun has yet to move above us even though we have been in this forest for three hours?" She gestured to the canopy above them to prove her point.
"T-three hours but…" Link, still fallowing the sprit, looked up as well and held his breath. He remembered the sun was slightly dipping low in the early afternoon. Yet if three hours truly have passed then the sun should lower, even if only ten minutes passing would have had some effect on the cat looking cloud he saw before coming here. It was still in the same spot.
"How-but-"
"Time has no meaning here." She turned to him speaking an old woman who knows more about the world then the gods themselves. "And ancient forest called the lost woods is similar to this. However unlike those woods where if you are lost you become a monster, these woods will only keep you here for all of time. It is like walking done a long hallway with the same picture on the walls. You will keep walking, not until you die, but until your sanity finally slips and you kill you self to escape."
"So…as soon as walked in here I've been trapped?" The thought made the hero pale for the first time in his life.
"No. As soon as you started this quest your fate would have been sealed. If not for meeting me." She let the gravity of the situation sink in.
"So," He looked around to see if there was any exits, yet only to see more green and trees. "I need a spirit to guide me?"
"Yes." She resumed her walk. Link and Epona followed suit. "Without being form the sprit realm you would have been lost here."
In the front of a stone wall, Siara finally stopped. It was nothing but that however. A gray stone wall with a single triangle and sign of farore on the wall; a gust of wind. Below that was a hand print imbedded into the stone. There nothing else to note of the location. The woods and greens gripped and wrapped the stone yet there was no sign of age or damage to the stone even though it must have been here for centuries. Just like saira said; time has no power here.
"This is the first barrier." Siara motioned to the stone wall. "Only the blood of the hero can open the door."
Link looked at the tall ominous door, the feeling off an odd power from it. However he looked at Saria with a little discouragement.
"You said the power of the hero is the only way to open the door right? But when I went to get the master sowrd." He pointed to the blade, "The guardians there tried to stop me. I…don't have the power of the hero."
The spirit however shook her head. "The power to hold the master sowrd is not yours, it is a right given to you by the goddesses. You, the hero, your blood, your power, is your own. No god can take that form you."
Link looked at his left hand, the place of his birthmark. True enough, his mark is still there. It may not glow with the power of the gods, it may not shine with heavenly power. But it was still on his left hand. Still his own.
"Link." Her voice turned low, heavy with a warning. "These challenges. These test are not meant to be conquered. They are meant to break anyone who dares try them. Even the hero."
She looked at him as he stared his palm, with burning determination. She wonder why she was even trying to deter him.
"There are monsters guarding the key to each lock to the twilight realm. Each one handpicked by the goddesses themselves. Each one capable of destroying Hyrule."
She explained the monster unrivaled power, and yet he only looked at his palm that has killed hundreds of beast. Truly why is she trying to stop him?
"I...It wouldn't be cowardly to back down…." She couldn't help but blush as how heroic he looked.
Ah, yes the increased beating in her immortal heart whenever she thinks of him. The reason for her being here in the first place.
"No. I am going." His words were fast and strong. "One way or another, I am going to see Midna."
'Saria' wonder if it was oaky to be jealous of a mortal?
Bending down, Link took out a hidden knife in his boot. He used the knife to cut open his hand, him and Saria wincing a little. He placed his bloody hand on the wall. Second later, it lite up in a lite green. The stone wall slowly slide down into the grassy floor. The cave was dark, hallow. As if there was no life within it. Epona gave off a worry whinny, stomping her hooves in nervousness.
The air form the cave felt cold and eerily damp. Link steadied his grip on Epona's reins and gently guide her along with himself deeper into the cavern. The sprit fallowed along, with a little reluctance.
The dark cavern continued downward. It was quiet, even with so many people with him, Link felt a little lonely. Slowly a tiny light glowed, bright fireflies started to float out form the green light. Link watched them float by for a second, wondering where fireflies would come form in such dark cave. The green light grew bright with each step, until it became blinding to Link's eyes that had become used to the darkness of the cave. He blocked his eyes as the crunching of stone and rock became the soft step of grass.
He opened his eyes and a vision of green greeted him. It was a large field of grass a few trees scattered about. The sky to a greenish yellow tone like the time of dusk. Fireflies of many colors floated about, twirling and dancing in the grass and through the trees. They were not in a cave anymore. They were in another world created by the goddess. Link took a small step forward, amazed at the beauty of the place.
"Careful hero." The spirt behind him broke him out of his aspiration. "Remember this place is guarded by a monster created by the goddesses."
Her warning brought Link back to the matter at hand. He was in a monster's home, he can't just walk around admiring the scenery.
He walked cautiously into the field. The grass was long, coming up to his calf. The fire files circled and flew around him harmlessly. Epona watched as a light bug flew around her nose then around link's cap. It is a truly peaceful scene.
The shaking earth destroyed that with a rumble. The rhythmic steps thumped a thundered around them. Epona neighed and whinnied as the impending danger kept getting closer to them. Link tried to calm her down but he failed. Not because Epona wouldn't listen too him. No. It was the hulking monster that was wading through the forest like it was water before them that silenced him.
The black scaled behemoth made the dragon Arogoth look like an ant. It towered over the trees, crushing them under its four massive feet and castle tower thick tail. But what really put Link in a state of distress was not the size of the beast, nor is the devilish yellow serpentine eyes. No it was its eight heads that slither snaked and hissed. The heads of snakes with gleaming gold eyes. A monstrous beast that spew flames form its mouth as it was about to unleash a fire ball. From all eight heads.
"Shit!" Link cursed, quickly hoping on and spurring Epona on as the first boulder sized ball of flames explode a few feet behind them. Then another and another and another. They came a swift rapid succession, the fire licking at Epona's tail as raced in a circle to avoid the beast shots. The fires finally stopped but Link had rode close to the beast hind legs where it stomped causing the earth to rumble and boom around them. Luckily the beast hulky form also added to its weight, making it very slow to move. Something Link took advantage of.
"Alright! Let's go Epona!" He unseated the blade of evil's bane and spurred his steed on. They rode behind the beast ducking under is massive tail as it swung low, grazing Link's hat.
Getting close to its leg he cut and sliced at its black scales. Only for the master sword to bounce off like a stick hitting a rock.
"Wha-"He didn't have time to wonder as the monster finally made its turn and swiped at him with one of its heads. Link bent back on Epona who had duck her own head to avoid the beast maw as they rode under it. Guessing the outside of its skin was too hard, Link aimed for the under belly and stuck his blade up to pierce its stomach. Yet once again, the sowrd was bounce off.
They counted their mile long ride under the beast, emerging form its front. They faced the castle sized monster. All eight of its heads hissing and roaring at them. Not even a single scratch on its gleaming skin.
"The skin is that hard? Alright then!" He took out his bow, noting eight arrows all with hissing tips.
"Hyia!" He spur Epona on, standing on her saddle. A wall of scales wiped at them form its tail. Link jump, landing on the tail and raced up to the monsters heads. Which turned to face him. The monsters blew fire form their mouth, attempting to touch him. He cursed but jump and sidestepped the fireballs that landed on the beast's back. They changed plans and lunged at him, snapping their sowrd sized maws at him.
He weaved through them the jump high to avoid a low chomp form the fifth head. But the beast lifted his head at the last second, fling Link higher into the air. Much to his advantage.
Regaining his balance, he turned in the air aiming all eight hissing arrows at the heads of the beast who want to eat whole.
"Try this!" With expert marksmen ship all eight arrows flew straight into the mouths of beast. Taking out his clawshot he pulled himself back to the ground in a roll to watch his work. The explosion rocked the field, fire and smoke fumed form the eight heads. It staggered a swayed form the blast.
However the victory didn't even last for a second. A fire ball blasted through the cloud of gray. It was Epona's swift running that saved him as the galloped by just in time for him to grab her reins and ride off from the blast. Link watched to his horror as the beast tumbled away without a single scratch.
"How?"
Are its insides made of the same metal? Is this beast immortal? Link was at his wits end. However he still pushed forward. Jumping back on his horse he rode back into the fight, trying to find the monster's weakness.
"The Hydra." Saria spoke the dreaded word in a quite whisper as she watched the hero struggle with the monster. Something she took no joy in.
The sage of the forest however let her worry show. 'A-A hydra!? Farore you hide a beast like this in theses temples!?'
The monster they are talking about is a beast once used in the war with Demines. Cutting of one head only leads to two or three more. Its skin cannot be penetrated with any normal weapons or means.
"Only a goddess's power can kill it." She spoke confirming the sage of her knowledge.
'But this Link can't use anything like that!' The sage yelled to her in worry.
"That the point. Theses task are meant to be impossible to pass." She watched with a wounded, desperate heart as Link and Epona rode around the monster to find some form of weak point. Yet there isn't any.
"There is no blade, mad made or made by the gods that can pierce the hydra's skin. If you cut off one head two more will take its place. The only way to kill it is by piercing its heart." It truly is an impossible task. A task she hopped will stop Link.
'You can't let him go up against something like that! We have to stop this!' The spirt of the forest protested, begging the goddesses to step in.
"We can't." the saying was firm but her voice wavered.
'Are you insane!? He could-'
"I KNOW!" She knows more than anyone how dangerous these challenges are. She along with her sisters made these beast. Placed them in here as guardians. She knows how impossible this task is. "I know. But I…"
Of course she knows. She's the goddesses that made this creature. She placed this behemoth in this temple as a guardian no human is meant to kill or defeat. To protect the gate to the twilight realm. She knows what this monster is capable of. Which is why she allowed Link to enter this place. In body mind and spirit, Farore is a goddess. But at her heart she is a woman. A woman trying to stop the man she loved form loving another but nearly killing him.
It seems no matter what the being, love can make them do crazy things.
Link ducked as another fire ball blazed over his head as him and Epona raced by. He felt the heat burn the tips of his hair. Her growled in frustration. Nothing seemed to work on the beast. No arrows. No bombs. Nothing. Even the blade of evils bane was like shaking a tiny stick at the monster.
'There's got to be a way to kill this thing!' As he racked his brain he didn't noticed the monsters tower thick tail swing as he rode under it.
It was like hitting a moving wall when Link slammed into it. Sailing him off his stead who whinnied and tried to help her rider. But a massive slam of it foot in front of her stopped any chances of that.
With a groan Link shook the lights form his eyes and swiftly got to feet to roll out of the fiery blast that scorched the earth. More than the heat was starting to make him sweat as he glared up at the near castle size reptile. Blades, bombs, nothing. This beast made Ganon and Zant look like ants. And Link looked even smaller. It seemed his journey was already at an end before it even really began.
But he was more than human. And he was not going to be stopped so easily.
The beast raised it maws, flames licking form its mouth as it charged it fiery attack. The other beast, Link, raised his blade to ready to strike. All eight head lunched their searing fire and Link ready his shield to defend himself.
Only For a green shield to block the blast for him.
"Link!"
The young sprit hand her hands held high, her face strained when the beast started to bash and slam on the shield with heads.
"You can't kill this monster! You have to stop!" Convincing him should be easy. This monster is immortal. And can't be killed by pure magic, only true goddess's magic to its heart can kill it. "Please! You can't beat this!"
'Please listen to me!' She begged. She pleaded he would listen to her. 'I Don't what to see you hur!.'
Link looked at the spirt. Tears in her eyes as the monster continued to wail and slam on the shield that was starting to crack. His hurt went out to her. The pan in her eyes made him angry at himself for bring her into to this.
"I am sorry…" The image of her smiling face. Her cheeky laughter. "But I can't quit." Her warm embrace. Her sweet touch. All the things he missed about the twilight princess, made him even stronger.
The grip on the master sowrd tighten. His eyes harden. Death was nothing more than an obstacle now.
"Even when I die I will not stop!" Maybe it was his roar that made the shield break or maybe the goddess couldn't hold her shield up anymore. Either way, it shattered and the beast lunged. Link slashed back at its gapping maw. It teeth clashing with his blade. The heads reared back, and lunched again. Quickly Link shot his clawshot just in time to avoid their slams in the earth.
He grunted in annoyance. Even though he said those words. This truly is an impossible task. How can he cu something he can't cut? Take off a head when there is an infinite amount? Nothing in his arsenal of weapons could match to the power of the gods. He was at the end of his rope.
'Master.'
The voice was soft. Almost a whisper. Clam and logical.
The hero quickly whipped his head around to find the voice and its origin.
'Left your blade high to call upon the goddesses strike. That is the only way to kill this monster.' The voice seemed to be in his head but not there at all.
Then it hit him. A strange energy form the blade of evil's bane. He looked at the sowrd. It didn't glow or shine, but if felt different. Something had been unlocked. Just like at the time he took the weapon form the temple of time.
A mighty bellow lunched Link out of his day dreaming. The fangs of the beast tickled his hat.
"HA!"
However they were quickly repelled by the little spirit. Her brow dripping with sweat.
'Da-darn it!' She cursed. 'I can't use my full strength like this!' Being only in the body of a spirit, the goddess couldn't use her full power not because she didn't want to reveal herself to him, but because she would destroy the age she was housing.
"Link! Get out of there!" She begged, pleaded the young hero to forgo his quest and forget his quest.
Yet he only stood firm.
'Master….' The voice in his head spoke with concern.
"Alright…" With quite calming breath he silenced all sound. No monster. No fire. No wind. No space. And no time.
A dark cloud started to form in the sky. Thunder boom and screamed in the background. Lighting flashed. Striking the ground violently.
Saria watched in awe as the world that she created turned into a storm. And the cause of it stood calm. The wind yelled blasted around him. But it was never rough with him. Never acting out. It merely circled around him like a cloak. So in tranced by the effect, the power, she forgot to concentrate on the green shield.
With a powerful head-butt form all eight heads, they shattered the goddess's merger shield. They all recoiled form the hit but they stuck back twice as fast.
He shot the blade up, point high into the sky as the storm swirled, reaching its peak.
Pure light blue lighting shot down straight into the master sowrd. And straight into Link.
"AARRGGGHHHH!" He yelled. The pain wasn't even close to god like. It was like his bones shattering and burning all at the same time. His skin boiling with unrivaled hit. But he didn't bugged nor move.
Light form him and the sowrd illumined and glowed so bright the hydra to a step back in surprise. The goddesses blocked her own eyes in disbelief.
"Impossible!" she yelled out. "He shouldn't even be able to use that power. It will kill him!"
But to Link death was an obstacle. And all obstacles are meant to be conquered.
The powerful redirected itself into the sowrd.
The Hydra readjusted it's self for another strike. Lunging all eight of its fierce heads at once.
'Master!' Spoke the voice again. 'Aim for its center! It's heart! You will only get one shot at this!'
The jaws of the heads, ready to rip Link to pieces yelled and raged.
"HAAAAAAAA!"
Link swung the blade down. The lighting flowing it in vicious arch.
A thunderous wave of electricity soared forward like an arrow never slowing down as the sliced though the scaly behemoth. As if the blade had cut and cleared the skies, the dark hellish storm dissipated. Clearing the air once more.
The body of the monster froze. Its mouths hanging open. A few sparks of thunder tickled and twitched around the body. Then it body split. Have way down the middle the Hydra's body crumpled in a bloody hemp.
Link himself feel to his knees. Taking in the sweet precious air that seemed to elude him. The master sowrd was the only thing keeping him from falling on his face. Epona had raced to him. Worried about her master, nudging her head to his to comfort him.
"Good…girl." He panted out a smile. Patting her nose weakly in affection.
Saria however was beyond shell shocked. Beyond stunned. The goddesses of will and human spirit became a stone of disbelief.
'He…he shouldn't have been able to do that…' The sage of the forest voiced her thoughts.
There are a lot of things Link wasn't to do. He wasn't meant to turn to a wolf. He wasn't meant to get so close to the twilight. He wasn't meant to fall in love with the twilight princess. And she wasn't meant to fall in love with him.
For some reason she remembered something her sister Din said to Nayru. It was their first eon of being created, and Din made a startling but interesting statement.
'You know sis. You may be the creation of law and order. But to create a peaceful world with creatures that will evolve and grow, were going to have to break a few of your cute little laws.'
The basis of humans. Breaking boundaries. It is the essences of Link is. However this is more than breaking a few laws.
This is shattering and stomping on their remains.
The body of the dead Hydra slowly grew and changed into another felid of grass. Going back to the earth like all things. Roses budded form it massive teeth. Fresh saplings spurted form it's claws. Just like everything else in this world.
A stone wall rose form the ground a few yards away from them. Link, still drained form the massive attack, looked at the wall with weary yet determined eyes.
The wall was the same as the one he encountered before he entered this temple. The same symbol and the same imbedded hand print.
It didn't take long for link to figure out what to do next. Weakly he stood and walked to the stone wall. He repeated the process at the wall before, cutting his hand a little and pressing his palm on the wall. The ground shook violently for a full minute until it stopped.
He looked around for some clue to what happened bit found nothing. He turned the sprit asking her what had happened.
"What…just happened? Did that do something?"
The 'sprit' only stared. Shocked. Stunned. Flabbergasted. There is nothing else but pure unbelief that can describe her. She blinked dumbly for a second. Gazing at the hero who was battered but not beaten.
"Ah? Um Yes that." She shook her head to regain her composure. "You um. You unlocked the first seal to the portal."
"Ok." He nodded as he and Epona started walking back to the entrance. "Then let's head to the next one."
'Um your highness? Miss Farore?' The sage of forest tried to jostle the goddess. 'Are you ok?'
She shook her head, getting back in her right mind. "Ah. Wait you can't-"
"Are you ok?" Link lowered himself, looking the goddess and the sage in her deep green orbs. The poor girls blushed deeply. "I am sorry you had do that. It looked like it hurt."
"Ah-ah um I-I am fine!"
'Too close! His face is too close!' Farore shrieked in her mind while Saria merely rolled her eyes at how the goddess acted like a little girl. But she understood her heart as her won is beating just as fast. He just looks so much like him.
"Are you sure?" He asked even though he was a little scared himself.
"Yes. But you should be more worried about yourself." She mustered to his wounds. His clothes were a little burnt, and has a few scratches. "You should be resting. Taking out that monster most have taken a toll on you."
"I am fine." He was lying to himself. Whatever that move he did with the master sowrd drained him but he had to press on. Nothing is going to stop him.
"No. You're not." The sage goddess stomped in front of him. The eyes of a towering green forest burned in him with a worrying glare. "You have to rest Link."
She placed her hands on her hips. Glaring up at him even though he towered over her. Even though he had just defeated a monster stronger than anything he has faced, those stern eyes made him hesitant in his movements. The eyes reminded him of how Ulla scolded him whenever he got in trouble.
A harsh snort and a whinny form Epona caused him to rub his the back of his head in defeat. He was stopped two times over.
"Alright let's rest somewhere then."
She smiled warmly at him, "Great. I know a good place for us to get some rest." She turned to lead them through the woods of no time. Looking up at the sky. He saw it. A cat look cloud hovering above them.
"Doesn't look like we're going anywhere eh girl?" Rubbing Epona's snout he fallowed the tiny sage deeper in the woods.
The desert heat was not a powerful as the time Zelda came here with Link and Midna. Ture winter is on its way but the breeze felt nice and cool in the summer heat. Opposite of the dry air it normally blows year around. Even though she is in her royal dress, she barely sweated. It all felt wrong. It was if the desert itself was making her own journey easier.
Even her ride on her stead was nearly a nothing more than a morning ride. No monsters. No obstructions. Even those two clowns that control the cannon gave her a free ride. Even though they didn't know who she was before. It was all rather odd since the woman had visited her in her study. However that still did make her any more tired than her two day ride and being shot form a cannon.
Trekking the sands is no easy task no matter the advantages you have. Heading to the north the princess remembered that Link had told her about the great fairy spring on a small island in this sea of sand. She planned to use that area to rest and hopefully find him too. Link is a smart man. Cunning and deadly.
This all made her truly skeptical. The blue haired woman, this little journey that seemed all too easy. It all didn't feel right.
'Thinking about this in this heat will not help.' She eyed the small platform that held the fairy fountain. 'I'd better rest before continuing on.' And if her hunch was right, find a clue where Link has gone.
The inside of cave was cool. A refreshing change of pace form the burning heat of the outside. She could feel the magic in the cave. The will-o-wisp flew and flowed out of the middle of the fairy spring. She walked down the steps to the spring to a quick drink form it.
"What are you doing here, princess?"
The harsh voice made Zelda jump. She looked to find the great fairy leering at her, hovering over the spring in all her grace. She had heard the stories Link had told her about the beautiful fairy. However standing in front of her she realized none of them did her any justice. Yet it is all marred by the scowl on her face.
Zelda wasn't off put by her sudden appearance, she merely bowed with great respect. "Great fairy. I am here to ask if you know anything about the chosen hero." The princess is regal and polite as always.
"He-"
"And what makes you think I will tell you?" The great fairy narrowed her eyes in near distaste. Zelda wavered in her stance, surprised by the glare she was receive.
The great fairy glided over to her, but with her stern posture and demanding aura, it looked like more of a march than a graceful glide.
Zelda tried to explain her situation. "Well-"
"What right do you have to even enter my domain without my permission? What makes you think you can come here and partake in my spring?" Her voice was patronizing, yet oddly hurt and strong. "Is it your 'divinity'? Your birth right to come in my home and take whatever it is you desire?"
Zelda took a step back from the angry fairy. Confused at why such intent is pointed at her. The fairy noticed the bewilderment and confusion and eased off.
'Ah...what I am doing?' Navi stepped back with regret. This is not the same person. She looks the same but it is not her. Sighing she turned back to the spring, and sat above it in mid-air to rest.
"I…apologize. My anger is not pointed at you." She sighed again, placing her hand on her forehead.
Zelda let her confusion show with her brow raised. She had heard that the great fairy is a calm and gentle woman. What she had just experience was someone out to take her head, and now she is hover over the spring in regret.
"I…think it is…" The burning in her eyes. The complete dislike. It was all directed to her.
The fairy did not answer. Turning her head in shame, Zelda apologozed. "If…if it is something I have done to offend you…I am sorry."
Navi looked at the princess of destiny, eyes of surprise then they softened as she laughed lightly. A small morbid laugh.
"Ah…it seems, no matter the timeline, I can never defeat you…." There is some humor in that.
Now Zelda is completely confusion. Something that doesn't happen often. "I don't understand. Defeat me?"
She looked at the princess. Like Link before she now had a choice of relieving a secret of the goddess or keeping the cog in the gears of in the right direction.
"…..How do you feel about the chosen hero? How do you feel about Link himself?" The question was sudden. And as random as it could be.
"I…"
Love him. That was the next words that wanted to come from her. But there is a pause. Whenever the topic of Link came into play her feelings became cloudy. A part says she loves him more than anything. She wanted to be with him until the end of their days. Another side loves him too. But it was a more tame love. A love to see him happy. A love that wanted him to fallow his path with or without her.
She has two different types of love for him. However she doesn't know which one is real. All she want's is for Link to enjoy the peace he created.
"I…I just want him to be happy." Zelda continued. "He's been through a lot and I just want to him to enjoy the things that were taken away from him."
"Hmmm…" Navi chewed on the princess words. Wondering how truthful they really are.
"You must know that you're destines are intertwined." The great fairy spoke. "This isn't the first time you two have joined together to defeat Ganondof. Before this land was known as Hyrule, it was a land of demons and war."
Zelda listened intently to the story, "The goddess Hyila saved the land by reincarnating herself in human form and joining with her chosen champion to defeat the demon king Demies. However the evil king did not die without leaving a curse on the hero."
As she spoke the fairies around her, her sister's and children, floated and circled around the cave. The dull pink lights danced around the walls and reflected on the surface of her spring.
"That curse tied them together for all eternity. He will never fully disappear as long as Link's blood line lives on." She allowed one of her children to dance across her hand. "To fully defeat this monster it would be simple as to end the hero's life as it will also end Demies constraint reincarnation?" Her gentle eyes fallowed the young fairy. It gilded on the tips of her finger, fallowing her motions.
"However the goddesses decided against such cruelty. She decided another plan would be more effective to keep the beast at bay. She stayed with the hero on this new land called Hyrule in her human from and assisted him in creating it. Although…." Her eyes became downcast at a distant memory. A memory of a young boy, becoming a man right before her eyes. "Maybe the real reason for that is because she fell in love with him…"
There was long pause that allowed Zelda to take in all this information. She knows most of the history of Hyrule like many queens and kings before her. The tail of Hyila sending her people to the sky, sacrificing her immortally to become human, and helping her chosen to defeat the demon king. However the fact that this goddess is her blood ancestor, that she has the goddess real power coursing through her, made the weight of her duty all the more important.
"Knowing it would take more than just the hero's power, she too copied Demies and allowed her soul to be reincarnated with the hero's. But you know most of this don't you?"
The princess nodded her head in confirmation.
"Of course." Navi spoke like it was a fact of life. Since it is. "But what you don't know is that the goddess was unknowingly selfish." Navi remembered every smile they shared, every grimace he made, all the love ones he was forced to push aside.
"For this plan to work Link and the goddess most produce at least one child to caring on their combine power so that child can produce another and another until the time for the chosen hero draws near. At a glance, it is a sound plan. But…" The pool of the lake showed a small blue light in hers. And blue light that showed a younger, more hopeful version of her. A part of her she lost.
Zelda watched the fairy whose mood became more somber as time went on. The fairies around her swarmed gently, as if trying to comfort her.
"..Malon. Saria. Ruto. Naburoo. Lana. Cia. Irene. I suspect you do not know the names of these women?"
Zelda nodded her head to the obvious question, allowing Navi to continue.
"These are all women who have had a great impact on shaping each hero in every time or dimension he has been in. But they also have something else in common."
"These are all women who fell for the chosen hero."
"Nothing really odd though right? The hero is a rather popular young man and is the perfect lover for anyone. Whether it be a thief, a witch, or ….a long time friend."
"But still don't you think it strange? These women, who have helped the hero just as much as the princess, why are they not mentioned in the stories of old?"
Navi looked at Zelda with smile. Yet it was not a kind one. If gave off an aura of anger? Or maybe a mix of anger and regret?
"Would you like to know what happened to them Zelda?"
Not having much of a chose she nodded.
Navi looked far into the distant at lonely farm. "Malon married, but it was not a happy one. Sure her lover provided for her, yet she could see him in same eyes as her first love. He eventually died, leaving her a widow, with a farm and an empty heart." The light of her faries dancing around her seemed to speed up with every word.
"Ruto never married, becoming the first Zora queen to only marry to produce an heir. And that was because she was forced to by her people. Even if she was a great queen." Her eyes then turned to her spring. Imaging a proud queen, with a crying soul.
The fairies spun faster.
Navi grinned, as retelling these stories of broken heart. Shattered dreams. These stories of tears were enjoyable. Yet, if so, then why was her grin so sad? "Irene became the greatest witch in all of Hyrule. Creating potions and magic better than anyone. Yet she never took a husband. Forced to watch the only man she every cared about ignore all her work and marry another woman who did partially nothing while he was fighting all the monster and beast in the world alongside her."
The fairies became a glowing tornado.
"Do you know what she did to quell her anger?" The smile on Navi's face is anything but kind. Zelda didn't even have time to nod before she answered. "She tried to poison the queen and take Link for her own. Although she was only exiled for a consequences, death would have been a better alternative then seeing the man she cared for in the arms of another woman."
Rage. Pure unbridled rage of light roared through the cave.
"Oh oh she is not the worst however." Navi's smile became larger, sadist even. "The great time witch Lana, a witch chosen by Hyila herself to watch over the world, fell in love with the hero. However even knowing her role, she could not help but felt the sting of jealousy form watching him be taken by you over. And over. And over. And over. Like dangling an apple in front of a starved victim, and devouring it every time. For all eternity."
"So Ganon took control of that, splitting her soul in two with his dark magic. Forcing her, using her as a tool to attack Hyrule. And do you know what her precious hero did? The one she loved above all?"
"He killed her other half. Without mercy. Without hesitation. And without any care for her." There was a slight laugh at end of the Cia's death.
"All under the order of the princess. Because who could disobey you? It's is your destiny to rule. Your birth right to take him as yours every time. Push him form everything and everyone he knew because it's your 'destiny' to be together…." She did not spit out destiny. She did not hate it. She merrily wished it never existed.
"Saria…." Navi's wings dropped. Her fiery expression faded. The light form the fairies died as they slowed their flaming dance to a slow crawl.
"His best friend. The only woman who has known him more than his own mother…."
"She helped through all his bad times. Motivated him to become the man who be a legend. And yet even she was not immune to fate's curled bloodied knife."
"He would visit her…Almost every day….and they would talk. She would smile. And he wouldn't notice. Not the pain it was to see him every day. Not the pain of her tears every night. Not her untouched ocarina that he returned to her….."
While in the air, Navi leaned back. Looking up at the ceiling above her. Reaching up as if to grasp at a lost soul.
"Age. Looks. Status. Race. She didn't care for it all. As long as she be with him. Love him like woman," She reached higher. Higher for missing light. "She would give up everything…."
But, closing her hand she knows she can never reach it. Not matter how hard she tired. "But the world cared. The goddess cared. So she put on a brave face. Until his old age got to him. Until he was buried in the castle of Hyrule."
She smiled, bitter and somber. "She never got to see his funeral…"
"That was theme for all of them you know?"
"He would visit them. Talk to them. They would smile. And he wouldn't even notice the pain in their eyes. The sadness in their heart."
"Malon would only smile when he was around. Jokingly tell not to forget about his horse. Even though she knows he's forgotten about her. Ruto would flirt, asking him if he would be ok of taking in two wives. He would laugh. Not knowing how serious she was. They only time these women are at peace, is when he was near. That is the cruel fate thrusted upon many of the women of this world and others like it. Forced to watch as you take what isn't rightfully you're to begin with. As you take and stab the hearts of many." The fairies began their dance again as Navi glared at this 'kind noble.' At this 'wonderful woman'. At this…'Princess.'
"Yet can you blame them for their anger? You, the princess of an entire kingdom could have everything you ever wanted. Yet you have taken the one thing that was meant for everyone to have a chance at."
Fairies are meant to sooth in this world. But Navi's smile, the small gently cruel smile, did nothing but send shivers down Zelda's spine.
"My. How selfish and cruel you are…." The great fairy glided down to the princess. And epmraty being closer to a goddess then anyone on Hyrule, gracefully, step by beautiful step, without even touching the ground, strode up to Zelda.
She was frozen in both fear and amazement. Her words, harsh heavy and cruel, came out like verses to a hymn. Her steps made her float on air. Yet her eyes held a gentle fire. That will burn her. Incinerate her. Gently. Softly. With no pain.
A smooth hand cupped her cheek. Sharp blues met even shaper violets. Her touch, cool and warm. Relaxed and healed al her troubles and sorrows.
"And yet none this is truly your fault…" Navi smile was bitter but not cold. None of her negative emotions were pushed onto Zelda anymore. "We have no control with the flow of fate and time. The three goddesses push you and the hero together regardless of the situation."
The bright emerald eyes glowed with that same sadness. "If you were to know this…If you knew the pain you caused. You would have renounced your crown just to make everyone happy." She spoke as she wasn't speaking to Zelda. But at the same time she was. "That is not the power of the goddesses. That pure kindness is something of your own design."
As Navi drifted back to her spring other fairies glided to Zelda and stared circling around her. They are different form the light purple lights of the others. They came in red, blue, even a bright yellow.
"That is why this hero is so interesting. And why the goddess are so bent on stopping him." As the princess watched the fairies fly around her Navi continued to speak. "If he and the twilight princess were to marry and conceive a child, the cycle may just be broken."
A single fairy, a blue one, hovered by her while the other left to rejoin the queen in her spring.
"What will you do now princess?" Navi asked as she watched the fairy paly with Zelda. "With this knowledge, what will be your new goal?"
Zelda looked at the tiny blue light in her hands. She was just told her past, present and future. The choice she will make could change everything. Or leave it the same.
Being granted the Triforce of wisdom does not give one infinite knowledge. Nor does it grant one the power of precognition. It merely gives the user the power to decide. To make making a choice easier. To see what is the most logical and best choice for the current situation. Seeing the choices laid before her, Zelda made the obvious choice.
"I will find Link and Midna to see what we can do about this." Her blue eyes shined with an odd determination that was reflected in the light of the blue fairy.
"I see. Then, although it may not be needed, that little one will guide you to where you need to go." She pointed at the blue ball as it lit up and spun around in happiness in the princess palms. "She is young, but very bright. She will guide you well."
"Thank you." Zelda's busy was done here. She has her heading, and her goal. But something kept her here. A lingering question.
"If you have any other questions please feel free to ask." Navi, with her omnipresent mind, read Zelda's dancing feet.
The queen was silent for a while. Wondering if these question is something sure should ask the queen of fairies.
"Did you…love the hero too?" After a while she asked what was weighting her mind. "The way you spoke, it sounded like you knew all of it. As if you were there seeing everything."
Navi grew quite. Closing her eyes, smiling at the adventure she had. That bright face of his. How soothing his songs on the Ocarina were. How brave he was. How handsome he was. And how naive she was back then.
"I was young back then princess. I was young and a fool. I had known of the goddesses plan. I had told myself every lie in the book. Form fate to our difference in species. And yet…."
A lavender tear slowly fell. Dropping into her spring. Making Zelda wonder. If that spring is natural. Or if it is made from tears of a great fairy.
"The only thing I could do was let my tears heal my soul."
"You are right, great fairy." Zelda said. "I may not know what my ancestors may be thinking. But had either of had known of the pain we are causing, I would have done anything to stop it."
"Haaa…" Navi sighed but it was not a sigh of anger or annoyance. She had grin, a young youthful grin, as she sigh in humor. "As I said before, not matter the timeline I can never defeat you princ-Zelda."
Bowing Zelda prepared to make her leave, "Thank you for everything Great Fairy."
"Be well Zelda." She watched as the princess left her spring.
"I wonder." She asked a yellow fairy that was dancing her finger tip, "What will history say in the next one hundred years?"
While the conversation with Navi is my favorite part of the story, and yeah I know she wasn't there for Lana, Cia, or Irene's thing, but I don't fallow much, and I like to think as all the great fairies as omnipresent, I almost felt as if I was beating up on poor Zelda. None this shit is her fault, and I love our little princess. Just comparing as a love interest to a pirate, a group of female thieves, mermaid, a farm girl, a dark princess, a witch, two time witches, and everyone else makes her bland as all heck. But the crazy ZeldaXLink purest fans that think Link can only bone anything blonde blue eyed and with 'da' at the end of her name, make more interest characters like Cia, Lana, Ruto, and/or Irene not even exist.
But I not going to rant about this. That was just me venting a bit about dumbness of some fans. If you want to hear rant on about it like a twit, just PM me or message me on Tumblr. And I know you guys want to see Midna, but this was going on too long and I'll just start off with her in the next chapter. Also because updating takes a year and f #ken centaury for me, I'll be shorting my story to 15 pages minimum instead of: "Is 30 pages enough? Nah lets add ten more!" So if a story is a 15 pages and has enough to stand on its own as a chapter then were off to races.
Now Cloud:
Awesome idea. Glad his in. And all those people complain about that death battle video between him and Link and shut it and just smash it out. And yes I will be putting him in a story with captain green hat. They are my two favorite swordsmen, you bet I am putting those two dorks in a story together. When? Eh maybe next month. If I am lucky.
Linkle:
Cute. Adorable. Great addition to the Zelda family. But not female Link. But is female Link. Look that whole thing is about a five pages of discussion so I won't get into it here. If you want to know what I really think, PM me or just ask me on Tumblr. Basically, I love her so far, can't wait to play her, this is the step in the right direction of Nintendo, and yes I will be using her in stories.
Xenoblade Chronicles X:
Yes. It's long. Yes I love it. Yes I will be doing stories about it. Yes the main hero in my stories will be an original character. No he, and/or she will be based off my customized character in the game. No. I will not be fallowing the main plot. I don't know if I'll put a harem element or not for my character in the story. Yes. I will be using Lin as a love interest. Yes I know she is 13.
Spoiler alert: I. DON'T. CARE. And you won't too after chapter 5. Or the fact that realism was shot out of a bloody cannon into a super nova along with its sh! #y brother boring in the first paragraph of the narrative. Or the fact that she fights things that would make even Link think twice, and is more mature then any real 13 year old. Or 50 year old. Or chapter F &KEN 5. Seriously I cannot stress enough as to how that chapter slapped in the face, kick me in the nuts and said "Hey hope you have enough brain matter to understand the next seven chapters!"
Here are my favorite characters. Female: 1st-Lin and Elma 2nd –Irina 3rd-Aleixa and Mia 4th-Murdress
Male: 1st- Gwin, Vamham, Lao2nd- L 3rd-H.B
(May change as I get deeper in the game so far at chapter 6)
You may see a story from me in December. Along with Sneak peek at a big new SamusXLink story. Did I just shamelessly ask you to read my Xenoblade story just to see a new one? Yes. Do I feel any shame? Yes. The same about of shame Link dose when he smashes a pot and get 20 rupees.
