And now we come to the end of our tale. It took a long time to write and will most likely be read in the course of a few hours at most. Haha. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it.

The treasure room. How will they get out of this mess? The King himself found them!

Chapter Twelve: Until We Meet Again

"Run." Nate said, nodding to Mihael. They ran, with arrows and spears flying their way as he escaped up the stairs.

"Stop them!" They heard the King roar. Nate reached the top of the steps and opened the door, slamming it shut behind him. Mihael looked around anxiously and then gasped as Nate grabbed his wrist, pulling him along through the hall. As they ran, their hoods fell off and exposed their heads, but Nate didn't bother to pull his back on, his ears shifting as they ran.

"Nate…I'm running out of breath. Can we stop?" Mihael asked after they had been running around a loop going farther up a little while.

"Not much farther." Nate promised, and an arrow flew between his ears, prompting him to go faster.

"White Rabbit!" The King roared. "Stop this instant!"

"Yeah, right." Nate rolled his eyes at the absurd order and kept on running. "Doomed if I do and doomed if I don't, so I'd rather keep doing what I'm doing." He muttered.

They finally reached a door that was tightly locked and Nate stopped, pulling out the key from his pocket. Jamming it into the lock and turning it, he turned the doorknob and pushed the door open, pulling Mihael in. Then he slammed it shut, the arrows piercing the door as he locked it.

"What now?" Mihael asked, looking around the room. There were treasure chests all over, but the thing that stood out was a tall, thin object in the center of the room.

It was to this object that Nate approached, throwing off the cloth to reveal a large mirror adorned with jewels, with a slit on the right side. Beside it, on a little table, was a jewel-encrusted knife that had some markings on the blade. He picked up the knife, reading the markings silently.

"Nate, they're going to get in!" Mihael cried, looking at the locked doorknob rattling.

Nate nodded and then Mihael gasped as Nate removed the sheathe of the knife. "Alright. Let's be quick, then." He pieced the palm of his hand and raised his hand up over the knife, blood dripping onto the blade and coating the markings.

"Nate?!" Mihael cried.

"Blood of my people, blood of my land." Nate spoke softly, a language Mihael could not understand escaping his lips. "Spill from the flesh and into my hand. Open the door to another world, and plunge inside like a thirsty sword." He then pulled his hand away and shoved the blood-covered blade into the slit. The mirror rippled and began to glow, both Mihael and Nate covering their eyes.

"Nate, what's going on?" Mihael cried, moving closer to him.

The glow faded, and Mihael could see his garden on the other side, Dinah taking a nap by the tree. Mihael gasped and turned to Nate, smiling. "That's my home! That's my home, Nate!"

"I know." Nate said, pulling out a handkerchief and tying it around his still-bleeding palm. "You can go home."

Mihael nodded, walking towards the mirror. A sudden thought came to him and he paused, turning to Nate. Throwing his arms around the boy, he gave him a kiss on the nose and cheeks, then a light peck on the lips. Drawing back, he grinned and went to the mirror. "When things are better, come and find me! I'll be waiting!" He said, waving. "Until we meet again, White Rabbit!"

And then he was gone, and the mirror was just that, a mirror. Nate silently pulled out the blade, now clean of blood, and set it on the table. Then he turned to the door as it was busted open, soldiers pouring into the room. 'Until we meet again.' He thought, as the King approached him.

The End (Or is it…?)

Well, wasn't that fun? Now you gotta wait for me to write the sequel to find out what happens next. XD
