Chapter 6: The Funeral
Lucy's POV:
"Are you sure you want to go with this?" Loke asked me.
"Yes, I'm sure. I want that bitch Melody pay for killing Natsu." I responded.
Loke and I were in the middle of the woods. I decided that I was going to spend a few weeks camping out there. I was going to work on my magical strength as well as my physical strength.
"Lucy, think about this. It could be dangerous."
"No, I'm one hundred percent sure that I want to do this. I would like to temporarily cancel my contracts with all of you for a month."
"Ok Lucy. But if you feel like you need any of our help, come over to Fairy Tail. I might hang out there until the month is over."
"Ok Loke." I said.
Loke nodded and then walked away, leaving me all by myself in the woods.
Lisanna's POV:
Master Makarov had a funeral planned out a week after Erza, Gray, Lucy, and I announced Natsu's death to the guild. Today was the day of the funeral. When I opened the door to the church, hot air greeted me. Inside of the church was packed. It was as if half of Magnolia were in there. As I walked around the church, I looked to see who had come. Almost everyone from Fairy Tail were there. Lucy was the only person not there. Also I saw that mages from other guilds, like Blue Pegasus and Lamia Scale were there. I even saw Sting and Rogue, the Twin Dragons of Sabertooth, in the back with their exceeds.
I walked to the front of the sanctuary and sat down next to Erza.
"Hey Erza." I said as I sat down next to her. "Where's Lucy?"
Erza turned over to face me. "Lucy's not coming. She said that she was going to leave the guild for a couple of weeks so she could train."
"Oh. Well I hope she doesn't push herself too hard while she's training." I said.
"Don't worry. She's got Loke and the other celestial spirits with her." Erza reassured me with a smile.
I smiled back at Erza and then turned around to the front of the church. The funeral was starting now. Master Makarov was slowly making his was to the podium in the pulpit. The church went silent as he tapped the microphone and cleared his throat.
"Mages of Magnolia," he started. "We are all gathered here today in honor of one of Fairy Tail's oldest and most beloved member. Natsu Dragneel."
Master Makarov paused after he said Natsu's name. He and everyone in the church all took a deep breath. Some people started sniffling and a few sobs were coming from the back of the church.
Master Makarov took in another deep breath and then continued. "Natsu was only a little boy when he joined the guild. He didn't know where else to go, so he called Fairy Tail his home from the moment he walked in. And he called all of us his family. He cared about all of us. He had a fighting spirit and no matter how bad things got, he would continue to fight for his family. He had big goals for the guild, and for himself. Unfortunately, Natsu passed away before he could complete them. However, Natsu did not give up when he died. He spend his last moments fighting for his family. And even though Natsu didn't accomplished all the things he wanted to do in his life, he accomplished something important. That was never giving up and fighting for his family until the very end. Thank you."
Master Makarov did a small bow and walked back over to his seat next to Mirajane. Everyone applauded as he walked to his seat. Well, everyone except Sting, who was crying hysterically on Rouge's shoulder. His wailing was almost as loud as the applause. Rogue was trying to comfort him by patting Sting's shoulder.
"It must be really hard for Sting." I thought to myself. He idolized Natsu and when they were just starting to get close, this happened. He must be devastated. Before I got too distracted, I turned my attention back to the funeral and waited for the next person to go up.
~Time Skip~
The funeral lasted for about 2 and a half hours. It went on pretty smoothly. Gajeel and Mirajane both sang, Gray and Juvia said a eulogy together, Sting and Rouge went together too (although Rouge did most of the talking while Sting was still crying). I went up and said a eulogy too. Lucy was supposed to say something too. She had a eulogy typed up, but since she wasn't there I read it for her. I didn't want to leave what she had to say out.
After the service was over, the guild was going to go to the cemetery. Even though they didn't have Natsu's body to bury, there was a grave with his name on it there. They were all going to place flowers on the grave and say there final goodbyes. I didn't know if I wanted to go or not. All of this happened so fast, I'm just not sure if I'm ready to say goodbye yet. As I lingered around the group of people, trying to decide whether I should or or not, I heard a voice call me.
"Lisanna!" said a childlike voice.
I turned around and saw Wendy running towards me. Carla was flying closely behind her. Wendy had her hair tied up in pigtails with a black ribbon and was wearing a short black dress that fell right above her knees. Her her blew behind her as she came closer and closer to where I was standing. When Wendy got up to me she stopped in front of me to catch her breath.
"Lisanna." she panted.
"Hey Wendy." I answered her. "What's up?"
"Oh nothing." she replied. "It's just that I saw you standing here in the middle of everyone all by yourself."
"Oh it's nothing!" I reassured her. "I was just doing some thinking."
"Oh, well.. are you going to the cemetery with the rest of the guild. Carla and I are going. We got these really pretty flowers to put on the gravestone."
Wendy held out a tiny bouquet of flowers. They were light pink roses with a blue ribbon around them to hold the bouquet together.
"They're really pretty." I said, taking a closer look at the bouquet.
"Thank you! Carla helped me pick them out. The pink is for Natsu and the blue ribbon is me wishing he's at peace."
"That's really creative."
Wendy smiled. "Thanks! So, anyway are you coming with all of us."
"Uh.." I hesitated. "I was just thinking about if i should go or not. I don't think I will though. This all just happened so fast, I need some time before I'm ready to actually say goodbye."
"Oh, I understand. I didn't think I was going to come either this morning. But, I talked to Carla a little bit and decided that I should come and do something before I go home. Natsu was always there for me. He was like a big brother to me. After all, he's the one that brought me to the guild when I didn't have a guild to return to."
Wendy's voice started to shake a little bit. " Natsu's done so much for me. I've always wanted to thank him for all he's done, but I can't... now that he's gone. So I figured I could bring some flowers to his grave. It's not much, but it's the least I can do. After he's done so many things for me."
Wendy started tearing up a little. Carla hugged Wendy's side and I bent down to hug her too. Wendy buried her face on my shoulder and continued to cry.
"It's okay Wendy." Carla comforted her. "It's been a long week. Let it all out if you need to."
Wendy sniffled and then lifted her head off of my shoulder. She then wiped the tears from off her face.
"I'm sorry." she apologized and then pointed at my shoulder. "I your dress messed up."
"It's no big deal." I told her. "I'll just wash it off when I get back home. You go off with the rest of the guild. You don't want them to leave you, do you? They're about to leave and you don't want to keep Natsu waiting. I'm sure he'd love the flowers you picked out for him."
Wendy smiled. "Thank you!" she said and started to walk off with Carla and the rest of the guild.
I waved goodbye to her and then started to walk towards my house.
Melody's POV:
The wind blew through my hair as I sat on top of the church roof. I waited until everyone cleared out of the area and jumped off of the roof to the ground below. Then I carefully walked inside of the church to check and see if anyone was there. The stained glass windows reflected colorful light into the sanctuary. No one else was in here except for me and the floorboards. I laughed to myself and then turned back around towards the entrance.
"Phase 1 is complete. Are you ready to move on to phase 2?" I asked aloud.
"Yes. Great work Melody. You did a great job on this mission." a voice replied in my head. It was my guild's master using telepathy magic.
"Thank you!" I said happily. "So who's in charge of phase 2?"
"I don't know yet, but I don't think I'm going to put you in charge again. There might be people after you now that you've shown yourself. Return back to our guild. You don't have any other jobs to do, so you can just hang out if you want to. Just don't get too close to Fairy Tail or anyone form there."
"Okie-dokie!" I replied cheerfully and teleported back to my guild.
Hey! I'm back. I know it's been more than a year since I last updated. A lot has gone on since I last updated this story. I'm in high school now, my mom had a new baby, and a lot of other stuff happened. However, I'm not going to get all into all of that right now. I'm just glad that I'm back and writing again! I know this isn't one of my best chapters. I'm not really emotional, so I didn't really know how to make everyone react to Natsu's death during this chapter (I did know that I wanted Sting to be the one sobbing during the whole funeral though! XD) Anyway I really hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. I know it's been a long time, but I'm going to try harder. I only have a couple of weeks left before my last day of school and I don't have school on Thursday and Friday next week, so it might be awhile before I update again. Next chapter I'm hoping to wrap things up with Lisanna and move onto how Lucy is doing with her training. Please PM me or review if you have any ideas or comments.
