Misa had planned her own ambush, along with her long time friends and partners in cheerleading, to be the least violent and mean out of all of her classmates'. If only because even if they had said her target was tough, she still didn't want to be particularly mean for no reason.

That and she didn't have the abilities or know-how to produce anything much more complex. She only wanted a simple answer and wouldn't actively force him to answer in any case.

The tripwire-to-a-pillow was calculated as best as they could, going for a rough estimate of Negi's height. Unfortunately for the cheerleaders, they'd never been good with numbers and had miscalculated where to put the pillow. When Negi hit the tripwire, he fell chin first on the ground and bit off part of his tongue. Normally, he'd have regenerated from this in an instant, without any ill effects, and he'd have laughed it off and tried to soothe their concerns about hurting him by accident. However, since part of 3-A's plan to have (an attempt at) harmless fun involved stripping Negi of his magic power, his energy leaked out of him before it could be used to regenerate him. Therefore, after biting his tongue, Negi bled out and died right there.

Fate was grumpy about having to restart Cosmo Enthelecheia's plan.
