Tsunayoshi Sawada: Mafia boss-in-training. Whereabouts unknown. Currently running for his life. Or at least trying to.
He remembered Reborn asking for him and the guardians, along with Enma and Xanxus, but Xanxus didn't showed up because... reasons. He remembered having a long talk with the baby about something and everyone being shocked about his revelations. He remembered rejecting the idea, but Reborn had insisted that nothing would happen if they sit idly and twiddle with their thumbs. He remembered stuffing his pills and gloves in his pocket and leaving his Vongola Ring and Vongola Box behind because Reborn said so. He remembered Reborn giving Enma the same pills he had because he couldn't bring the Simon ring with him. He remembered asking about Xanxus, but Reborn had told him that he couldn't and wouldn't show up anymore due to some unexpected business. He remembered getting everyone's approval over the matter and resolving their will to venture forth. He remembered getting a warning from Reborn that perhaps the bazooka would malfunction, giving their bodies some side-effects, but nothing too grave. He remembered using the bazooka, one by one, heading into the unknown.
He remembered everything that transpired before they landed into this place, but no matter how hard he tried, remembering Reborn's exact words were far too difficult. Tsuna thought hard about it, replaying the same scene over and over in his head, but static was the only thing coming out of the baby's mouth. What were they here for? Why were they here? His memory was hazy and the more he tried to remember, the more the static in his head would increase in volume, giving him a migraine.
It was a good thing he didn't forget everything, but still, forgetting their reason for coming after they appeared on the outskirts of a town was rather pathetic. When he asked his friends if they remembered anything, they stated that their memories were hazy and there was a thick fog clouding over their heads. Only then did they notice that there really was a side-effect in their time-travelling.
Their bodies had shrunk to that of a child, along with their clothes (thank God).
Lambo was now a baby while the others were at the age of seven to eight. They were prepared for the consequences, but taking it in at the exact moment of finding it out was almost impossible. Yamamoto had laughed it off, cheering everyone up as he stated that all of them were so cute. The sword on his back now stood like sore thumb, too big to be carried by a child of his size. Gokudera felt baffled to the point that he couldn't hear anything in the background. He didn't know it was possible for someone's body to spontaneously shrink. What about his internal organs? Were they functioning properly? Did they shrink as well? So much theory, so little time. Chrome was surprised that her eye turned back to normal. It didn't bear the scar she received when she got in an accident, but despite the good news, she preferred covering her eye with the eye patch. The girl also noticed that her organs were still the same, but weaker, almost like the supporting illusions were slowly fading. Why didn't her organs return? And how was Mukuro? Were they still connected? Can he still feel her presence? Chrome had to use her strength to create her own illusion organs. It wasn't as strong as the ones Mukuro had for her, but they enough to make her live.
Ryohei didn't seem too bothered about the situation. So long as he had his boxing gloves and his fists, no matter what size he was, he would be fine. It was always good to be optimistic. Enma felt horrified. He wasn't sure what he was horrified of the most, their situation, the fact that they couldn't remember the discussion with Reborn or their current body set. Probably all of them. Hibari said nothing on the matter, merely staring at his tiny hands as he clenched them into fists. He still had the grip, so swinging his tonfa would pose no problem, even in his current form. Tsuna was prepared for the side-effect, but never would he think that it was something like this. He felt like they were in a huge disadvantage somehow. Could he even transform into his Hyper Dying Will mode in this form? He would just have to try and see when the situation called for it.
After getting over their shock, they debated on what to do next. They sat on their thumbs trying to recall what they were supposed to do, but every time they tried, only static would come out in their memory. It was strange. It was on the tip of their tongue, yet remembering his words were far from being accomplished. Could it be another side-effect? Perhaps the bazooka malfunctioned excessively. They weren't even sure if they were in the right place, but how were they supposed to know if they didn't even remember what they were supposed to do? Hibari was starting to feel frustrated. His body, his memories. He felt like he had fallen right into some kind of mouse trap, almost like he was being played at. For now, he would just mentally note to vent on some people when they got back home.
"Why don't we ask around?" Yamamoto had suggested when the children were engulfed in eerie silence. Brooding over it wouldn't get them anywhere and they would just be wasting their time. Tsuna thought so too. He agreed to go around and search for information. Soon, they realized that the action was a bad idea.
When they entered the town, they noticed the people's way of dressing. They looked... noble? If that was the right word. There weren't any cars. Instead, there were carriages, and the people were speaking in a different language that Tsuna barely recognized. Thankfully, Gokudera had explained that they were speaking in Italian, but some kind of dialect that, unfortunately, the bomber wasn't completely familiar with.* He could make out a few words, but that was as far as he could go.
So they weren't in Japan, but in Italy and the era... He wasn't completely sure, but they were definitely in the past, unless Italians normally dressed like nobles? Gowns and top hats? Parasols and fans? A wheeled vehicle, horse-drawn and no limo? Yamamoto laughed at Tsuna's imagination, but Gokudera corrected him, explaining that they were really in the past, pointing out that Italy was not this graffiti-free in their time.**
Going back to their current situation.
Tsuna ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He had tripped many times, but thanks to Gokudera's distractions, he still managed to get up and keep going. Going around asking in town was a bad idea. Or perhaps they were just infested with bad luck and misfortune the moment they stepped into the unknown vicinity.
Chrome had bumped into some man, a wealthy-looking man who had overreacted and fell on his own butt. They knew that the girl's strength was not enough to push down a chump man like him, but the man had complained and started screaming some words at the people, who they deemed as his escorts, behind him.
The escorts took hold of Chrome, who struggled with all her might and hoped not to drop Lambo as they grabbed her shoulders roughly. When that happened, Hibari lost it. He grabbed his tonfa out of nowhere then hit one of the escorts' head before slamming the base of his other tonfa towards the other escort's chin, knocking both unconscious.
They really caused a scene.
The wealthy man on the ground had his mouth gaping open and people passing by stirred and started screaming, yelling incoherent words they could barely comprehend. But then, more escorts came rushing towards them and, having no will to transform or fight in a public area, they resorted to escaping, hoping not to gather more attention than they already had. The last thing they wanted was to have their faces on a wanted sign, after all.
Hibari knocked a few more escorts out, venting on them. He was really pissed. There was no bird to sing the Namimori anthem, or anyone to train with. The Bucking Horse wasn't even present, otherwise he would have someone to vent with. He heard Gokudera calling out to him to retreat, telling him their purpose wasn't to gain attention and have a bounty on their head, so despite the anger swelling up inside because a crowd had started to gather, he followed them, thinking of ways to punish them later for telling him what to do.
'We're really in trouble now, aren't we?' Tsuna thought, who was still thinking about their purpose for being here. Damn it, this trouble was all Reborn and that bazooka's fault! They wouldn't be in this mess if they didn't agree to whatever he was insisting! But he knew too well, he remembered, the expression on the baby's face. He only got to see it when the situation was perilous. He couldn't really blame the hitman since they agreed, but how could they forget now of all times? It was like something was preventing them from remembering.
Shaking the thoughts aside, he realized that running away was their only option for now. Shame, but they had to until they found a safe shelter to rest in and think about their next move.
...
Giotto and his guardians were out in town, patrolling the area as usual. Alaude had reported that lately, there had been pretentious people appearing as nobles and bumping into innocents, exclaiming that they broke a bone and asking for compensation. Whoever they were, they were starting to cause trouble as reports for the case filed in the station were starting to grow thicker.
They thought that going into town themselves would scare them off or at least try the trick on them, but since they were a famous mafia family around the area, no one would risk their life pulling a dirty trick on them. The culprits probably already knew why they were patrolling around the town.
The group passed by a fruit vendor, their leader talking to the lady as he asked for some apples. They looked fresh and sweet. Giotto had somehow engrossed himself in talking with the lady as she gave him three more apples for free, as thanks for always doing their job and protecting the town.
G, on the other hand, had his eyes focused on his surroundings. Something was amiss. There seemed to be a crowd gathered around fountain, but then everyone dispersed at once, giving him a better chance of seeing what was up ahead. There, he saw a man on the ground and two others, who were dressed as escorts, with their faces flat on the ground. The storm guardian stopped one of the passerby's who came from the crowd.
"Hey, what happened over there?" G inquired, releasing the man's shoulder from his grip after he received a greeting from the other.
"Ah, a nobleman fell down when he bumped into these kids. Then he started barking orders at his escorts to capture them. He plans to take them with him, but one of the kids knocked the escorts down and then ran away. Looks like the nobleman called for more escorts and the kids are being chased into the alley. Guess they were just beggars." the man replied, shrugging the last sentence off before walking away after G thanked him politely for the information.
G didn't have the chance to ask Alaude if the nobleman was one of the people he was searching for as the cloud guardian had rushed over to the scene to arrested said nobleman, who seemed confused about the situation. But Alaude had no doubts that this man was one of the criminals who stole money from a noblewoman after he purposely crashed into her carriage then pinned the blame on her.
Giotto had finished his business and G had explained the situation.
"Let's go help the kids. Doesn't matter if they're beggars or not, we have to help." Knuckles declared as they chased after escorts and kids, Alaude following suit when an officer came to arrest the man.
...
Tsuna knew they were done for.
Chrome had exhausted herself too much and collapsed, Yamamoto catching her before she hit the ground, her breathing ragged. Being in a child form had its limits, it seemed. They got tired pretty fast, too. Enma reached his limit as well as he ran slower this time, panting, but stopped on his heels when Chrome collapsed, catching Lambo to prevent him from touching the ground.
They were still in town, but the area was isolated, so without further ado, Hibari, Gokudera and Ryohei turned back, weapons ready and charged at the escorts. Thanks to Hibari's venting earlier, their numbers had decreased, so finishing them off didn't take them a lot of time. Heck, Hibari alone was enough to finish them all. Gokudera prevented himself from using bombs, as to not attract anyone in the area, so he got a pipe that was lying around and used it to bash their enemies while Ryohei used his fists, screaming 'EXTREME' every time he knocked one out. Hibari got annoyed at that and thought of plundering the sun guardian along with their enemies, but Gokudera had predicted the action and stopped him in time.
Seriously, the bomber had gotten in his way too many times today. Perhaps it was time for him to learn his lesson, a bashing lesson. Well, whatever. He managed to vent on these people, so for now, he would just have to say he was satisfied.
Tsuna was thankful his legs got him this far. He had to wonder how Gokudera and the others looked fine after that long run. Chrome and Enma were in the same boat as him and he was glad, in a way, that he wasn't the only one panting like he ran for miles. He wanted to sleep on the spot, but Gokudera told him that if he was tired, he could lend him his back and carry him until they found safety. The offer was tempting, but the bomber must be tired as well, so he refused, telling him they would find a safe spot together and he would hold on for now.
Since they had no business left here, they planned on leaving the area as soon as possible. Yamamoto carried Chrome while Gokudera carried Enma on his back, much to his dismay, and Tsuna carried Lambo in his arms. The other two seemed to be more exhausted than him, so he couldn't just flat out tell his right hand man to carry him when Enma looked like he was about to pass out on the spot.
"Jyuudaime, I'm not exactly sure which part of Italy we're in or how many years we traveled back, but I think the woods are our best bet. I doubt anyone would just welcome us in their homes." Gokudera suggested, looking at Tsuna with a beaming smile.
"Ooooh, are we gonna go camping?" Yamamoto laughed, feeling himself relax. Maybe he should later suggest that Chrome eat more. She was too light! He felt like he wasn't carrying anything at all.
Just as they were about to leave, they heard rushed footsteps behind them and were too late to go into hiding. The sight made most of them have their mouth gaping.
...
Giotto and the others never expected the kids to be so strong. Even from afar, they could see the heap of bodies on the ground. When G examined said bodies, he realized that they still had a pulse. Good. And another good was they wouldn't have to deal with them putting up a fight now that they were out like a light.
However, that wasn't the only thing that surprised them in the scene. It was the kids.
"W-What!?" G was the first to react as he drew back hastily, slapping a hand to his face to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. The kids they were speaking of had mirrored their reactions, their small mouths gaping, making them look like goldfishes out of water.
"Uh...Is it just me or are we looking at..." Yamamoto trailed off, unsure of whether he should continue his sentence or not as both parties was equally shocked, if not horrified, at the encounter.
Giotto and the others were having a hard time absorbing the sight. The kids looked like them, though with a few differences! Even his dear friend Cozart had a lookalike! Although ragged and pale, Daemon could see his resemblance to the girl. G was so bewildered that he couldn't utter a single word. He had his own lookalike, excluding the tattoo on his face and his pink hair! Knuckles wasn't sure how to feel about this. His child copy could pass as his own son. From the hair, aside from color, to his fists, the boy even has a band-aid on the bridge of his nose! Asari felt some strange emotion surge inside him. Well, his lookalike was smiling? At them? What and why? Lampo couldn't care less. His look-alike was a baby! The baby looked exactly like him when he was an infant! Was this some sort of joke? There was only one Lampo-sama! Alaude eyed his lookalike. He knew oh so well the look in his eyes. The boy was preparing to attack. It didn't matter if he looked like him or not. Criminals were criminals. Giotto wasn't even in any position to speak. His lookalike was...was just too identical to him! Was the kid his doppelganger or something? This was just too creepy!
What in the world.
Tsuna and his group, on the other hand, were having a hard time swallowing the fact that they ended up in Vongola Primo's era! What kind of mess was this!? The problems just kept piling up! If they had to deal with them, they knew they would have no chance of winning against them.
Wait a minute.
He remembered Reborn telling them not to bring the rings and boxes. Was it because he knew where they were gonna end up? Or perhaps the baby already explained and the whole story was still forgotten? Tsuna wanted to just cry and go back to the present world. Wait, how were they supposed to go back, anyway!?
Hibari felt unsettled at the sudden turn of events. What was the Vongola Primo doing here? Did they end up in their era? If so, this could be his chance to finally test his strength against the first Cloud Guardian. So without any warning, he charged towards Alaude, hearing his companions yelling for him to stop in the background, but that didn't make him halt his actions. He jumped, swinging his tonfa towards the man's cheek and, as expected, he dodged, producing his handcuffs and hearing some alarmed screaming from Primo and the others, however, Alaude didn't stop in his tracks.
Tsuna passed Lambo towards Yamamoto, giving him a loud 'Eh!?' sound when he did. Oh God. Why did Hibari attack the Cloud guardian? There was no way they were gonna win! If they had run away earlier, they would already be gone...probably? Hopefully?
Hibari and Alaude were fighting on par. Giotto and the others found it unbelievable that a kid could be on the same level as Alaude. The awe died down when Hibari got kicked, flying towards the side, but was caught by Tsuna and Ryohei just in time before he hit the ground.
"O-Ow!" Tsuna winced. Unfortunately, Ryohei and Hibari ended up crushing him. Tough luck.
"Alaude, stop!" Giotto had been saying that over and over again now. Thankfully, the Cloud guardian halted, not after he kicked the kid in the shin and literally threw him off of him. Said kid didn't seem fazed by the kick as he stood back up again, but Giotto finally had enough.
And so did the kids.
"Oi! We're not here to fight!" Gokudera yelled, running towards the trio and helping Tsuna get up. Because of Primo's appearance, they had completely strayed from their original goal. They were supposed to escape and find a safe place and right now seemed like an ideal moment, but Hibari wasn't going to have that as he pointed his tonfa at him.
"W-Wait! Hibari-san, please stop!" Tsuna insisted, trying to get in between the two. If they get in a fight now, their situation would grow even worse!
Meanwhile, Primo and his guardians watched the exchange, Giotto finally declaring that they should interfere before something bad happened. Much to his surprise, Hibari's tonfas were quickly taken out of his hands, feeling himself being lifted from the ground and swung over a shoulder. He also had his hand and feet cuffed. Alaude wasn't good at dealing with kids, so this treatment should settle the kid down for a moment.
Tsuna and the others looked at Alaude in horror. Did he just...? Seriously...? Hibari was... It was totally a laughing matter since Hibari was never treated that way, but the death glare he was shooting at them made it hard to laugh.
What now? Were they going to jail or be questioned?
First of all, Giotto wasn't sure how to deal with the situation. Judging from the exchange the kids were having earlier, they seemed to speak Japanese. Setting aside the fact that they were basically just their tiny lookalikes, Giotto took a step towards the kids, but G's lookalike had stepped in stop him, appearing malicious.
"Ah, my apologies. I mean no harm." Giotto stated, holding both his arms up. He didn't really have anything on him that would harm the kids. He won't just go into his Dying Will mode anyway, even if they asked, not that they would know of such a thing.
"Yup! No harm!" Asari and Knuckles added, waiting as the kids relaxed their stances.
Tsuna's head was on fire. No harm? What were they going to do then? There were too many thoughts in his brain right now and he still can't remember what Reborn told them! The misfortune they were in now was progressing way too fast. They weren't even ready to meet Primo of all people, and in the flesh! How could he calm down when surprises just kept coming their way?
"What're you gonna do then?" Gokudera didn't relax his stance, maintaining his eye contact on Primo. He wasn't exactly sure how they were in this time, but Reborn had told them before that Vongola Primo and his guardians were just as kind as how his boss was, but putting your guard up just in case was never a bad thing.
Yamamoto laughed, "Hopefully not eat us for breakfast, haha." He meant that as a joke since Tsuna looked like he was gonna die and couldn't help but say it. The boy was trying to lighten his friends up, that was all.
"Wha-?! Just shut up, baseball idiot!"
G wanted to die. His lookalike had his personality and his angry face too! How was this possible? Watching his lookalike argue with his personality and face just made him want to dig a hole and reflect on everything he had done until now.
"Well, if possible, perhaps help you and your friends? The girl looks like she's having a really hard time breathing." Daemon spoke, eyeing the girl who was being carried by Asari's lookalike. The girl was very pale and her breathing was ragged, almost like she was having an asthma attack or perhaps something worse.
Oh no! Tsuna ran towards Yamamoto and checked to see if Chrome still had her organs intact. Her stomach didn't look flat, but it was starting to deflate.
"Like hell we'll accept that! We don't even know you!" Gokudera retorted. He knew them all too well, but with quick thinking, he thought that if he showed any sign of knowing them and telling them about the future, things could get messier than it already was.
Giotto bowed at that, telling him that he forgot his manners. Each one made their brief introductions and that was the moment the kids noticed that Alaude was gone, along with Hibari.
"Ah, looks like they went ahead." Daemon said in a monotone voice as he glanced over the kids, who freaked out.
When did they disappear? Tsuna didn't notice, but the situation just turned for the worst! Not to mention Chrome really needed help right now and the only thing he could think of was using the power of the Vongola Ring, but they didn't even have that. Sensing Tsuna's panic, Chrome slowly opened her eyes, smiling at him.
"B-Boss, it'll be okay. I just...need some rest. I'll recover in a while." The girl let out a soft sigh and he noticed her stomach was returning to normal. Whether Chrome was forcing herself or not was what worried Tsuna the most. He told her that if she needed anything, he would help her, so long as she was alright. Honestly, not having the Vongola Rings at their disposal was a really huge disadvantage.
The boy wasn't really sure of what to do next. Hibari just disappeared with Alaude and there was no way they could leave him with the first Cloud Guardian, who knows what would happen. On the other hand, they had no idea what Primo would do to them as he knew that revealing anything from the future could mess up A LOT of things.
"I know this is sudden, but I think the girl needs medical help. I promise we won't hurt you, but if you're willing, you can come to the mansion with us and we can talk there." Giotto suggested. The girl looked like she was in pain. He didn't understand what was happening to her, but if they agreed to follow, they could give her a quick checkup to see if anything was wrong. If not, perhaps they should just use force. After all, the kids weren't exactly innocent as they remembered the escorts' state when they arrived.
Yamamoto glanced from Primo to Tsuna, "Hey Tsuna, I don't think it'll be that bad and I think Chrome really needs to get checked." The boy understood her condition, but he felt her stomach returning to normal just now, so it should be fine. If worse comes to worst, they would just have to bulldoze their way out. No problem. They would probably be recovered by then, too.
Tsuna didn't really have a choice, so he nodded at Primo and they sighed in relief. Wait, what? Why did the sigh? Were they worried about them? Daemon walked towards Yamamoto and asked if he could carry the girl instead. The kids and adults alike were a little hesitant, but Yamamoto replied a yes and the first mist guardian tenderly took the girl from his back, carrying her like a princess. Too light. That was the only thing he could say. And really pretty. He was so glad to have a cute lookalike.
Well, Giotto didn't seem to understand what Daemon was plotting, but nevertheless, they guided the kids back to their mansion when some officers came to take the escorts on the ground. They just forgot about them.
*There are lots of Italian dialect and they all sound different from each other. Even I am confused of how dialects work.
**Italy is covered in graffiti in the present. Before it used to be so clean.
A/N: I'm trying my best to get back into writing but after being on hiatus for like, 3 years? I don't feel like it anymore. I'm rusty as hell I apologize.
