The First Time

Dick sat in the waiting room, leaning forward.

"Don't worry, son. It'll be fine," Bruce tried to comfort his son.

"You're being paranoid, Dick. You'll be fine," said Selina.

"Uh, guys? Dad's the one who taught me to be this paranoid in the first place, I can't just switch it off," Dick said "Man, I can't believe this is happening," Dick clasped his clammy hands together "It just seems that 10 minutes ago we had just met and I had acted like an idiotic teenager. Thinking that that happened 10 years ago... It's unbelievable,"

A doctor came out of the delivery room.

"Mr. Grayson?" he said "There's someone who'd like to meet you,"

Dick looked down at the little bundle in his arms. He looked to Zatanna as she lay back in the hospital bed, then back to the little bundle. He sat on the bottom of the hospitalbed. Zatanna put her hand on his arm with tears in her eyes.

"Just once... all it takes is once," she said, smiling.

Dick smiled at the memory of that night, that night that happened 9 months ago.

"That was a magical night," he said, looking at her.

Zatanna blushed with a slight smile. Then she reached out her arms and Dick passed the little bundle to her. There was movement in the bundle and Zatanna uncovered a little face.

The little baby opened its eyes and gasped at the sight of its mother. Dick walked around the bed and sat next to his wife, his arm around her shoulders and they looked at the little baby.

"She's so... I just love her," Zatanna said, tears running down her cheeks.

Dick wrapped both his arms around her shoulders and hugged her to himself. Zatanna looked up at her husband, their lips meeting for a few seconds, and both looked to the little baby girl in Zatanna's arms.

"I love her too and..." Dick smiled at his wife "I love you,"

"I know what name you want to give her," said Zatanna "And, now that I can actually see her, I know the name you picked fits better,"

Zatanna handed the little baby girl to Dick and they supported her together, one arm around her and their spare arms around each other.

"Welcome to the world, Mary Sindella Grayson," Dick said "Our little Robin,"

Mary squirmed as she was held by her parents for the first time...
