Author's Note: I am so so sooooo sorry for taking so long to update this. Life got in the way, but I'm posting now, and I'm going to try and implement a schedule for posting so I'll be more inclined to write regularly. That way you guys don't have to wait like 9 months for an update.
Again, sorry, and thank you to those of you who have stuck around, waiting for a new chapter. I hope you enjoy it.
It still took a few days for Fred to get up the courage to approach me and, even then, he didn't do it in person. Silly boy.
Instead, I was sitting in transfiguration, actually trying to pay attention, when a crumpled piece of parchment landed on my desk.
'Can we talk?'
Initially, I was annoyed. What was his problem? After all this mess, and weeks of not talking, and he still couldn't just approach me? But when I looked up at him and saw the worried look on his face, I could feel myself calm down. Only a little, though.
'Fine. Meet me out in the hallway after class.'
I didn't look up at him to see his reaction to my response, or even check if he had accepted, and, instead, returned my focus back to my notes.
After class ended, I packed my things and left the classroom, stepping to the side once I had entered the hall in order to wait for Fred. It didn't take long for him and George to exit the classroom, and once George saw me, he gave a smile and a wink before bidding his brother goodbye. Fred walked over to me, a surprising look of confidence on his face.
"Hi," he greeted, a small smile on his face.
"What was it you wanted to talk about?" I retorted, determined to make him work for his forgiveness. My response caused him to falter for a moment, but he quickly regained himself.
"I think you know what I want to talk about, Chloe. I wanted to apologize, for how I behaved after the dance. You're right, it's none of my business who you sleep with, and I had no right to speak to you in that manner," he looked up at me with sincerity in his eyes, but I made sure to keep my face hard.
"I know I'm right," was all I said, crossing my arms over my chest. Fred seemed to get agitated for a moment before he calmed down again.
"Right, so, do you accept my apology or not?"
I pursed my lips and nodded. "Of course I do. Just don't let it happen again." I kept my expression stony, but Fred surprised me with a bright grin as he picked me up in a hug, and, despite myself, I found myself smiling.
"Of course I won't, Chloe, thank you," he agreed, placing me down.
"Right," I commented, trying to tone down my smile, "well, I've got to get to class."
"Sure, sorry," Fred agreed, beginning to walk with me down the hall. "I'll see you later though, right?" He asked as I began walking toward the front door of the castle.
"Yes, Fred, you'll see me later," I agreed, nodding before leaving the castle and making my way toward the greenhouses.
I walked into the Great Hall after class, my stomach demanding food. I began making my way to the Slytherin table when a hand grabbed my arm and began towing me in the opposite direction.
"What are you doing, George?" I asked when I looked up to find it was he who had grabbed me.
"No way are you eating over there today. I've had to deal with Fred's moping for weeks. You're eating with us so I can bask in the glory that is you two being okay with each other again."
"I don't really think that's a good idea, George," I argued, trying to free my arm, "I don't want to push it."
"Oh, come off it. You're not pushing anything, just come sit with us," he pleaded. I bit my lip before nodding reluctantly.
"Fine, but don't expect it to be a regular thing," I agreed, walking with him over to the table.
"Chloe!' Fred announced as I sat down, and I tried hard to ignore the grin on his face. I couldn't let myself fall back into it, not so fast or so easily. Fred was still with Angelina, after all, and I didn't want to put myself in the position to be hurt again.
"Hi, Fred," I greeted, a small smile on my face as I began filling my plate with food.
"Nice of you to join us today," Jacob smirked at me.
"Well, I didn't really have a choice, since George wouldn't take no for an answer," I laughed, winking over at George.
"Of course I wouldn't, we missed our little snake," he laughed, beginning to eat his own food.
"So, Chloe," Fred began, seeming far too relaxed for my liking. "You remember how you mentioned you thought our prank on the Durmstrang students was a tad bit too mild?"
"Yeah," I agreed warily, unsure of where this conversation was going. George was smirking next to Fred, and that didn't make me feel any better.
"Well, Georgie boy and I were wondering if you wanted in on the next one. Perhaps this one will be a bit more to your taste."
"What were you thinking?" I questioned, immediately becoming interested. The last couple months had been entirely too tame. I was more than ready to cause a little mischief.
Fred looked around at the crowded table before turning back to me. "Meet us outside our common room, Saturday night, ten o'clock sharp," he ordered, returning to his food as if nothing had happened.
"Alright, Weasley," I agreed, a smirk forming on my face. If they couldn't discuss the prank here, it must be good. "Sounds like a plan."
