Decorate (CS Fluff)
Note: A little Holiday Drabble for you all!
Dis: I don't own OUAT!
Emma walked down the hall, her bare feet almost silent on the wooden floor. She reached out at the banister, her palm sliding down the oak as she made her way down the stairs. The bottom step creaked as she ran her hands up and down her arms searching for her pirate. She stuck her head in the living room and her eyes traveled over the large Christmas tree with twinkling lights of every color, to the mantle with stockings hung in a row over the fireplace: the room was filled with the scent of pine and dazzling lights, but no pirate.
Emma shifted her weight and headed to the kitchen, hands rubbing her suddenly nervous stomach as she walked. Down the hall there were more decorations, the overpowering scents of pine and cinnamon making her nose twitch. It had been too much for her, at first, having her home jam-packed with decorations. She had snapped, without meaning to, and Killian had taken it personally. She had known, with it being their first holiday together, that he might go a little overboard. She'd seen him searching on the internet, conversing with her mother and Henry… She had expected it, but still hadn't been prepared when she came in with bags of gifts and closed the door only to turn around and see that Christmas had exploded in her home. Now, after a long shower to think and getting more comfortable in her gray pajama bottoms and tank top: she made her way into the kitchen, and found Killian sitting at the table with a look of defeat on his face.
"Hey," she said, only after a slight pause.
His blue eyes looked up from the table to her, emotions of all sorts swimming in their depths. Love, hurt, guilt… Then love again as he offered her a smile. "Hello, Love."
"I… I'm sorry… About…" She took a deep breath and looked him square in the eye, her face getting a little red at the effort it took to not run back upstairs. "Killian…"
He shifted in the chair then stood, abandoning the cocoa to go to her. She hated how her eyes were now burning with tears, and how her bottom lip still trembled despite her biting down on it. His arms went around her now and she eagerly accepted his touch and affection.
"Shh… It's okay love…"
"I"m sorry… I… I overreacted. I was out of line. I knew-know, how important this is to you."
"I just wanted our first Holiday together to be memorable. I'll admit, now, I may have gone a little overboard," he said, ringed fingers sliding through her hair. "I'll take some of it down-"
"No! No… Leave it… Please…" She looked up at him now as his thumb swiped at a tear going down her cheek. "I'm being stupid…"
"Emma…" He smiled, this one truly reaching his eyes. "Nothing you ever do or say will ever my stupid in my eyes."
She smiled back, the same love that had been in his eyes were now in hers as she went up on her toes and pressed her lips to his. The kiss was gentle, but firm, and when she pulled away her stomach chose that time to gurgle. She laughed, hands back to the slightly protruding stomach.
"The lad hungry?" asked Killian.
"Perhaps a little," said Emma sheepishly. "He's been overworking my moods swings and needs to refuel."
"Grilled cheese then?" he asked, opening cabinets to find the bread and butter, as well as a pan to warm on the stove.
"Extra pickles," she answered, resting her chin on her hand, watching him work. "Better make two… Liam is a growing boy after all."
"Aye… That he is."
He made the grilled cheese, then sat beside her as she devoured them, eating his one in the same amount of time it took her to eat two. Suddenly, her eyes were droopy and she wanted nothing more but to go to bed. So she suggested they leave the plates until morning, took his hand, and led him up to their room: the glow of the holiday decorations the only light needed to guide them there.
