AN - Okay, so I've just watched the 50th episode and overall I think it was brill. The only thing that I think was a let down was that 10 and 11 didn't even see Rose - though we really shouldn't be surprised since Moffat has admitted that he doesn't like Rose - and when Bad Wolf came up, both were too busy to question it. As I was watching it I was hoping that atleast one of them could see her, so I wrote this. Hope you enjoy it :)

Haunted

He could see her. He could always see her. He'd been seeing her for the past two hundred years but he never acknowledged her - he couldn't afford to. Despite how frequent her visits were she never stayed for long. Just when he finally risked looking at her, which he always ended up doing just to get a glimse of her for more than a second, she had disappeared. She was gone again - but then, she was never truly here. Not really.

When Rose appeared, she watched him intently. Making small comments here and there on little things. Tiny things. He needed to eat more, he need to sleep more... always so concerned about him. But any other time, she'd just watch as if she was watching a movie - and it certainly felt like it sometimes. A few months before, she'd actually cheered and applauded when he saved the day. To him, that proved that she wasn't his Rose. His Rose would do more, this one seemed more... resigned.

That day, the one where she'd applauded, had been a bad day for him. Without really meaning to, he had laughed. He acknowledged her, and she noticed. He would never forget the hope on her face, her eyes lighting up with joy as she tried to get his attention again only for the light to go out in them as he stubbornly ignored her. He would never admit that he cried himself to sleep that night because he did want to talk to her, he wanted to take her in his arms and never let go. But he couldn't, because she wasn't real. He would always see her, he had accepted that by now, but he understood that she was a figment of his imagination - an imprint that was stuck in his mind because she was his last thoughts before he regenerated. A part of him was happy that he got to see her again and anothed part of him couldn't help but think that it was wrong.

She was happy - she was living her life, probably married with childredn by now. And that was good, he tried to tell himself as he ignored the pain in his hearts. He should be moving on too. He should... let her go. So he would continue to ignore her, no matter how it hurts, because it was for the best.

Which was why he was pointedly avoiding looking at that direction of the hurt, and he had done the same in the cells and in the Tower of London. Because she wasn't real and he had more important things to think about now. Rose would always be there, a chance to save Gallifrey may not. He couldn't make the same mistake again.

AN - I'm not sure whether I will carry this on and even if I do then it won't be for a while since I'm busy with my other fic but what do you guys think?
