A/N: Well, I always knew I would come back to FF someday. I just didn't think it would be today, and I didn't think it would be with a little Dirk/Callie drabble. My friend and I do this thing where I take a prompt, she gives me a pairing, and I try to make the pairing fit the prompt. This prompt was "bottle." I hope you enjoy it! (:

"Hey, are you okay?"

The voice startled her, and her head whipped around to see the tall human boy beside her. "Dirk," she breathed, "you scared me! Don't sneak up on me like that."

"Sorry." He sat down beside her, and that's when she noticed the bottle in his hand. He took a sip of the cola and saw her ghastly white eyes fixed on it. He offered her some, but she shook her head and refused to take it. "C'mon, I know you want some." He put the bottle on the ground between them, and she hesitated before slowly wrapping her gray-painted fingers around it and bringing it to her lips. She proceeded to down half of what was left, and Dirk raised an eyebrow and said, "Thirsty much? Anyway, you never answered my question."

"Oh, I... um..."

"Are you okay, Calliope? It's a simple yes or no question."

She looked over her shoulder, as if she was afraid someone was listening in on their conversation, and then she turned back to Dirk and said, "I... am not sure."

He gave an understanding nod, and she expected that to be the end of it, but he continued, "Your brother's dead, you know. You're safe now."

"Yes, I know that, but... so many people..." She looked behind her again, at the battlefield, where charcoaled, broken bodies were being dragged to mass graves. It was a horrible sight, and she couldn't stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks.

"Died?" Dirk finished for her, and she nodded, hanging her head. "I was prepared to die, too."

Her head snapped back up, a terror-stricken expression on her face. His hand was where the cola bottle had been moments ago—between them—and she put her hand on top of his. She struggled to form words through her tears. "I-I'm really... really, very glad that... that you didn't."

He gave her a warm smile. "Yeah, I'm pretty happy about it myself." He took his hand from under hers and closed the gap between them by pulling her close while she cried softly into his shoulder.
