Chapter One

.:The Start:.

"I hate you!" Lucy shouted, throwing her book across the room. She puffed her cheeks and crossed her arms, angry at what Marcus did to Benedict and Lolita. I mean, wouldn't you get angry if the main character did a stupid move, causing the villain in the story to dispute more evil to the world, when the simple problem could've been stopped if one had just said the correct magic runes? Of course not! The main character WOULD do something stupid, like accidentally direct the nullifying runes to his love interest, who was tied up and away from the imposing conflict. Which those runes could potentially kill her.

God, they're such idiots! screamed Lucy, clutching her hair and slumping backwards on her soft bed sheets. Why do most main characters have to do the stupidest moves when their lover is held in the hands of evil?! My ship will be ruined at this rate!

"What the hell are you doing?"

Lucy blinked, releasing her clutched fingers from her blonde tresses and leaned on her elbows, looking over to her room's doorway. Michelle, dressed in a simple light-pink summer dress, was leaning on the doorway, raising a confused eyebrow and had her arms crossed. Lucy frowned, "None of your business."

"Then why is your book on the other side of the room?" Michelle questioned, dead-panned at the lack of her sister's intellect. Lucy sat up, stretching her arms and giving out a small yawn.

"I threw it."

Michelle blankly stared at her older sister, slowly getting irritated by her. Sighing and shaking her head, the dirty blonde pushed her body off of the doorway and started to walk down the hallway, "Dinner's ready."

"Alright," Lucy said, getting off of her bed and walking over to grab her now crinkled and crumbled book, the last pages of where she read bent and folded. The blonde frowned when she noticed that the book's spine was stretched, leaving the pages out to fray. Closing the book, Lucy placed it on her desk, making sure she didn't crease a single corner of the pages.

This is my life, Lucy sighed, walking to her door. Grabbing the brass handle, Lucy stared at her reflection, focusing on the fish-bowl look the handle gave.

Lucy Heartfilia is a natural intellectual teen, or also known as a "nerd" in school. Despite her hair color and her natural body type, she stayed out of the popular crowd, not wanting the classic emotional drama, nor the love life from a pea-brained surfer dude (or what Lucy assumed, since that was in the movies and in reality, sadly.) In all honesty, the blonde would rather spend a day in her local library than to have to hang out with people that either frustrate her or make her feel isolated from others. It wasn't like her to act out-going in public or be loud and brash with strangers; it was a ludicrous thought for one to label the blonde as such.

She wasn't sexy or hot; she was timid, nerd-like and cute at the same time. Traits that sounded like a good deal to one sounded horrific to Lucy.

She was described as a petite, quiet, and a delightful young lady to her teachers, who knew as much as rocks when it came to teen romance today. All of Lucy's male colleagues hadn't batted an eye towards her, only talking to the girl when they had trouble on figuring out an Algebra equation or asking her if they could copy her homework and class work notes. It was the same thing when it came to the female population of her high school, albeit the girls were a little more nicer and a lot more sociable when asking for favors from Lucy.

The brown-eyed girl frowned at her reflection, watching her eyes flicker from her flimsy hair, to her comfy navy-blue sweatshirt and lastly, landing on her generous chest that had her necklace laying stiffly on the clothing. Glancing down towards her chest, Lucy picked up her pendant, watching as the little golden key had danced in the sunlight; the remaining light of the sunset fading into her room. Twisting and turning her wrist in slow, but graceful movements, she slowly huffed and lightly smiled at the memory that surfaced in her brain.

The sun had kissed her pale skin and the fresh air had softly caressed her face. The wind was gentle and the breeze flowed across the summer blue skies, where clouds of great magnitudes moved at a snail's pace and birds were the size of planes when viewed on Earth's surface. It was a beautiful dream of Mother Nature's most greatest creations.

The sound of elegant classical music played throughout the distant memory, acting like a scene. Violins played their strings while the piano gracefully pushed its keys to a soft tune; something familiar to the blonde, but she hadn't grasped the name of the composed piece instantly.

Shaking her head, Lucy turned the handle and let her necklace fall, feeling the tiny tug when the key dropped.

The bijou chewing of food and the clangs of the forks and knives hitting plates were the only sound that had reached Lucy's ears when she arrived in the dining room. Michelle glanced at her in her seat for a moment while stuffing her face of buttered mashed potatoes, then turned back to cut her meat in a neat manner.

Quickly moving to her seat, Lucy grabbed a plate and placed it in front of her, unraveling her fork and knife from her napkin while doing so. Deciding on eating the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes full of some spices, she reached across the table for the Irish native food, but was stopped by a hand.

"Lucy, if you would like something, please ask one of us," Jude said, grabbing the bowl and handing the piping hot food to the teen. Lucy stiffly nodded and took the bowl of food from him, placing it in front of her and swiftly scooping the food onto her plate with her fork.

Layla, wiping her face with her napkin, dropped it onto her lap and smiled at her family, "So, how was everyone's day?"

Michelle scoffed, grinning to herself when she noticed Lucy look at her from the corner of her eye, "Nothing much. Painted my nails, texted my friends . . . ." She glanced at her mother when she saw Lucy glare at her, giving a half-hearted smile towards her mother.

Layla smiled at Michelle, then looked to her eldest daughter, "Anything happened with you, Lucy?"

Jude momentarily paused his chewing and stared at Lucy's head of blonde hair.

Lucy stopped resenting her sister and blinked, turning her head towards her mother. Seeing her questioning stare, the blonde ducked her head, "Nothing."

Jude breathed, sighing before clearing his voice and taking a sip of his water. Michelle and Layla looked over to him, Lucy not far behind. "I have an important announcement to make."

"Next week, from Monday to Friday, we are going on vacation." Layla smiled at her husband's words, "That's wonderful! Where are we going this time?"

Lucy rolled her eyes at her mother, while Michelle sat up straight when she heard the question, chewing quickly in anticipation.

The head of the house cut his steak cleanly, "Camping upstate."

Michelle choked on her food, clutching her neck and her face turning an odd shade of blue. Lucy, shell-shocked at Michelle, quickly ran over to her little sister, giving her the Heimlich maneuver. Layla, mid-step from moving towards Michelle, sat back down and glanced between her husband and her dying daughter, worriedly. Layla knew that Lucy took a CPR class, so she wasn't so worried, although there was a tiny part of her that whispered that Michelle wasn't going to make it.

Jude sighed, placing a hand to his forehead. Grabbing a cloth napkin, he dabbed his perspiring forehead and dropped it in front of him, "I've already made reservations to Fairy Tail Campgrounds and I've set up the pop-up. All there's left is for everyone to pack a week's worth of clothes."

A piece of a chewed-up steak had slapped Jude's forehead.

"Thanks," Michelle breathed, rubbing her sore throat and grabbed for her glass of water. Lucy lightly tapped her sister's shoulder in response, looking over Michelle's face, watching it return to its peachy-pink hue. Layla released a huge breath of air, slumping her shoulders and holding a slender hand to her beating heart, still in major shock.

Jude's facial expression was blank as he wiped the piece of food that was lodged in Michelle's throat away his shiny forehead.

"What do you mean camping?" Michelle spat out, regaining her normal breathing.

"It means what it means," Lucy said, sitting back down in her seat, "The activity of going on a vacation, living in a camper for an agreed amount of time."

Lucy - 1

Michelle gave her a tiny glare.

"Lucy, don't be wise," Jude lashed out, giving a careful eye towards his eldest. Lucy didn't bat an eye towards him, focusing solely on her sister from across the dinner table.

Michelle rolled her eyes. Layla was still sitting in sheer shock, glancing around the table with nervous eyes thinking, How come we don't respond to the lack of concern for Michelle's health?! That and the nonchalant conversation!

The mother of the house decided to speak up, "W-Well, that's great news Jude. W-why don't you go more in depth with that . . ." Her voice trailed off when no one seemed to be paying any attention.

She sighed, lightly smiling to herself when Lucy decided to speak up.

"So when are we leaving?"

Jude picked up his spoonful of mashed potatoes, "Next week."

Michelle scoffed at her sister's idiocy, "That was a stupid question, Lucy. He said that like five minutes ago."

Lucy dropped her fork on the table and was about to stand up when Jude's voice rung through the air, "Lucy, sit." The girl had backed off, unwillingly. Michelle slightly smirked.

Picking at her food, Lucy glanced back at her father, "And I'm going to assume no electricity?"

The dirty blonde that sat across from her opened her mouth to retort a snarky reply, yet again the man of the house's voice interrupted her. "No."

Lucy raised an eyebrow, "No . . . ?"

"There is power there. You need to hook up the wires yourself." Jude remarked, smiling a little at the thought of doing some work on the campgrounds. Lucy nodded her head slowly, trailing her thoughts back to her father's words. Power, huh? Not much of a camping trip, but it's something.
