I got out of the car and headed for the door where I was greeted by the smile of the woman I loved. She looked so happy to see me, and it made what I had to do so much harder. However, I knew that I couldn't lie to her, not to Mia, not anymore.
"Brian, what is it, what's wrong?" She asked when I didn't return her smile or lean into kiss her as I usually did.
"We need to talk."
Three minutes later we were sitting in her room, both of us nursing beers as I wondered how to begin.
'To hell with it" I thought, and then I spoke, each word feeling like a combination of poison leaving my system and acid burning my lungs.
"I love you more than anything, and that's why I can't lie to yo anymore. My name isn't Brian Stoner, it's Brian O'Connor, and I'm not just some guy that worked at Harry's or is addicted to tuna fish sandwiches. Meeting Dom that night at the races, coming by the store everyday for lunch wasn't a coincidence. I was meant to get close to you, all of you, so that I could find out whether or not Dom was involved with the truck hijackings. I'm a cop Mia, and I am so sorry." I finished, wanting nothing more than to die at that moment, but knowing that I deserved every bit of Mia's hatred that I knew was coming.
"You bastard. You come into my home, and you pretend to love me, all because of a fucking badge."
"I showed up because of a badge, but loving you was never a lie."
"Why should I trust you? I don't even know you anymore. I never knew you at all."
"You probably shouldn't trust me. Your brother dosen't and I don't blame him. I understand if you hate me Mia, but I love you too much to lie to you anymore."
"You know the funny thing is I actually want to believe you, but I have a strict rule against dating a cop."
"What if I wasn't a cop?"
"That would be nice, but we don't live in a fantasy world. Some things just aren't meant to happen the way we want them to."
"You never know Mia. You never know." I replied before kissing her; most people would say I was insane or just plain stupid but I never did like to play it safe.
"What are you talking about?" She asked, apparently deciding not to hit me for kissing her.
"Get your car, and come find out."
"If you're screwing with me Brian..."
"Don't tempt me." I replied with a grin, and she punched me in the arm.
"Asshole."
Ten minutes later we were walking out the door, Dom's words still ringing in my ears.
Flashback
"I'm giving you one more chance O'Connor, but if you break her heart there won't be enough of you left to fill a Dixie Cup."
Flashback End
We pulled up to the house the FBI was using as their base, Mia looking at me obviously wanting to know what was going on. However I just got out of my car and walked towards the house Mia following behind.
"O'Connor?! What are you doing here?!"
I just smirked, knowing that Agent Bilkins was pissed because I had brought Mia here, but I couldn't care less.
"I'm here to tell you I'm done. You can keep your Detective's badge because there is no way that I am going to arrest my family."
'"Family? They're not your family O'Conner. They're a job. Just like screwing your little slut there was a-"
He didn't finish his sentence, mainly because I punched him in the face. He fefloor and I grabbed him by his shirt and hit him again, feeling my knuckles bruise as I broke his nose. I raised my fist back to hit him for a third time, only to feel Mia's hand on my arm.
"That's enough Brian. I already lost my brother because of this crap. Now let him go, and let's go home."
I nodded before taking her hand, and walking out the door, getting in the car. I knew that Belkin would call for help in a few minutes, and that by the end of the day I would be a wanted man. However, none of that mattered to me at that moment. In that moment as I looked at the brown-eyed beauty sitting next to me, I realized something. I may not know what tomorrow held, but I knew one thing with absolute certainty. I had finally gotten to where I always belonged.
A/N: I know this this took like forever, but I hope it was worth the wait! Thus ends my tribute to Paul Walker, may he rest in peace.
