As soon as these words were said, Spyro and Cynder gasped as one as they looked at the bulky dragon in armor, who looked down at Yuri with an air of importance and authority. The wolf simply looked back at him, and he asked calmly. "Under what accusation?"
"It is none of your business, faggot!" Said another one of the three dragons who had came, and Spyro snarled at him, giving a step forward as he bared his teeth at the older, bigger and much bulkier dragon. Even though Spyro himself thought of himself as completely straight, he was really developing a deep hatred towards that word.
By seeing the smaller purple dragon do that, the dragons gave a step back as they seemed to be ready to fight. They knew that this one was just a hatchling and that he was thin and was missing a wing. However, they had all heard enough stories of the previous purple dragon to know better than to engage in direct fight with him.
Yuri immediately got on the way, facing Spyro. The purple dragon looked up at Yuri's eyes, and he met these deep and cold eyes looking down at him with calm and serenity. The wolf looked at him, and he shook his head slowly, and it seemed to be enough to make Spyro calm down just enough for him to give up attacking the bigger dragons, it was almost as Yuri somehow could hypnotize the young dragon, but Yuri simply made him understand that it was not worth it, just like he had done the previous times with similar situations. Also, he only needed to give a single glance in Cynder's eyes to pass the exact same message to her, and to make her calm down, for she seemed as willing as Spyro to go against these bigger dragons, even if the chances of winning were far too small.
Once the two young dragons were calmed down, Yuri turned around to face the three dragons again, who were all eyeing the two young dragons as if they were dangerous. Yuri simply cleared his throat to get their attention back at him, and once they were looking at him again, the wolf started talking.
"Sires, I think you all have your responsibilities in the guard, and I'm sure that it make you all nervous, but, if I do remember correctly, there is a whole procedure about how arrests are made, right?" He asked as he looked at the dragons, who looked down at him, and the wolf continued. "So, if I do remember well, as the one being arrested, I have the right, according the law of Warfang, to know the reason why I'm being arrested, and the crime of which I'm accused, or the laws have changed?"
It seemed that Yuri was sure of what he was saying, and Spyro could feel it pretty well, byt the way that the wolf was saying it calmly and the way that he seemed calm and secure of what he was saying.
"Why, you little…" One of the dragons said, but the one in the middle, the indigo dragon, who seemed to be their leader, shot him a strong glare, enough to make him go silent. He then turned to Yuri, and he spoke slowly.
"You are being arrested for the accusation of attacking three young dragons." He said to the wolf with a firm tone, full of authority. "Two of them were left paralyzed into the place, while the other is still limping and with his wings numb."
Spyro looked at them for a few moments, and he suddenly realized what it was about.
Blast.
It was about the episode with Blast and his damned friends! The ones that tried to kill Spyro and Cynder, and who were stopped by Yuri, who fought them pretty well and left them behind after paralyzing them with the Gentle Fist.
Yuri simply looked at the dragons, and he said, "Oh, that."
"So, you assume that you did it?" The leader of the three dragons asked the wolf, continuing to stand tall and with his air of authority, and the wolf simply shrugged "Yeah, I'm not going to deny that it happened, because it really did. But I had to do it."
"Oh, and why would be that?" Another of the dragons in there asked to the wolf, in a tone of anger, "So you could show to everyone what happens if they let you unpleased? Or maybe you were thinking on letting your anger go in them? Or maybe you wanted to do something to pass your time?"
Each one of his accusations was carried with a deep contained rage, and Spyro had the strong feeling that t was for much more than the fact that Yuri had attacked young dragons. No, it was something bigger, something that made him being naturally unfriendly to the wolf, and Spyro had a feeling like he already knew what it was. It was the thing of Yuri being homosexual again. It was always it.
It seemed that it was enough reason for people to hate Yuri and to threat him as they liked only because they could. It just made Spyro so angry that they would threat a good person like Yuri like that only because of his options, and Spyro could feel his blood boiling as he saw the way that the dragon was acting with Yuri because of it.
Spyro wanted really to do something. He wanted to step forward and say that it was nothing of that, that Yuri only fought and left them like that because they had tried to kill him and Cynder, and all that the wolf do was protect them and save their lives. He wanted to tell them that Blast had tried to kill them and that he was the one who was dangerous and who should be arrested. He even wanted to know how to use an element, so he could step forward and fight to defend Yuri just like the wolf had done for him.
However, the wolf seemed to act first, as he asked to the other dragons. "So, what exactly did you heard about it?"
"Oh, we have heard enough." Said the same dragon as he looked down at the wolf with what seemed to almost be disgust, as if the wolf was not a wolf but a cockroach. "We heard from one of the dragons you attacked that they were taking care of their own lives when you and them." He said that gesturing to the two young dragons, "Suddenly came out of nowhere and attacked them. They tried to defend themselves and you used some short of magic to stop their breaths and paralyze them!"
That was a lie!
That was a big and fat lie! Yuri had not started any fight! It had been Blast who started it by attacking Spyro and Cynder, and Yuri had simply saved them! He hadn't even really hurt them! That damned Blast! He had completely distorted the story and had told them only what he wanted them to think that happened! That stupid, coward bastard! If Spyro was stronger he was going to find him and make him tell them the truth!
"That was what you heard?" The wolf asked calmly as he looked up at the dragons. "Sorry, but I guess that this version of the facts is a little wrong."
"Oh, so you didn't attacked them?"
"I did, but not for the reasons you think." Yuri said as he continued to look up at the dragon, being very calm and tranquil as he said it, "And I haven't really hurt them. The two ones who got paralyzed are moving again, right? And for the red one, his leg and wings will be moving again in two or three days from now, and they will all recover their breath abilities."
The dragon who was being the most aggressive to Yuri snarled, and made an attempt to walk forward, but the leader stopped him by putting a wing on his way, as he continued to look at Yuri, and he said, "Well, that is more than enough. You must come with us."
"No, he doesn't!" Spyro said, stepping forward, and making everyone look at him. "Yuri has done nothing wrong!"
"Oh, so for you attacking three innocent dragons is not a wrong thing?" Asked one of them, and Spyro then looked straight at him.
"Innocent!? Hah!" Spyro almost laughed at them, for what they said could only be described as a joke. "There is nothing of innocent about Blast and his two idiotic friends, not after all the things they have done to me!"
"Oh, so it was revenge?" Asked the dragon, looking at the purple dragon in the eyes. "So, you were angry at them and decided to give them a little punishment to let your anger out, and your little friend here did it on your request?"
Spyro was starting to lose his patient with them, and he practically screamed. "Yuri was protecting us! When that happened Blast and his friends were attacking me and Cynder, they tried to kill us! Blast was going to thrown us from the wall and let us die!"
"That was not what we heard." Said the leader, and Spyro looked at him, "Of course that Blast lied! He was trying to protect himself and to put us as the bad guys! You don't believe me? Then go asked his friends, they will say that it is…" But Spyro stopped. He realized that he was saying something stupid. Of course that Icicle and Bolder were not going to confirm what really happened. These two were loyal to Blast, and they were around as guilty and charged as the red dragon was. Even if they didn't were loyal enough to protect Blast after he abandoned them, then at least they would confirm his story to try and protect themselves. Why Spyro was even thinking that he would be able to count on them to tell the truth? Man, he was really starting to get stupid!
"What is the matter, young dragon?" The older dragon said, "You lost your voice?" He was mocking Spyro, was testing him. And Yuri had noticed that, and he got in the way once again, and he said, "Excuse me, but I think you came here because of me."
The dragons all shared a look, as they knew that the wolf was right, and the leader looked down at him, and he said, "Yuri Moondancer, under the accusation of attacking and nearly killing three young dragons, we are getting you under arrest to be taken to be judged."
"You can't do this!" Spyro said once more, and he was about to step forward, but Yuri got a hand on his way, and said, "Let me handle this."
"But Yuri…" Spyro tried to say, and the wolf turned around, and he looked at Spyro, as he whispered.
"I don't want you to be involved."
Spyro remained silence as he spoke. "You were there too, and they already know it, but they can't arrest two kids. At least not without a good reason. Did you saw how that guy was teasing you? He wanted you to react and to attack, so they would have a reason to take you too."
Only then Spyro realized that Yuri was right. He had noticed that the dragon who was the more aggressive was looking at him and that he had a smirk in his face in the few occasions that Spyro seemed about to fight, almost as if he was wanting him to attack. They wanted a reason to label him as a threat and to take him over just like Yuri. It seemed that they were waiting for that chance.
Still, Spyro could not simply let them take the wolf. Yuri had done nothing wrong! He was going to be arrested because of a lie that Blast had told to defend himself and most likely to make them look bad!
It was unfair!
The wolf seemed to notice what Spyro was thinking, and he smiled at him, "Don't worry, something like that happens to me very few months, for a reason or other. I'll be fine, I promise."
The wolf seemed sincere as he said it, and he got up, and he said to Cynder, "Cynder, you are in charge while I'm gone, I'll be back as soon as I can, you think you can handle it in here?"
The black dragoness looked at him for a few moments, and she nodded at him. The wolf smiled, and Spyro could only stare at him. By the way he was acting and talking to Cynder, it seemed really that he was somewhat used to what was happening, almost as if he had really passed by it all before. That was supposed to make Spyro feel better, but instead, it only made him angrier, for it meant that it was not the first time that they treated Yuri like that or tried to arrest him, and that made Spyro's blood boil.
Yuri simply turned to the dragons, and he said, "Okay, I'll go."
The dragons seemed to approve that answer, and soon, they were the three forming a living fence around the wolf, who gave one last look at the young dragons with an assuring smile, as he said, "I'll be back as soon as I can." And then, he walked away, guided by the great dragons, which seemed ready to fight if it was the case of the wolf suddenly trying to escape or resist.
As he watched them take him away, Spyro felt a great urge to go there and to fight them. He barely even cared if the dragons were much bigger and stronger than him, or that he had absolutely no skill in fight or any abilities that would allow him to win. Spyro only wanted to go in there and to protect Yuri. The wolf had done so much for him during the time that they had knew each other, and now Spyro wasn't able to do absolutely anything for the wolf. That was something that frustrated the purple dragon to no end.
He felt so powerless, so useless, as he watched the wolf being taken away, even if Yuri had assured him that he would be okay, and that he had gone with that assuring smile on his face, that told Spyro that it was going to turn out alright. Still, Spyro wished that he could do something.
After a while, the wolf and dragons were already out of sight, as they had gone in direction to the Dragon City, leaving Cynder and Spyro behind, they both still standing in front of the door, and the purple dragon casted a glance at Cynder.
The black dragoness was looking down as she looked very sad, and by the look in her face, Spyro concluded that she was probably feeling as bad about it as him. After a few moments, Cynder sighed, and she said, "Let's go back inside." She sounded sad as she said it, "We have to get lunch ready."
Spyro looked at her, and he was about to say something, but he had second thoughts, and he simply nodded, as he walked with her back inside. Once they closed the door, Spyro said, "Cynder?" The black dragoness looked at him, "Did it really already happened before? I mean, they coming here and trying to arrest Yuri?"
The black dragoness looked at him, and she sighed. "A few times. Sometimes it seems that they search for reasons to mess with Yuri or to try to take him arrested. A few weeks ago was because someone had accused him from stealing from their stand. Other was because someone said that he was harassing them. Maybe the guard doesn't do it on purpose, but it seems like some people have fun accusing Yuri from doing things so they can see if he is arrested or not."
Spyro felt his blood burning in rage like lava flowing through his veins, and by the way Cynder said it, even though it made her deeply sad, and as outraged as him, it seemed to be something pretty common of happening.
How people could be so horrible!?
Cynder sighed, and she said, "Yuri always says that I should try to ignore it, but it makes me very angry. He says that if I try to defend him they will only have a reason to come for me too, they want an excuse to do so."
The exact same thing that the wolf had just told Spyro a few moments ago.
"Yuri sometimes gets into trouble, but he always solves it and he comes back home after a day or two. He knows how to talk his way out of the troubles." Cynder said, but sem still seemed to be really upset about that, and so was Spyro.
"How can they do such horrible things to Yuri?" Spyro asked, more to himself than to Cynder "He has done nothing wrong, and yet they accuse him of things only to see him get arrested? This is horrible!"
Cynder sighed, and she said, "I know." She seemed almost pained as she said that, and Spyro could notice that this thing really pained her very much, "But, Yuri says that there is nothing we can do, so we must only raise our heads and keep going on."
"It is the best we can do now." Cynder said, and she let out a heavy sigh. Spyro knew that it was like something that Yuri would say, and that it was probably right. Still, Spyro knew deep in his heart that it was wrong, and he refused to accept that it should happen, only because people don't accept Yuri for what he was.
Spyro wished that he could do something, but he was too small and too fragile to be able to help Yuri in any way with these people who wanted to do the bad to him.
If at least he was stronger…
Cynder sighed, and she said, "Well, I', going to prepare lunch, don't expect much." The black dragoness said, as she walked to the kitchen, "You can clean the house, and Sparx can help… Wait, where is he?"
Only when she said that was that Spyro had noticed, for the first time since they had opened the door, that Sparx seemed to have vanished. They looked around, trying to spot the golden-glowing dragonfly, and Spyro even started to call him. "Sparx? Are you there?"
There was a brief silence, before Cynder said, "Do you hear it?"
Spyro stopped, and remained silent, and he heard a sound, almost as if it was some kind of clicking sound. They both shared a look and followed it in direction to the living room. They saw the bowl that served as Sparx's bed, flipped over and it seemed to be shaking, what was producing the clicking sound. The two dragons shared a look as they had a clue of what was it.
"Sparx?" Spyro said as he looked at the trembling bowl, which stopped trembling and was slowly raised, and the dragonfly was looking at him.
There was a brief silence as both dragons looked at him, Spyro with a neutral expression, and Cynder with what seemed to be annoyance and a hint of anger. The dragonfly looked up at them for a few moments, and he said, "Okay, no enemies under here! We are safe!"
Like he was going to convince anyone with that. It was clear that he had run, rather flew, away as soon as he saw the three dragons, and he hid under the bowl for cover. That dragonfly as a coward, and Cynder could notice that, and she would like to say aloud, but she didn't wanted to start a discussion or anything right now. Instead, she simply sighed, and said, "Yuri is going to be gone for a few days, and we are going to have to care for the house."
Sparx looked at her for a few moments, and he said, "When you say we, you mean..?"
"I mean everyone." She said, unflipping the bowl, and making the dragonfly cry out as he was flipped along with it and he spun around inside the bowl. "Now, you make yourself useful and help Spyro dusting the house, I'll work on lunch."
The tone in which she said it let it clear that there was no space for discussing, and both Spyro and Sparx complied with her orders. Soon, they were all working. Sparx was dusting the place with a broom, by holding it on his mouth and using it to brush away the dust, while Sparx was holding a small shovel that was proper to this work to recoil the dust in it so it would be easier to take it away and leave the place clean.
It was a long work, and Sparx was complaining about it as they worked, what did 't helped get it done nor made the work any easier. Still, they continued the work that they were doing, by cleaning the house and the rooms, one by one. Bathrooms, bedrooms, living room. Only the kitchen was left behind because Cynder was using it to cook lunch, but she made it very clear that as soon as they had ate the kitchen would be the next thing in their list.
It took quite a while, and a lot of dust, but Spyro and Sparx both were able to clean up the dust and thrown it outside of the house. However, their work was only beginning, as soon they had to wash and polish the place, in order to keep it truly clean and shining, just like Cynder and Yuri did. Spyro was admired in how much work was needed to get a small huse like that working, however, he was not complaining, once he had done much more work when he lived with Terrador and Nova.
He had been forced to clean, wash, polish, fix, cook and do all the other kinds of chores ever since he was four, and he had grew used to having to work alone in nearly everything. He was too used to it to start to complain about having to dust and was the floor of a simple house like that, and at least, in there he was doing it for someone who actually thanked him for the work, and appreciated him.
For the purple dragon, it was a good improvement.
Sparx himself seemed not to be so much grumpy about the work. Sure, it seemed that he was expecting to take a good life with everyone doing things for him and doing the work around while he kept around, slept and ate all he wanted, and sure, he seemed not very happy for knowing that he was going to have to work. Still, he didn't seemed to be as much grumpy as Spyro had expected him to be, and he actually seemed to be getting in the swing of doing things. Spyro imagined that it was because the dragonfly had to be on his own for a while, just like Yuri, and so, he had learned to take care of himself. Sure, it was clear that the dragonfly maybe didn't had a life as hard as Yuri's was, but he seemed not to be the kind who thought that everything on life was easy.
They continued to work, and they both did a good job, and Spyro, who was used to work a lot, was not having trouble, Sparx, however, seemed to be slowly turning tired, as his wings were having difficulty to flap and his glow was winking slightly, almost as if he was a lantern running out of battery.
"Man… I'm dead." The dragonfly said, dropping to the ground, panting heavily as his chest rose and fell at a steady rhythm. "Did your… wolf babysitter… said when he was going to come back?" Th dragonfly asked him, and Spyro was about to give some answer, when Cynder's voice called both from them from the kitchen.
"Boys, lunch in ready, come now!"
"Food!" Sparx said, quickly recovering and flying in direction to the kitchen, leaving Spyro behind a bit stunned, but the purple dragon soon was recovering and running in direction to the kitchen to eat. After all, he too was feeling hungry.
As soon as they arrived in the kitchen, they were both greeted with plates of food. Spyro had a little of chicken, which seemed to have slightly burned as it was cooked, and Sparx found himself into another bowl of grapes, which he promptly started to devour.
"Oh, please! Can you ate leas try to be polite while you eat?" Cynder asked as she served a plate of chicken to herself, and Spyro could only chuckle at this. He took a bite of the chicken, and indeed, it had burned only very slightly, and the condiment was a bit overcharged, but overall it was good.
"Sorry if is not the best." Cynder said to the purple dragon as she ate. "I never learned to cook very well."
Spyro chewed and he gulped down his chicken. "It is good." He said, sounding honest as he said that, and Cynder blushed a little, which she was very thankful for having her black scales to hide it. "Thank you, but still, I'm really not the best when it comes to cooking. Usually Yuri takes care of all of that." She said, and took another bite of the chicken, and it seemed that it only confirmed her suspicious that cooking wasn't for her.
"I can take care of dinner, if you want." Spyro offered, and Cynder looked surprised at him, and the purple dragon shrugged and he said, "I used to cook a lot when I didn't lived with you and Yuri. I don't mind cooking for someone who enjoy what I do."
These words were truer than Spyro himself had expected. Yes, indeed, it was good to cook for someone who was going to thank him later and was not going to simply eat to the fill with what he had prepared and then leave him with scraps. Most of all, it was good to cook to someone that Spyro was sure that would not throw the food in his face only to see him suffer.
"Wow… that is… very nice." Cynder said, feeling her cheeks heating more, and smiling at the purple dragon. "Oh, it is nothing." Was Spyro's answer, as he continued to eat, and the lunch time went on uneventful after that. Sparx was eating a lot, and Cynder and Spyro both ate their chicken in silent, none of them saying it aloud, but both of them had the very same heavy feeling that the table of lunch seemed somewhat empty without the presence of Yuri in there.
Soon after, the eating was done, and it was time for cleaning the dishes, and of course that, in that same moment, Sparx had simply vanished from sight, seemingly flying to somewhere else, but I had been so quick and sudden that neither of the young dragons was able to follow his movements.
"Of course, he complains about waking up soon but he has no problems to make a mad dash when it is time to clean up the mess he made." Cynder said to himself, and Spyro was actually able to chuckle at this, and he offered himself to clean and put the dishes away, which Cynder agreed.
"It should be easy anyway, if you have your water powers." She said, but Spyro looked at her, and he sighed, before saying, "I can't use water." Cynder looked at him as he said that, and he continued, "I can't use any element. Terrador and Nova never wanted me to learn them. All they taught me was fire, and only so I could cook the food."
"Oh…" Cynder said, reasoning that, with all of the stories of Malefor, it would make sense that people would not want the new purple dragon to have elemental abilities, so he would not follow the steps of his predecessor. Still, Cynder felt sorry for Spyro, for the people he grew up with, his own parents, who were supposed to care about him and love him no matter what were actually treating him as if he was a thing and not a person.
It just so wrong, and it made her just so angry! How people could be so horrible? What would take a person to do something like that? It could only have something wrong with these two to treat their own child the way they did!
However, Cynder knew that there was nothing she could do about it, so she only sighed and told to Spyro to use well the water they had, and the purple dragon nodded at her, and she walked, to take care of the other sores of the house, and to search for that little glowing fly so she could "have a little word with him", as she had said herself, though Spyro doubted that this "talk" would remain only in words, and he almost felt sorry for the dragonfly.
Sighing to himself, Spyro finally put himself to work. The plates were easy to clean, and he didn't had the problem of someone rushing him to get the job done, or to make nasty remarks about him or the way he did things, or someone who would purposely come and dirty all the plates he had just cleaned only to tell him to clean them again. Terrador and Nova did it almost all the time, and that was another reason why Spyro was happy that they were not around anymore to bother him.
In comparison to have been practically their slave during all of these years, ding a little sores around Yuri's house was really something easy, even relaxing. It helped him to focus on something and forget the problems which were upon him in the moment, like Yuri having been taken. It had been what, three, four hours ago? Maybe even five! Spyro was still having troubles to believe that it had happened, but he was actually not surprised for hearing that this kind of thing had already happened before, and Yuri was able to find his way out of the situation.
In a way, it made him feel a little better, for it meant that Yuri would be able to find his way out of that one as well, and that he would return home and they would resume their lives. However, even the feeling of relief for thinking that Yuri would get out of that one was snuffed out by the nger that Spyro felt for knowing that people would actually do that kind of thing to Yuri.
Searching for excuses to arrest him? How could they be so horrible!? Yuri has done nothing wrong! He never hurt anybody! Well, maybe Blast and his stupid friends, but they were the ones how started it, and Yuri was only defending them!
The more Spyro actually thought about it, the angrier he became with the people in Warfang for being so horrible to the wolf who raised him and who would never truly hurt even a fly. Yuri was a wonderful person and the citizens of Warfang simply refused to see it because they were too busy paying attention to the thing that, in their opinion, made the wolf be a disgusting individual. Just like people always paid attention to who Cynder's father was, and just like they paid attention to his colors.
They thought that they could use these things to measure them and to define who they were, without even knowing them. They judged and condemned them without having ever even talked to them for long enough to get to actually know them. This was just so wrong!
Spyro had finished washing and drying the dishes, and he had just put the last one back in the storage, and now he was sighing as he simply stood there, trying to take deep breaths to calm himself down. Spyro had so many wishes right them.
He wished that he was stronger, so he could go to there and take Yuri back home by force, and give a lesson in these imbeciles who thought that they could treat him like that. He wished that he could fly, so he could take Yuri far away from that damned city, to a place where they would be able to live in peace and away from these arrogant bastards and from people who would mistreat them. Spyro wished that he knew how to use elemental powers, so he would be able to give a lesson in everyone who tried to mess with Yuri, Cynder, and who else truly cared about him.
Spyro wished that he could make them all pay.
But he couldn't. Spyro knew pretty well that he was ridiculous in comparison to most dragons. He was small, he was skinny, he didn't knew how to use properly any element, and he still failed miserably into any kind of fighting that he tried to do. He had no chance of making these guys pay for what they were doing to them.
This only made Spyro feel more depressed, and he simply walked out of the kitchen.
The purple dragon walked in direction to his room with slow steps, and in the way, he was called.
"Spyro."
The purple dragon turned his head to look at the black dragoness, who was looking at him, and Cynder said, "You finished the dishes?"
"Yeah." Was Spyro's simple answer, "I'm going to my room." And he continued to walk in direction to it, but Cynder stopped him.
"It is still about Yuri?" She asked him, and the purple dragon looked at her. After a while, he finally sighed again, and he said, "I just can't accept it!"
Cynder looked at him as he said that, and the purple dragon continued. "How can they treat Yuri like that? How can they treat anyone like that? It is just so wrong! I just cannot accept it! I wish I was stronger to make them pay!"
This last phrase made Cynder really worried. She approached the purple dragon slowly, and she said, "Spyro, do you think it would actually solve anything?"
Spyro looked at her, as if he did not understood her question, and Cynder looked back at him, straight in the eyes, and she said, "Spyro, I know what you are feeling, believe me. I don't know how many times I wanted to hurt people for what they did to Yuri, for the way they talked to him and even for they having already tried to hurt him."
"But Yuri had told me a long time that I should not do that." She looked at the ground as she said it, "He said that it would not solve anything. Hurting them and making them feel bad was not going to make me feel better, and it was not going to bring anything good to me. They would still treat Yuri the way they did, and also, they would be scared of me."
She looked up again, looking at the purple dragon in the eyes. "We all know what is like to be an outcast, and we know that it can make you angry and sad. But, being violent and acting as a monster won't solve anything."
Somehow, Spyro felt that her words were true. He just felt it, and he didn't knew exactly how to explain the feeling. He just knew that they were true, for he could feel it deep inside his own heart.
"Yuri always said that the best thing we could do was to keep living our lives." She said to him. "He says that we must focus not on what everybody says, but in the opinion of the people who are truly important to us." She looked at him as he said that. "People who we respect and admire, people who care for us, and who don't judge us by our species, colors, by where we come from, or by the options we have made. People who judge us by our heart. These opinions are the ones that really matter."
She was able to smile at Spyro as she said that, "Do you get what I'm saying?"
As Spyro looked at that smile, and at these shining green eyes, Spyro could feel his cheeks heating, at the same time that he could swear that his heart was beating slightly faster than normal. He was only able to nod at her, and he was able to smile too.
She seemed to become happy by hearing it, and she placed a paw over Spyro's. At that moment, Spyro felt like his heart had suddenly started to make mortal flips. "It is going to be okay." Cynder said to him, offering her best and most sincere smile, just like Yuri had probably done for her lots of times when she was feeling the way that Spyro was now. "It is all going to be okay, you will see."
Spyro was able to smile and nod more, as his face was heating much more, and the purple dragon didn't knew why.
Suddenly, they both heard, "Ohhh, how cute!"
They both snapped their heads to look at Sparx, who was smiling as he looked at the two young dragons from a hiding spot that he was just in. The dragonfly looked at both of them as they looked surprised at him. For how long had Sparx been watching?
"You two are just so cute together." Sparx said as he looked at the two dragons, who looked back at him. Spyro could feel his cheeks heating very much, and he was now pretty sure that he was blushing. Maybe Cynder was too, but it was hard to tall with her dark scales, but she seemed not to like the commentaries that the dragonfly was making.
"Don't you have anything else to do?" She asked him angrily, letting go of Spyro's paw, and the dragonfly simply shrugged and said, "Nah, things are pretty slow here, and this is kinda fun."
The impression that Spyro had was that Cynder was ready to pounce at the dragonfly. Sparx flew to them, and he stood floating next to Spyro. "Yah know, I had just heard what yah say, and I agree with the wolf, you must not care for what they say."
Sparx looked at Spyro as he spoke that, "Trust me, hearing to what other people say is overestimated. Let them think what they want, if you are you and you are happy with it, then screw them!"
Spyro looked at Sparx, and the dragonfly seemed to be quite sure of what he was saying, "I mean, it is not like they can tell you what to do with your own life, right?" The dragonfly said, and Cynder couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. Now the dragonfly was basically repeating what Cynder had just told him, but in a far more direct way.
"If they don't want you around? Good! You don't need to be around people who don't want you around! Just go with the motions of the wind and let it be your guide!" The dragonfly said as he made a wide gesture with his hand as the other help onto Spyro's horn, as someone putting the arm around someone's shoulder. Now the dragonfly was talking juts like a traveler, what the two young dragons reminded that he probably was.
"You just have to be careful with the winds, because they change direction when you less expect and they can blow you in direction to a spider's web."
Cynder sighed, and she said, "Well, I guess we can continue to care for the house now, we have work to do."
"Aw, seriously?" Asked Sparx, "I have been working all day! My arms and wings hurt! Look, they are about to fall off!" He said, making his arms look as if they were limp and hanging, almost as if they were broken or unutilized.
"Oh, stop being such a baby!" Cynder said, and she said, "We still have things to do around here, and you better start now." She said, and with that, the two young dragons and dragonfly resumed their work.
In fact, there was more to do in the house than just cleaning and cooking. They also had to make the beds and make sure that they were nice, and they had to put all the dust out of the house, and there was work to be done in the outside too. In the backyards there were the crops that Yuri had planted, with the fruits and herbs that he raised. They needed to water it, to pick out any parasite that was in there, like weeds and small insects, to make sure that the crops were not going to be destroyed, and they also needed to pick up the smaller and weaker ones in order to help them to grow better. Also, they needed to chop and gather wood for the fireplace, to make sure that they would be able to use it if the night got too could or if there was actually the need. By the way, it was also needed to clean the fireplace, by gathering all of the ashes left in it and throw it away (they kept it so they would bury it and turn it into fertilizer for the plants of the crops) and then clean carefully the fireplace to make sure that it was ready to be used again.
Wow… Spyro never imagined that such a small house would require so much work. He was still surprised for knowing that, during years, Yuri and Cynder had done it all alone. At each passing day it seemed that his respect for the wolf and the black dragoness only grew more and more as the more he knew about them. They were such amazing people, and Spyro knew it pretty well. He was sure that people from Warfang would think the same way if they knew them just like Spyro was coming too. If they at least gave them a chance, they would see that they were good people.
They had just finished cleaning the fire place and caring for the crops, when Sparx finally said, "I can't hold on anymore!" He screamed to the skies as he dropped to the ground, wheezing, as if for all the effort that he had made. The dragonfly seemed to be overly dramatic, and that was another thing that both Spyro and Cynder were able to notice about him.
They walked to the dragonfly and stood over him as he continued to breath heavily. The small glowing bug looked up at them and he said, "Find me a wife… and tell her I love her…" He spoke as if he was dying out, and on his final moments. The two dragons shared a look, and Cynder said, "You need to be so dramatic?"
Sure, she didn't felt so tired, and neither did Spyro. They both were used to the thing of caring for a house, both from different experiences, but Sparx, by what seemed, never had too much of that worry, and the experience was new and exhausting to him.
"How do you guys… keep… it up?" He said as he wheezed, and his answer from both dragons was the same thing:
"Used to it."
Sparx sighed in defeat as he seemed as if he was ready to faint and let sleep take over him. Cynder looked at Spyro, and she said, "Yeah, I think it is all for now."
The purple dragon nodded, and he too felt slightly tired now that they were done. Caring for houses was a hard work, and Spyro was fully aware of this by the years he spent caring for a house. However, he didn't felt as tired as he usually felt, for now, he was not doing it all alone. Now he had people to help him, and that made things a lot easier. Still, he purple dragon was glad that the work was done, and he was actually quite proud of himself, a thing that he usually didn't had many chances to feel, with the work he was able to do along with Cynder and Sparx.
"So, what do you want to do now?" Asked Cynder to the purple dragon, while the dragonfly was already snoring in the ground, and Spyro said, "Well, maybe we should take him sinde first and then we can do something else."
Cynder nodded, and she looked at the dragonfly, which was snoring in the ground. "Seriously, will he do anything besides sleeping? What a lazy tail."
Spyro was able to chuckle a little, yeah, it seemed that the dragonfly had far less stamina than they did, and he got tired pretty easily. Spyro wondered if Sparx was used to fool around a lot and to sleep at any time he wanted. Maybe it came from living out there on your own? But Yuri made so for a long time, and he was not like that. Well, it was possible that this dragonfly in particular was just like that, that it was his personality. Well, if it was a good or bad things, Spyro was actually not able to tell, but he could tell that it actually made Sparx been interesting. Also, he thought the dragonfly to be funny.
So, they both took the dragonfly inside, and they laid him in the bed that Yuri had prepared for him, and the dragonfly was mumbling in his sleep. "No, mama, I don't want to bath…"
So, the two young dragons looked at each other, and Cynder said, "Wanna play tag?"
"Sure!" Spyro said, and soon, they were both on the outside, once more playing along as two kids. Spyro didn't had chances to play when he was little. Terrador and nova kept him working as a slave for them full time, and also, Spyro didn't had any friends who would actually want to play with them. Since the first day, playing was somewhat of a new concept to him, a new experience that he had come to like and to enjoy. The purple dragon was happy that he was able to do something with someone who actually enjoyed his company, and who made his day become better by being there for him.
Once again, as Spyro played with Cynder, all of his worries vanished from his mind. No Terrador. No Nova. No Warfang and the arrogant citizens. Now there was only he and Cynder, both of them playing and laughing and acting without a care in the world. For the first time in his life, Spyro was actually being a child. Sure, he was already teenager, but he was finally acting as a child, and he was being happy and careless as a child was supposed to be, instead of worried and scared like he had been living with these two dragons who hated him.
Now he was having fun with someone who cared for him and who he cared for. It was just enough to make him so happy, and it made him feel like his heart was soaring high into the sky, and that was a feeling that Spyro wanted to never go away. Spyro loved being near the people who cared for him and who actually liked him. People who didn't not judged him by the color of his scales and who wanted him to only be himself and to be as happy as he could.
These people saw what was good in him. Yuri, Cynder, and now Sparx. They all saw what was good in him and they did not judged him for being a purple dragon, they only wanted him to be happy, and they all, in their own way, cared about him and wanted to have him around. Spyro liked them for it. He admired and respected them from it. And that was not the fear that he ahd felt for Terrador and Nova during years, which he had constantly mistaken by respect. No. Now he knew what true respect was like. Spyro was not afraid of any of them, but he respected them more than he probably ever respected any other person before.
They were the people who Spyro actually cared about. Their opinion was the only one that really mattered to him.
And Spyro knew that the opinion that they had about him, was just a good one.
