Chapter Fifty: Goodbye

- P.O.V.

I look at the baby girl in the crib sleeping soundly. She's so small and adorable I completely melted. She kicks her little legs and whimpers. It's been exactly three hours since she last ate. I grab a bottle and pick her up. I cradle her in my arms and put the nipple of the bottle to her perfectly heart shaped mouth.

She starts to suckle after a bit of difficulty. I chuckle as she cuddles closer. She looks absolutely cute with her purple onesie. Definitely reminding me of Chase and Adam.

"You knew," I say calmly.

"What are you doing here?" He asks leaning on the door frame.

"Douglas Davenport didn't mean to be manipulated," I reply ignoring his question.

"What?"

"Krane got too powerful and apparently gained a manipulation bionic power," I explain.

"He was being used?" Mr. Davenport asks shocked.

"Yes, though what surprises me is that you knew about Chase and Adam," I continue.

He doesn't answer.

"You knew and still made them break up."

"I did," he agrees.

"Why?" I turn to face him.

"Because I knew that Chase was-"

"Pregnant?"

"Not my first thought. I just got angry that they wouldn't trust me enough to tell me," he sighs.

"Can you blame them?"

"Honestly? No, and then we found out he was pregnant because his DNA was changed due to the explosion. I'm just glad I decided to let them back together right on time. It was good timing," he chuckles.

"I'm glad too...about everything," I nod.

"Krane is stabilized and in jail along with Douglas-"

"He's out. Douglas, I mean," I inform.

"Then what will you do now?" He questions.

I simply shrug.

"They all miss you, you know?" He adds.

"I know...but I can't come back to the life I had before...it's not who I am," I say.

He steps in to the room and pats my shoulder.

"I won't tell them," he promises.

"Thank you," I smile sadly.

"If you need anything or anyone to talk to, we're right here. We're family."

I transfer Audrey to his arms carefully. She whines a bit but settles back into her grandpa's hold. Who would've thought?

"I'll think about it. Douglas and I will be fine, away from this mess."

"I'm glad you're okay though...believe it or not I wish I could've saved you a long time ago," he assures.

"I know. Now watch over them. And protect them. Be the dad I wish I could have had," I pat his back in return.

"I will."

"Goodbye Mr. Davenport."

I walk out the door and smile. I notice Chase and Adam sleeping peacefully. I will admit I'm going to miss this. For a moment I had a family. Someone that cared and in return I saved them. I saved my family. I close their room door and walk down the hall way.

Once outside I look back at the mansion reminiscing about the times I used to come and go. The times I used to watch over them. The times I pretended to be their friend and many others. It's hard to say goodbye. I've had to say it three times but without any words.

This is were the story ends. At least mine. There are many more chapters in their life I 'll miss like watching Audrey grow up. However, I'm glad I got to meet her.

"Ready?" Douglas asks.

"As I'll ever be," I smile.

His arm goes over my shoulders in a fatherly gesture.

"We'll be back. Maybe for Thanksgiving or Christmas," he laughs.

"I know we will," I laugh as well.

"We'll start new. Fresh! A clean start for everyone!"

I'm thankful for the time I had with my "family". I'll take the best of them and lead by their example wherever I go. The thing is someone told me to be honest. So here it goes...this wasn't what I wanted. Maybe it's because I finally understand. There are things we don't want to happen, but have to accept. Things we don't want to know, but have to learn. And people we can't live without, but have to let go. This is what life is. And I'll start a new one.

"This is family," I whisper.

"It is and because of rivalry between us we were separated," Douglas agrees.

"Thanks for trying...dad."

"Anytime kid."

We continue to walk until we can't see the mansion anymore. Only figments of memories left behind. And new ones to create.

"So I was thinking of buying a new home and building a lab for your updates and things like that.." He continues.

"Maybe you can build yourself up again," I suggest.

"That's my boy," he praises.

"Too far dad..I'm not a dog," I joke.

We break into fits of laughter. This is life. The good one. Not the one we led for years when I was still small. I finally feel at ease. In peace. I feel...normal.

"A final farewell to good old times?" He asks once we arrive at an old warehouse.

I smirk and nod.

"Would you do the honors?"

I grab the remote he offered and hold it tight in my hand.

"My pleasure."

I press the red button and the house explodes. Douglas...I mean my dad and I put our shades on and walk away from the the destruction. Like real bad asses. The flames engulf everything in its path. Everything that we once knew. Evil. But it's different now. Because we're so good. I don't feel trapped anymore.

"Welcome back...Marcus."

The End~
