I'm so sorry I haven't updated in a while. I didn't know what to write next but I'll try to keep up my writing.

Disclaimer: I do not own Tangled or The Hunger Games.

The tributes are forced to stand on their metal circles for sixty seconds before the sounds of a gong releases them. If you step off early, land mines will blow your legs off. Eugene looks towards the Cornucopia that is overflowing with life sustaining objects. Food, containers of water, weapons, medicine, garments, fire starters. Strewn around the Cornucopia are other supplies. Their values decreasing with each step farther away from the Cornucopia.

The tributes are on a flat, open stretch of ground. To Eugene's right, there is a lake. To his left and behind him is the woods. He sees the mounds of weapons and his fingers begin to itch for them. He tells himself that he should listen to Shorty. But then again, Shorty could be wrong. He was wrong at the interviews.

Eugene's eyes wander around to the other tributes where he finds Rapunzel just a few feet away. With one look, he can tell she knows what he's thinking about because she shakes her head at him. The gong rings out and he runs towards an orange backpack before heading for the forest. He almost stops when he sees Aurora, the girl from District 10, get brutally slaughtered.

He stops when he reaches the beginning of the forest. His eyes dart around the field to catch a glimpse of Rapunzel. To make sure she's alright. He finds her about a hundred feet away cowering in place as Jasmine gets ready to plunge a dagger into her.

He considers leaving her and running into the safety of the forest. But something about seeing her in danger makes something snap inside of him. He dashes over to her but he's too slow. He can't reach her in time.

He sees Jasmine plunge the dagger downwards. Rapunzel swings the frying pan, hitting the hand with the dagger in it. The dagger falls out of her grasp. Jasmine grabs the frying pan with her other hand to stop Rapunzel from swinging again. Eugene reaches them, smashing his backpack into Jasmine's face. She staggers back in surprise, letting go of the frying pan. Rapunzel gives a swift swing to the side of Jasmine's head. She falls down unconscious.

Eugene grabs the dagger, takes Rapunzel by hand, and runs into the safety of the woods.

"You grabbed a frying pan?" says Eugene incredulously as they run through the forest.

"It was the closest thing to me," she explains. "I didn't think I would be seeing much of you in the arena and I need some kind of protection."

"But really? A frying pan?" he says. "C'mon, Blondie. You could've done so much better." She rolls her eyes at him.

Rapunzel is soon out of breath. She's never run so much in her whole life. There isn't a lot of space to run in District 12 unless it's in the street and her step-mother has been adamant to make sure Rapunzel knows that running in the streets is uncivilized.

Eugene, who catches on to her heavy breathing, slows down into a walk to give her time to catch her breath. Soon, they hear five resounding cannons echo throughout the arena. Each cannon represents a dead tribute. The fighting at the cornucopia must have stopped.

"Only five?" Eugene asks. He is surprised. Usually, most of the tributes are eradicated in the cornucopia bloodbath.

"That leaves seventeen more," Rapunzel replies. He notices she doesn't count him in.

"C'mon, let's pick up the pace," says Eugene. They jog deeper into the woods. After an hour, they sit down to rest. Eugene rummages through his backpack. There is one thin black sleeping bag that reflects body heat, a pack of dried beef strips, a bottle of iodine, a pack of crackers, a box of wooden matches, a small coil of wire, and an empty half-gallon plastic bottle with a cap for carrying water.

He puts all the items back in the bag. They get up, ready to move again. A ruffle in the bushes stops them. Eugene pulls out the dagger, just incase he has to defend himself. Rapunzel, who is frightened at the thought of fighting another tribute, nervously jumps onto his back without thinking and holds out her frying pan in front of them.

"Do I look like a human bodyguard to you?" Eugene whispers harshly to her.

"I'm getting ready to fight," she whispers back.

"Glad to know this is how we'll die," whispers Eugene. He carefully inches forward towards the bush.

"What is it? Mutts? Other tributes? Have they come for me?" Rapunzel says. He kicks the bush only to get a rabbit to hop out of it.

"Stay calm. It can probably smell fear," says Eugene.

"Really?"

"No! Not really!"

She shakily gets down and apologizes for jumping on him. Her nerves have her on edge. The thought that anyone can come and kill her has Rapunzel in a wreck. She can't think straight. If she was able to think straight, she wouldn't have believed that rabbit would be able to smell her fear. Granted, she has a very good reason to believe the rabbit could be a muttation. There have been several different scenes of normal looking animals that turned to muttations in the previous games.

They walk until twilight and both of them are nervous. The trees are too thin to offer any proper concealment. The pine needles that muffle their footsteps also make it easier for others to sneak up on them. Rapunzel and Eugene are tired and hungry from all the running. They've been on the move all day. Eugene doesn't want to break into their store of crackers and beef just yet.

He takes his dagger and uses it to cut off the outer bark of a nearby pine tree. He scrapes off large handfuls of the softer inner bark. He gives half of it to Rapunzel to chew on while they walk.

They keep going until they reach a small clearing with fewer pine needles. Eugene walks ahead a few more minutes and sets two snares with the coil of wire. His stomach grumbles, making him regret that he let that rabbit go earlier.

They sleep in shifts. Eugene takes the first shift as Rapunzel rests. He gives her the sleeping bag. She nestles up next to a large tree, curled up with her frying pan. The sleeping bag keeps her warm as the night cools. She can see Eugene shiver against the wind.

"Do you want to take the sleeping bag?" she asks.

"No, I'm good." Eugene turns his back on her. They look towards the sky when they hear the anthem that proceeds the death recap. They see the seal of the Capitol that appears to be floating in the night sky. The head shots of the fallen tributes are shown with their district numbers underneath.

First comes up John Smith from District 7. That means no one from 1 through 6 has been killed. Next comes up is the boy, Charming, from District 8. Aurora from District 10. Lastly comes Tiana and Naveen from District 11. The Capitol seal comes back with a final musical note before the darkness and the sounds of the forest resume.

Eugene wakes her up after three hours. Fatigue takes over his body. He can't stay awake much longer. The warmth of the sleeping bag brings immediate relief to his freezing body. He tells her to wake him up as soon as she hears something before dozing off into blissful sleep.

Rapunzel sits next to his sleeping form, frying pan by her side. She's afraid of being alone in the dark. Well, she isn't completely alone. The thought of Eugene right next to her is comforting. If anything were to happen, he would be there for her.

Snap! She hears twigs breaking about two hundred yards to her right. Snap! Snap! She can hear footsteps getting closer to her. She frantically shakes Eugene awake.

"Eugene! Wake up! Wake up!" she whispers harshly. He gets up for a second, mumbles something, and goes back to sleep. She shakes him harder.

"I heard someone!" whispers Rapunzel.

"Rapunzel, I swear if this is another rabbit –"

"It's not! Listen!" she says. Now he hears the footsteps. Eugene quickly gets out of the sleeping bag and puts it in the backpack. He draws out his dagger and motions for Rapunzel to stay quiet. The footsteps are light. He assumes it's a girl. He walks closer to the moving body, getting ready to fight. That's when he hears the others. There are eight more bodies coming their way. Eugene quietly makes his way back to Rapunzel.

"There's too many of them," he whispers. "Get ready to run if we have to."

She nods her head. They slowly move away from the clearing, careful not to make any noise. From between the trees, they can make out the nine figures. One of the figures is struggling while the others look through her stuff.

"Nice to see you again, Cinderella," says Eric, the boy from District 4.

"You people are sick!" Cinderella screams at them. The boy from District 5, Hercules, is holding her in place. She tries to fight against his grip. They just laugh at her measly attempts of escape.

"That's no way to talk," says Eric.

He walks in front of her, a trident in his hand. He sends it piercing through her small body. Her screams mixed with the sound of the cannon echoes through the arena. Eric pulls the trident out. Hercules drops the dead body onto the floor. The group laughs as they head in the opposite direction of Rapunzel and Eugene.

The scream shakes Rapunzel to her core. The fact that they could just easily kill Cinderella, who wasn't threatening in any way, frightens her. She has always been scared of the games but at home, she could pretend that they weren't real. Now she's living them. She is stuck in an arena full of killers who could easily take her out.

"Hey, you ok?" Eugene asks her. He sees her shaking uncontrollably.

"T-They killed her. T-they j-just killed her," she says, her voice breaking. He pulls her into an embrace. She cries silently into his shirt. He rubs her back and whispers "It's going to be okay," over and over again until she settles down. If it were anyone else, Eugene would have probably snapped at them to shut up. This kind of thing is to be expected in the Games and crying about it will only get them caught. But Rapunzel looks so vulnerable that he just can't bring himself to tell her to quiet down. Plus, he figures he can use this to play the part of the caring boyfriend.

Once she calms down enough, they start moving quietly through the forest. He leads them towards where he set the snares. He doesn't want the coil to go to waste.

It takes some time to find the snares in the dark. After some struggling, he manages to find and take them apart. One of the snares has already caught a rabbit. He puts the coil and rabbit in the pack. It's too dark for him to be able to skin the rabbit properly. He'll do it when the sun comes out.

They walk for another hour before finding another resting place. Rapunzel takes the first shift. After everything that's happened so far, it's not like she'll be able to sleep anyway.

Thank you Whylie04 for your suggestion. I talked with a few people and we found it better not to separate them right away but I took what you said under careful consideration.

I reenacted some of these scenes with my brother to make sure they worked. So, imagine my brother with a butter knife and me attacking him with a frying pan. It was a lot of fun! As always, suggestions are welcome! It helps me write. So, if you want updates, try to send me some suggestions.
