"That actually went well," I said with surprise in my. Marco and I walked along, side-by-side, while he counted out the money we had gotten from The Snuggly Duckling to give me my share. I tried to tell him I didn't want any, a mental reaction from not needing money before, but now I realize d that I was on my own.
"See? I told you, Evy," Marco said, showing me my half and placing it in a part of his satchel since I didn't have anything to hold it in. We both agreed he'd hold it for me while we made our way to the next city, and there he would buy me a bag, since he had more money saved up than I did. Not to mention, he knew if he tried to make off with my money, I'd just hurt him.
That day flew by rather quickly, the both of us unable to help but laugh as we joked around and talked. He told me about his first pet, which was a lizard, and I told him about always going ice skating with my aunt, having a snowball fight with my father, or drinking hot cocoa with my mother. He seemed to enjoy the way I spoke about my family.
"But, if you loved them so much, why did you leave?" he asked, looking at me with serious and sad green eyes. Every few minutes, he would sing either a small melody or a full song, and I didn't really know why; it seemed that he simply liked to sing, often.
"It's . . ." I didn't answer as I tried to think. I couldn't find my words as I walked, so I sat down on a stump, sighing.
"Complicated?" he asked, sitting down in front of me in the grass. I nodded, and Marco said again, "I know what you mean. I was always close with my parents too. But, they want me to do things I simply cannot do."
I didn't pry on the last part, knowing that I was actually in a similar situation. However, I wanted to know what he had to say, so I asked a question I would have liked to been asked myself. "Marco, why didn't you just tell them that you couldn't do whatever they wanted you to?"
He rose a dark blonde brown then and looked up at me as he was leaning back on his palms in the grass, his legs stretched out. "I did," he said. "They said they'd think it over, but my mother is . . . Well, she's very sick, and the only known cure is in the city I'm heading to. That's why I'm going. However, it is also very expensive, so that's why I've been doing these shows."
Oh, great. He's actually a noble guy and all that I am is a terrible, spoiled daughter who threw a hissy fit when I found out my parents wanted me to marry someone I didn't know. Sure, it would have been a lot to ask, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it was really that bad. I mean, I could have simply dealt with it; Rapunzel and Eugene are wonderful people, so Link must have been too. Right . . .?
Kristoff's POV:
"Link is missing!"
Anna and I had been standing outside of the Corona palace, having been standing watch there for quite some time, in the hope that Christa would come back. Not only that, but Sven and Olaf were missing, and I knew she must have taken them with her, wherever she went.
"What was that?" I turned and looked at Rapunzel, who was red-faced and breathing heavily, looking upset. Eugene was beside her, looking just as distraught and worried.
"Link. He's gone!" Rapunzel looked on the verge of a breakdown, so Anna hurried over and put an arm around her closest friend, looking worried. "We told him that you were coming with Christa, and that we had wanted the two of them to meet. He didn't want to be forced into an arranged marriage either, so we told him that we would bring Christa to meet up with him."
"This morning," Eugene started. "He wanted to go into town to get something from a shop and give bread out to those that needed it—he does so quite often, just like we used to when he was small—but he never returned."
Well, I hope you guys liked it! Sorry for taking so long to make a new chapter; moving, school, job, the usual bumps in the road. I just wanted to let you all know that when I started this, Disney hadn't released yet (or maybe I just didn't hear) that Anna and Rapunzel's mothers were sisters, making them cousins. In this fanfiction, they are merely friends, and there is no incest meant to happen for Link and Christa by being in an arrange marriage as second cousins.
Have a happy and safe day, and for those in America, Happy Memorial Day!
