Kakashi was wrong when he said that Naruto never read.

When she was a little girl Naruto did read, slowly and desperately she would read stories about love and family. Two things that she desperately wanted, but never had.

As Naruto grew up she realized that what she was fighting against was bigger than an evil stepmother or dragon could ever be and she would have to fight it by herself. She gave up on the stupid princesses and decided that she would be a ninja.

As she pursued her dreams she found that family is more than who you have blood ties to. Iruka-sensei, Kakashi-sensei, Ero-sennin, Baa-chan, and various others. Now there was only one thing missing in Naruto's life … someone to share it with.

Naruto never really looked for love, she didn't really think that she was ever destined for it.

"Dobe what are you doing with that kunai?" Sasuke said approaching Naruto from behind.

"I'm cutting my hair teme, what does it look like?" Naruto responded, releasing the hold she had on her locks and letting them fall around her.

"Why?" Sasuke said with a scowl. Stopping to stand on top of some mossy rocks.

"Sakura said it was getting too long and it was hitting her in the face."

"Maybe she should consider it training and learn to avoid your hair if it's bothering her so much. She needs to learn how to properly defend herself."

"Oy, Sasuke aren't you being a little too harsh? Sakura is training to be a med-nin. I see her reading all the time."

"If she's training to be a med-nin then she should stay in the hospital honing her skills instead of insisting on joining team 7 for missions. Having a team mate that can do little to protect herself or others is a hindrance."

"But, if one of us gets hurt then she can be there to heal." Naruto retorted.

"The chances of harm greatly increase when she's around. Getting a paper cut when successfully delivering a mission scroll is something I can survive. Having a kunai slash my brachial artery when defending that girl might not be so easy."

"Oh, Sasuke you're so mean to her." Naruto said with a pout. "She really likes you, ya know. The only reason she comes on our missions anymore is to be around you. All she wants is to be acknowledged by you. Do you like her?"

"I…I like her at times, but I will never expresses the same amount of devotion she has for me to her." Sasuke said

"Why?" Naruto asked, arching her head up to look up at Sasuke as he came closer.

"I like someone else." Sasuke stated with a mysterious look in his eye.

"Who?" Naruto asked, feeling her heart speed up as Sasuke crouched down to eye level.

"Just someone." Sasuke murmured, reaching out to grab a lock of Naruto's blonde hair. He wrapped the end of around his fingers, entranced by how surprisingly soft it was. He tugged on it gently before raising it up to his lips for a kiss.

"Don't cut your hair, dobe. I like it the way it is." Sasuke said releasing her hair before standing up and slowly walking away.

Naruto was silenced by her shock. Her face as red as a tomato.

"TEME, you can't tell me what to do!"

…But, it didn't last for long.
