NEVER KNEW
CHAPTER 19
Turning the key in the lock on his apartment door, Deeks hauled up his bags from the floor, almost getting knocked over by Monty as he bolted through to get in.
"Gee Monty, slow down there boy!" Deeks cried.
He walked to the bedroom, throwing the bags on the bed before sitting down and kicking off his shoes. The flight back from Norway had been long, with the team having a restless ride due to several storms hovering out over the oceans, giving them what seemed like endless turbulence.
Walking to the kitchen, Deeks opened the fridge door, grabbing out a beer. He twisted off the lid and ambled over to the couch, flopping down with a sigh. He snatched up the remote, flicking through the channels to find some mindless dribble to watch that wouldn't tax his brain.
He heard a soft knock at the door;
"Hey" Kensi softly whispered.
"Hey yourself" Deeks replied. He cocked his head, trying to gauge if she was still a little mad at him. "So am I still in your bad books?"
"A little" she smiled as she walked in. "Got any more of those left?" she pointed at Deeks' beer.
"Sure" Deeks smiled, as he took another beer from the fridge.
Kensi had plonked down on the couch, idly flipping the channels before landing on a favourite show.
"Here" he handed her the beer.
"Thanks"
The room became quiet; the low drone of the female host of the entertainment program was the only noise in the background.
"Kens" Deeks started;
"Deeks" Kensi too began to speak.
They looked at each other with a smile and a chuckle escaped their lips.
"You go first Fern" Deeks waved dramatically.
Kensi sat herself a bit straighter, before taking a breath; "You trust me right?"
"Of course I do Kens, how could you think I don't?"
"Perhaps the fact that you took off to the other side of the world with just a note and barely an explanation!" Kensi cried. "A 'don't worry I'm fine' note doesn't cut it Deeks and the thought of you out there on your own is like a red rag to a bull. You know I'm going to want to help you"
"Kensi, I am sorry. I…" Deeks sighed heavily. "Okay when I found out that my mom had this connection I didn't know about I got curious. My dad was an asshole, that's putting it politely. I had a pretty good relationship with my mom for a while. Well up until she up and left when I was fourteen, but that's another story. This was a part of my life and my past I had never knew and now…now I'm glad to put it behind me"
"When I was looking for my father's killer, you came and helped me at my mom's garage, remember?" Kensi asked.
Deeks nodded.
"You told me that you were my partner and you weren't going to let me do this by myself"
Deeks chuckled, "you still went off alone anyway"
"I called you just before I went to see Megan. I…I didn't say anything…I" Kensi faltered.
Deeks grabbed her hand, "I knew it was you" he whispered.
"I just needed to hear your voice. Deeks your voice kept me going that day. I promised myself that the day you needed me to help you I would be there"
"Kens, you were there! You and Callen and Sam all came to Norway to save my ass. I'm forever grateful for that".
"No Deeks you're not getting it. I wanted you to call me. I wanted you to tell me you needed me…I"
Kensi felt a tear escape an eye, quickly swiping it away. Deeks scooted closer to his partner, pulling her into an embrace.
"My sweet Kensi. Now you're not getting it. Don't you realise you are it for me? It's you. It's always been you and I'll always need you and want you. This thing we have Kens, it's real. I'm sorry I worried you and I promise I'll tell you when I need your kick-ass Kensi skills at my disposal"
"Deeks?" Kensi looked up at him.
"Yeah?"
"I've thought of something you can do to make it up to me" she smiled.
Deeks thought the smile looked vaguely like a mischievous smile.
"Okay lay it on me Princess. What devilish plan have you got up your sleeve for me?"
"There is one thing I want" Kensi admitted.
"What is it? Twinkies? Ice cream? Donuts? A spar in the gym to kick your ass? Tell me!" Deeks laughed.
"A kiss" Kensi whispered.
"I'm sorry; did I just hear you right?" Deeks' eyes grew wide.
"Forget it Deeks" Kensi mumbled and moved to stand up.
Deeks' strong hands curled around her wrists, as he pulled her back down on the couch. Placing his right hand to her cheek, he drew in close, stopping just shy of her lips, "A kiss I can do" he huskily whispered before encasing his lips with hers.
Deeks heard a small gasp as he kissed but smiled as she responded greedily to his touch. Her slender fingers curled into his hair as his arms snaked around her hips.
"So what's the deal here Kens? First base? Second base? Third?" Deeks asked, as he nibbled her neck.
"You keep telling me how good you are with the ladies Shaggy" Kensi said, as she frowned when a moan escaped from her.
"Oh I am Princess. I've had no complaints in my time" Deeks mumbled
"Time to step up to the plate Deeks. Prove it to me" Kensi challenged with a smirk.
"Okay you are going to get the full Deeks charm" Deeks grinned, as he threw off his shirt. "I hope you're ready Fern!"

The morning sun's rays found a hole in the blinds of Deeks' bedroom, landing directly into the Detective's eyes. Rubbing them as he opened them, he heard Kensi talking softly to Monty, before a loud "Shit!" erupted from the kitchen.
"You okay there Princess?" Deeks yelled out.
"Fine! Just stay there!" Kensi called back.
Deeks lay back down, recalling the night before with a smile. He heard Monty's snort before seeing Kensi in one of his shirts, balancing a tray in her hands.
"Wow what's all this?" Deeks sat up and adjusted the pillows.
"Breakfast" Kensi smiled.
"I can see that. Kens this is amazing!"
"Just don't expect this every time" she narrowed her eyes.
He picked up a piece of toast, very very browned. "I'm guessing that was what the very loud 'shit' was for?"
"Sorry about that" she sighed.
Deeks laughed, "Kens", he stopped to give her a kiss, "Thank you"
"So what's planned for today?" Kensi asked as she pinched a bit of bacon.
"I was thinking of going to the cemetery to see mom. Then I was hoping to catch some waves"
"Want some company?"
"You bringing your bikini?" he wiggled his eyebrows.
Rolling her eyes, she wiped a bit of grease from Deeks' chin, "Seeing me in my underwear last night not enough for you?"
"Now that is a sight I'll never get tired of" Deeks grinned before landing his lips on hers.
