Weird.
That really was the only way she could describe it.
Jane called it sweet. Rosy said it was about time. Her dad and Iantha smiled and were all around way too proud of their new son-in-law.
But in Batty's mind, it was just weird.
Not bad-weird, not funny-weird, but just sort of strange.
Oh, she was happy about it. Jeffrey made just about the best brother-in-law she could ever ask for. But she still just couldn't get used to the idea of him and Skye together.
It had been a few months since the wedding (a marvelous wedding at which she had been a bridesmaid) so she should have gotten over her shock, but the idea of them being married still made her head spin.
Everything about it was weird.
The wedding rings on their fingers? Weird.
The way Jeffrey's Porsche was now their Porsche? Weird. (But really cool, too.)
The way his arm always seemed to be around her sister's waist? Weird.
The way her sister didn't seem to mind said arm? Really weird.
That her sister was now Mrs. Tifton? Way too weird.
That they were now married and therefor doing married things? She didn't even want to think about that. That went beyond weird and into the creepy category of things she never wanted to consider for as long as she lived.
She knew, deep down in her heart, that she would never get used to the sight of her sister and her best friend holding hands, or kissing, or even just smiling at each other in that secretive way that all couples have perfected.
She knew she would never not get goosebumps at the sight of Skye wearing Jeffrey's clothes. That she would never accept that Skye now stayed in the guest room whenever they visited instead of in her room with Jane where she belonged.
But she also knew that her sister was happy, really happy, and that made everything alright.
Because if Skye was happy, Jeffrey was happy, and she could deal with anything if her hero was happy.
Well, anything except for the kissing. That was always going to be weird.
(End.)
