"Not In Their League"
'Things People Don't Want To Hear'

Terry McGinnis was used to weird; over the years he'd developed a very high threshold for what something had to involve for him to consider it actually weird. Part of the cause behind that was his own being a crimefighter from the future of an another reality from where he now found himself. Having the famous 'Man of Steel' storm into the Batcave in a rare anger - one of his cousin's trailing behind trying to talk him down - and proceed to start verbally berating him for a simple observation didn't really register. After all, he'd shoved a green Kryptonite ring in another version of the man's face once.

When Superman had stopped for a moment, Terry launched a counter-attack; "Was there anything inaccurate about what I said, Clark?"

Normally, Bruce Wayne would have already verbally torn into Clark Kent for the way he'd arrived. This time, however, he was choosing to sit back and watch to see how the other Batman handled the situation. There was one piece of information that he hadn't gotten from Clark's ranting, however, that he needed to form a complete picture.

"What, exactly, did you say, McGinnis?"

Kara Zor-El - also known as Kara Kent and Supergirl - was the one to answer, "Karen knew I was planning to ask the new Green Arrow that's visiting from the future if he'd like to go eat somewhere and she deliberately asked him before I could. I was complaining about how we're always getting in each other's way and Terry happened to hear it and made an observation."

Bruce was impatient after that long and, in his view unnecessary, backstory, "Which was?"

"I pointed out that since they're basically the same person from different universes, of course they'd have similar tastes." Terry managed a smirk, "I may have also added something about finding someone they liked with a sane clone for the other one or some guy willing to go menage a tois and durable enough to survive two Kryptonian women - maybe even at once. I had to get back here for patrol after that; last I knew, she was still standing there stunned."

The senior partner of the two Batmen was thoughtful for a moment, then looked over at Clark, "Cruder than I would phrase it, but I can't argue the logic behind it."

Somewhat deflated, Clark huffed, "I hate you both, you know."

"Don't be silly, Clark, you don't hate anyone - even Luthor is usually more disappointment at how he uses his brains and fortune and frustration that he never gives up," Kara interjected.

"So you hate us," Bruce shrugged. "A famous general once said 'let them hate me so long as they fear me'. He was talking about the troops under his command when he said it."

Terry gave him a sideways look, "That actually explains so much about your training methods, Wayne."

Bruce spun his chair around to face the Batcomputer and opened a scheduling program, "Change next session of self-mutating strategic close combat training program to level... eight."

Both Kryptonians watched as the color changed from the 'Tomorrow Knight's face at that statement.

"Me and my big mouth," Terry muttered. "At least he's not taking over the training session himself..."

"Your boss scares you, but my cousin doesn't," Kara looked amused by the thought.

"A couple carats of Kryptonite and Clark's just a normal guy," Terry countered, "Even without the bat-gadgets, Wayne could kick my butt and make it look easy."

"Really?" Kara asked.

"Right now it's thirteen-to-ten in his favor," Terry answered.

"Fourteen," Bruce corrected.

"Thirteen," Terry retorted. "The match interrupted by having to go deal with Riddler doesn't count."

Clark coughed firmly, trying to redirect attention back to him and his complaint.

"Because you were losing?" It was almost as though the slightly-older of the two Batmen was actually taunting his younger ally.

"Because we never got to finish it," Terry countered.

"We can do that if you want, McGinnis."

"Okay, Wayne, I'll see you on the mats in ten minutes."

"Five minutes."

"Ten," Terry repeated, not backing down.

Bruce glowered, "Fine, ten minutes. Use the extra time wisely."

Kara looked over at Clark in some confusion, "What's the relationship between them again?"

Author's Note: To answer a question that applies to both 'KnightTime' and 'Not In Their League', While I don't have exact ages or timelines - so much origin conflicts... - since Terry comes from post-BB future, but before JLU: 'Epilogue', he's in his late twenties; Bruce, based on a line in "KnightFall" about 'twenty years since that night', is roughly in his early thirties, putting him only a few years older than Terry. On the other hand, however, Terry actually has more time as Batman than Bruce due to having become Batman at an earlier age, though their experience is different; Bruce is more refined and strategic, scientific in his approach, while Terry leans towards street-smarts and on-the-spot adaptability, which actually balances it out somewhat.
