Teddy sighed and looked away from Remus' gaze, however, he didn't say anything. Instead, Remus watched in amazement as Teddy's turquoise hair faded to a sandy brown, similar to his own. When Teddy met his gaze again, it was with amber eyes, identical to his own. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner," Teddy said quietly.
"Is this…" Remus said trailing off, hoping Teddy would understand what he was asking, since he found himself at a loss for words.
Teddy nodded, "This is what I look like without any morphs."
Remus stared in wonder, struggling to process this information. He had guessed that Teddy was his son, but now, with this confirmation, everything seemed more real, and he was trying not to panic. He had never expected to be a farther, but Teddy had his hair and eyes, but he also had Tonks' heart shaped face and her bright smile. This young man sitting in front of him really was his son, and he wasn't sure how to react. Looking at Teddy's worried face, he knew he had to say something, he just didn't know what. He had accepted the fact long ago that he would never have children, and yet, his son was sitting directly in front of him, looking more and more worried by the second.
"Remus?" Teddy asked nervously.
Remus held up his hand in response, still trying to process the news. He had a son, check. He had a son with... "Tonks, but how?" he asked mostly to himself. The realization hit him like a heard of hippogriff, he had obviously known that Tonks was Teddy's mother, but him being Teddy's mysterious father hadn't fully settled in until then.
Teddy smirked, "You really want me to explain how?" he asked raising his eyebrow, attempting to lighten the mood.
Remus smiled and shook his head, he clearly had Tonks' sense of humor. "I clearly know how, I just don't understand how," he said.
"You fell in love," Teddy replied simply.
Remus was stunned, he wasn't sure what he thought Teddy was going to say, but it certainly wasn't that. He knew that Tonks didn't care about his lycanthropy, however he had never expected anyone to love him, let alone want to have a kid with him. Werewolves didn't exactly make the list for father of the year. He couldn't understand what Tonks had seen in him, and even more so, why he had let himself fall for her. Tonks was a remarkable witch, who continued to amuse and impress him on a daily basis, however, he had never thought of her as being any more than a friend. She was young, brave, and brilliant, she could get any man she wanted, yet she had fallen in love with him? He couldn't wrap his mind around it.
Before Remus had the chance to respond, a light knock sounded on the door, "Is everything okay in here?" Tonks asked with concern as she looked between the two people in the room. Teddy motioned for her to enter, and she quickly took a seat next to him.
Remus ignored her entrance, instead, he quietly asked, "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Teddy looked at the ground and frowned, "I wasn't sure how either of you would react," he said, looking between Remus and Tonks. "I've wanted to meet you my entire life, but when I saw you, I knew I didn't want to tell you. I wanted to get to know you as Tonks and Remus, not mum and dad. If I'm being honest with myself, I probably would've never told you, but Al kind of ruined that. You guys are already acting awkward around each other; could you imagine what it would've been like if I had told you on the first day? I never would have gotten to know the real you!"
Remus sighed, Teddy was right, he hadn't even looked at Tonks since she walked in the room. If Teddy had told them the first day that they were his parents, things would have been painfully awkward.
"Remus," Tonks said firmly, forcing him to meet her eyes. "I know there is nothing between us other than friendship right now, and don't get me wrong, I'm just as weirded out as you are, but we are both rational people, if we chose to have a kid together, clearly something happened to our relationship sometime in the future. Things don't need to be awkward between us."
"Nymphadora," Remus began, hoping to express how conflicted he was, however, he was interrupted by a loud bang that echoed throughout the house. After recovering from the initial surprise, Remus jumped to feet, quickly followed by Tonks and Teddy, and pulled out his wand when he realized that they were no longer alone in the room. Standing in front of them, looking mildly surprised, was a man who looked very familiar, "It worked! Thank merlin it worked!" the man said as he looked around the room.
"Who are you? What worked?" Remus asked, refusing to believe what his brain was telling him. The man standing before them looked just like Harry; he had his unruly hair, his bright green eyes, and the unmistakable lightning scar, however, Remus was finding it hard to believe that a grown-up Harry would be there. Although, if his grown son could be standing next to him, he supposed anything could be possible.
Before the man could answer, Sirius raced into the room, wand drawn, quickly followed by Arthur and Molly. "What happened? We heard a bang," Sirius asked, stopping short when he noticed the man. "What? Who are you? How'd you get in here?" Sirius asked defensively.
Teddy had lowered his wand, looking both relieved and worried at the same time, but before he had the chance to say anything, a delighted shout filled the room. "Dad!" Al shouted racing to the man.
"Albus!" the man replied happily as he pulled Al into a hug, "Merlin is it good to see you. You too Teddy, we've been so worried about both of you," he said looking up at Teddy.
Remus frowned and grabbed Al's arm, pulling him away from the man. "What are you doing? That's my dad!" Al said, obviously confused.
"We have to make sure that's really who we think he is. This house is heavily protected, we were surprised when you two showed up, now a third person magically appears, we need to make sure he's really the person he looks like," Remus explained, getting nods of approval from Sirius, Molly, and Arthur. Remus thought for a minute before asking, "What creature was in my office the first time Harry Potter visited me at Hogwarts?"
The man chuckled, like he was sharing a joke with himself, "A grindylow," he responded. "Remus, it's so, er… nice to see you young again," the man said awkwardly.
Remus raised his eyebrow and turned to Teddy, "Teddy, ask him a question that only future Harry would know," he said.
Teddy rolled his eyes, but asked, "What did you give me before I left for my first year at Hogwarts?"
"The invisibility cloak and the map, then I told you to make your parents proud and to say hi to McGonagall for me," he said laughing at the memory. Teddy nodded to Remus and Sirius, who hesitantly lowered their wands.
"So when you said it worked, I'm assuming you meant time travel?" Remus asked still trying to wrap his mind around the oddness of this situation.
Harry nodded, "I had my doubts, but thank merlin it worked, I'd nearly run out of options."
"How did you get here?" Teddy asked curiously.
"When Ginny realized you two were missing she owled me immediately. Once we figured out that you must have time traveled, we started doing research on how to get you back. Hermione figured out pretty quickly that we would have to be the ones to come and find you. I cashed in some favors with the Department of Mysteries who said they had been working on time travel. They were able to get a time signature from the house, which said you were sent back to 1995. Since time travel is so dangerous, they wanted to get you back just as quickly as we did, so they expedited their research. They gave me a prototype for a new time turner that worked both ways and let me be their first test. Thankfully it worked," Harry finished. "But most importantly, I'd like to know how to managed to send yourself back in time?" he added looking between Al and Teddy.
"I'm sorry dad," Al said, "I was bored so I went exploring in your study. I know you don't like us to go in there without you, but James used to go in all the time. I found the time turner, expect I didn't know it was a time turner, and thought it looked interesting, so I brought it to the kitchen to show Teddy."
"When I saw Al with it, I asked him where he found it since I had never seen it before. When he said he got it from your study I asked to see it, so Al threw it to me, but I didn't catch it entirely and it smashed on the table. Then we were here." Teddy finished.
Harry sighed, "Al, you know you don't have to do everything your brother does right, especially if he's breaking the rules?"
Sirius chuckled, "With a name like James Potter what more would you expect?" he asked seeming unfazed about Harry's arrival.
"We definitely should have seen mischief coming when we decided to make it James Sirius Potter, he's got rule breaking in his blood and in his name," Harry said laughing at Sirius' shocked expression. "How could I not… I shouldn't have said that," he said as realization hit him, "I'm in the past, anything I say could mess up the future."
"It's okay Harry, they know a lot about the future already, we've been here for a while, it was kind of inevitable," Teddy said.
"Dumbledore said that we would all drink a memory potion as soon as we found a way to send them home," Molly explained. "And I'm very happy for you and Ginny dear," she added.
Harry smiled before turning back to Teddy and Al, "Now I don't want you to think that either of you off the hook. Al, I'm very upset that you went looking in my study without me. Ginny and I agreed that we would come up with a punishment when I got you home. Teddy, I can't exactly punish you, but I am very disappointed that this happened under your watch. Everyone was very worried, I'd stay away from Andromeda and Victoire for a while, they were pretty furious," he finished.
Al shrugged, "I don't care what my punishment is, I'm too happy right now. I didn't think I would ever see you or mum again."
"Dumbledore was here yesterday telling us that he couldn't find a way to send us home. We thought that we were going to be stuck here," Teddy elaborated.
"I'm going to owl Dumbledore, he should know that Harry's here now too," Arthur said before leaving the room.
"It's a good thing you ended up in the year you did, a couple years earlier or later and things could have been a lot worse. When we realized that you were sent to the fall of 1995, we both knew that you would be in good hands," Harry said looking around the room.
Remus smiled, "It has been a pleasure getting to know them, you've raised two fine young men. I think I am speaking for both Tonks and myself when I say that I'm glad you are Teddy's godfather."
Sirius turned to Remus looking mildly surprised, "So it's true then, you are his father? Merlin, I don't know what's more strange, finding out my best friend and cousin had a kid together, or seeing my godson the same age as me."
Harry laughed, but before he could respond Tonks spoke up, "This whole day has been strange, now as great as it is to see you Harry, I hope you don't mind if I steal Teddy and Remus away for a moment. We have some, er, family matters to talk about."
Harry nodded, "Of course I don't mind."
As Tonks lead Teddy and Remus out of the room, Sirius turned to Harry, "I was actually hoping to talk to you before you left," he said, looking between Molly and Al before turning back to Harry who nodded.
Taking Sirius' hint, Molly said, "I'll go prepare some lunch for us, come on Al, why don't you help me."
Despite Al's protests of not wanting to leave his dad, Molly had managed to convince him that Harry wasn't going anywhere. The pair left to go to the kitchen, leaving Harry and Sirius alone in the library.
