I am SO SORRY! I didn't abandon this story, it was just on hold because of school and stuff. Plus, I got a riders block.
I bet you forgot about my Frosty story, huh? It sucks that I'm so late since this was written with xmass in mind. though waiting 9 months before posting this would have been SUPER mean.
I never meant to end this story on a sad note. I hope these long delays won't happen again, I actually had most of this chapter written already, but I blocked at the end dialogue, I hope it's not crappy.
Anyway, here's the final chapter, enjoy!
I don't own RotG
Years pass and every winter Jack sees kids building snowmen. Every time he sees one, he considers bringing the snowman to life, but every time he thinks about it, he remembers reasons not to. First, he's worried that it wouldn't be Frosty; that the snowman wouldn't know him. Second, saying goodbye to Frosty was too painful and Jack had never felt more alone than he did the following summer; he doesn't want to go through that again. So every year, Jack Frost remained alone.
About 50 years later, the winter spirit became a guardian and everything changed. Jack Frost finally got what he'd been desperate to have for three centuries; believers. Children could see him and he'd never been happier. He was also able to have real snowball fights for the first time in 50 years.
The summer after Pitch's defeat, after everything changed, Jack decided to hibernate in the North Pole instead of the south, since he was now welcome. He was reminded how great it was to have friends, since he'd only had one in the past.
Then fall came and Jack woke up to start cooling the world down a bit, in preparation for winter. When the time for snow came, the spirit went around the world to do what was most natural to him. This winter feels similar to the others Jack has created over the years, only with one exception; now, wherever he goes, Jack is seen by occasional believers who want to play.
One afternoon, during this wonderful winter, Jack returns to his lake after having made it snow in Asia. To his surprise, Jack sees someone already at his lake. Upon getting closer to the ground, the guardian recognizes his first believer, Jamie, who's there with his little sister Sophie.
Sophie notices Jack first. She points and giggles, making Jamie turn around. As soon as he's facing Jack, the boy receives a snowball to the face. He laughs as he wipes the snow off his face and he exclaims "Jack! I knew you'd come!"
"Hey Jamie" Jack says, then Sophie screams his name and the spirit adds "and Sophie. So, what are you two doing out here?"
"We're building a snowman!" Jamie says, excitedly. He doesn't notice the nostalgic expression on Jack's face as old memories resurface. Jack notices one giant snowball behind Jamie that isn't meant to be thrown; it's the base of the snowman.
"Here? Wouldn't you rather build your snowman in front of your house where you could see it every day?" Jack inquires.
"Well, we're using up most of the snow in our yard for snowballs and our fort! We're at war with the neighbours" Jamie says with a laugh "Besides, if we build our snowman there, it'll end up getting destroyed by bullies, like last year" the boy explains. His sister whines at the memory "Don't worry Soph! There's no way they'll get our snowman this time all the way out here in the woods" Jamie comforts Sophie.
"Bullies, huh? You'll have to show me who these snowman haters are" Jack says, not liking the thought of harming snowmen one bit.
"Well I don't know who it was exactly, but I have a pretty good idea. Anyway, when we got here, we thought of skating, but I'm not so sure about the ice" Jamie says as he continues working on his snowman.
One look at the ice and Jack knows it's not safe for skating "It's a good thing you didn't go, the ice is getting thin. Jamie, I want you to promise me something, it's very important." Jamie turns to Jack, giving him his full attention "Promise me you won't ever go skating on that lake before I say it's safe."
After Jamie promises, Jack goes to the lake to give it a few more coats of ice in case someone wants to skate. When he returns to the kids, the second giant snowball is on top of the bigger one. He hears the kids are singing a song. Jack listens and is surprised to hear a song he's never heard before, because frankly, Jack never played very close attention to Christmas songs.
Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul, Frosty the Snowman, is a fairy tale, they say. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around!
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made of coal.
He was made of snow, but the children know he came to life one day.
Jack couldn't believe his ears. There was a song about Frosty! After all these years, people still know who he is, of course, they still give the hat credit for him coming to life, but Frosty is remembered by all! Jack is even more shocked when he hears the last part of the song.
For Frosty, the Snowman, had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye, sayin' "Don't you cry, I'll be back again some day."
Those were Frosty's parting words to him. How did this end up in the song? Jack wonders Whoever wrote this song couldn't have known that those were Frosty's last words. Normally, people would simply call this a coincidence, but Jack doesn't believe in coincidences. There's only one explanation; the spirit of Frosty lives on, contained in a song.
Jack sees the moon shining a bit too bright for the day time, actually, it shouldn't even be there at this time, so the spirit knows it's trying to communicate. Jack returns to the lake where he sees that the moon is shining a specific spot on the lake. Jack looks down and sees what he never thought he'd see again. There, underneath the ice, is Frosty's hat. Who knew that all this time, Frosty's old hat was in Jack's lake! The spirit sees this as a message from the moon that if he were to bring the snowman to life, it would be the same Frosty. The Snowman's spirit lingers on and he's not dead. As for the other reason Jack refrained himself from bring Frosty back all these years, he knows that he no longer needs to concern himself with loneliness. That enemy was defeated when he became a guardian.
As if the moon insists, the ice touching the moon's bright light melts. Jack tries to reach into the water to retrieve the top hat, but the lake ices over at his touch. "Oh come on! Seriously? Are you mocking me!?" Jack exclaims to the moon. The ice melts again, but this time the hat floats to the top of the water and Jack can grab it.
The winter spirit flies back to Jamie and Sophie. The snowman is done, he even has a dark blue scarf and Jack laughs, noticing it's an actual scarf this time. The snowman looks a lot like Frosty, except for the bare head.
"Nice snowman, but aren't you missing something?" Jack says.
"We couldn't find a good hat" Jamie answers, disappointedly.
Sophie notices the top hat Jack has in his hands and, before he can give it to them, she grabs the hat and looks inside. "Bunny?" She asks, thinking it looks a lot like the kind of hat a magician would pull a rabbit out of.Jack and Jamie chuckle because of how adorable the little girl can be. "I don't think it's a magic hat, Soph" Jamie says.
"How do you know it's not magic?" Jack teases, hinting to Jamie that Frosty might come to life if he puts the hat on the snowman.
It takes a few seconds, but Jamie thinks he understands what Jack is implying. Being a strong believer and a very curious boy, Jamie takes the hat from his sister and hurriedly puts it on the snowman's head.
For nostalgic reasons, Jack times his snowflake to reach Frosty at the same time as the hat.
Just like fifty years earlier, Frosty wakes up with a jolt, only this time, the children stare in amazement instead of running and hiding. Jack just hopes Frosty will remember him. Despite the song and the sign from the moon, he's still worried.
"WOW! What a nap! Did I oversleep?" Frosty asks himself.
Sophie's jaw is dropped in amazement, whereas Jamie is quick to recover. "The hat IS magic!" The boy exclaims.
Frosty turns his attention from his surroundings to Jamie "Actually-" he starts, but is cut off by the child.
"Wait a minute... The hat isn't magic at all, is it?" Jamie looks at Jack "it was you!"
Jack grins, finally getting credit without having to beg for it. Before he can say anything, Frosty exclaims "JACK!" Just now noticing his presence. "It's so good to see you friend" he says.
"Oh you have no idea Frosty!" Jack sighs in relief. Frosty is still the same snowman and he remembers him.
"And this child can see you! How did this happen?" Frosty inquired.
"It's kind of a long story, I'll tell you all about it later"
"I feel different, what am I wearing? What is this?" The snowman asks, lifting the blue cloth around his neck.
"That's an actual scarf" Jack laughs "I kind of got attached to your old 'scarf' so I'll hang on to it, if you don't mind"
"That shirt does suit you well, it's a perfect fit too! How about that?" They both laugh. Frosty looks to Sophie and notices something "speaking of clothes, what these children are wearing is very different from last time. And I've never seen these two before. I find it hard to believe that fashion would change so much in a year"
"Geez Frosty, when did you become so observant" Jack asks, slyly trying to avoid the upcoming question.
"How long has it been?" Frosty asks. Jack remains silent "Jack?"
The spirit sighs and says "fifty years"
"What!? Why did you wait so long!?"
"Well, I was worried that you wouldn't be you anymore or that you wouldn't remember me. Also, it was way too hard to say goodbye. But now that I have believers, I figured that it was time to bring you back"
"Well, I'm glad to be back" Frosty smiles warmly.
"It's good to have you back" Jack returns the smile, but is then hit in the head with a snowball.
"Hey! You haven't forgotten about me, have you?" Jamie yells from behind a tree where he's already made a dozen snowballs while Jack was distracted.
"Come on Jack, let's have some fun!" Frosty exclaims, making a snowball.
And so, the spirit of winter, the snowman, the last light and... Just Sophie have an epic snowball fight that marks the beginning of a great winter.
THE END!
(isn't that happier than last chapter? ;) )
