First of all i love Jane/ Frank.

Why does everyone not like him? I mean he is no Mr Willoughby.

Sure he flirted with Emma and used her as a cover for his true feelings for Jane but Emma also "played" him. She didn't exactly love him.

Many people see him as a "J***" and that he does not deserve Jane's love.(you can guess that i don't think so)

Sorry, I think he's a bit of a j*** and not good enough for Jane as well. But I do think people dislike him a little more than he deserves, taking an almost "Mr. Knightley" view of him. But we've got to remember that Mr. Knightley was prejudiced against him and that although he's normally a good judge of character, his judgement was skewed by his love for Emma and the resultant jealousy Frank provoked. I tend to feel that Frank is not even really an Austen villain at all, although he fulfills the criteria of hiding a secret, flirting with the heroine and making the hero jealous - he's not really BAD as such - just more of a thoughtless boy. Very immature, and rather selfish, but - in Jane's good hands - hopefully redeemable.

Emma didn't "play" him, IMO - he flirted, she responded, just as flippantly and lightly as she knew it was intended. She never initiated it or deliberately deceived him as to her feelings - when she realised she didn't really love him, she immediately acted a little more distant so that he would be on his guard.

I think Frank Churchill is a good guy, but he is thoughtless and rather thick. Jane will straighten him out.

I actually like Frank better than Jane. Jane is very nice, but she is rather a wimp.

Side note: Both he and his father married governesses. Never thought of that before.
