The Thirteen Commandments of Fanfiction

1. Thou shalt not write Mary-Sue or Gary-Stu stories. EVER.
2. Thou shalt not write self-inserts. Please see Commandment #1.
3. Thou shalt learn how to use spell check.
4. Thou shalt learn how to use proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
5. Thou shalt not write stories without the disclaimer, lest ye get sued.
6. Thou shalt not write stories using other FFNet authors' characters without their permission.
7. Thou shalt not write songfics, unless thou art Meat Loaf or Peter Frampton.
8. Thou shalt not write in chatspeak, even if thou hath written the fic from your cell-phone.
9. Thou shalt not write one word or one sentence chapters.
10. Thou shalt not write authors notes that are more than 1/3 the length of the chapter.
11. Thou shalt not write AU unless you label it as AU. (Alternate Universe, for those who are not in the know. Yeah, YOU.)
12. Thou shalt not change a character's personality from how its Glorious Creator intended it.
13. Thou shalt read the book/play the game, before writing about it. ALL of it. And watching the movie/cutscenes doesn't count.

Rationale:

I prefer to write about games or anime that had been "left out" so to speak. I prefer to write about games wherein the particular pairing hadn't been fully explored. I prefer somewhat of an obscure game or anime. It's because the more popular ones had been overdone and I hate redundancy.

I want to make unnoticed games more noticed. LOL! So there.

Flames and Criticism:

Flames:

The flames that I will come across will be tossed out of the window. This is not due to my being defensive, rather, I believe that flames only have one intention: to emotionally ruin a writer. Flames are never helpful; they are nothing but senseless, irrational and baseless accusations that readers toss to writers and most of them are without evidence. I will not tolerate flamers. I will provide a curt synopsis for each story that I will post; the reader will have the choice of either reading it or shunning it. If the reader finds my work offensive in some way, then, he or she is free not to read it.

Criticism:

Criticism or rather, constructive criticism will be evaluated thoroughly and carefully considered. Readers' opinions are paramount to a writer's performance. These are the type of criticisms that I seek. But, constructive criticism must be with evidence, otherwise, I fail to see their truthfulness. I truly appreciate an honest and unbiased evaluation of my work. If anything is amiss, please let me know. But, as our families have taught us, there are always two ways to express oneself; either by being mindful of others' feelings or being an inconsiderate, ill-mannered and shameless brute.

But, all that aside, I wish all my readers to enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
