I’m back. Decided to update my profile while I’m at it because I want my beloved readers to know I’m still around and I still love writing. I’m not promising a sudden regularity of updates or even lengthy ones (Life gets in the way, what can you do?) but hopefully I won’t disappear again for a long, long time. About Me:
Hello everyone. I go by Kiiam around these parts. The name doesn’t mean anything, it’s just something that came out of a fit of frustration and a spelling error. I decided to roll with it. Anyway, I’ve graduated high school not too long ago and I’m attending college. So yeah… that’s a thing. Very busy because of it. I’m a male of average height with brown hair that does what it wants with brown eyes to match. I’m laidback and friendly, or so I’d like to think, and live on the coast of the USA. Guess which one? Hm… That’s pretty much it. Anyone bored yet?

I’m a writer with a lot of creativity and a desire to share my characters and ideas with the world. Anything else that comes from it is just a bonus, though I appreciate the recognition I’ve gotten over the years. I write what I want but I always appreciate constructive criticism when given. My tastes in stories vary. I suppose saying I like fics that are well-written would be too general, huh?

Other Stuff:
Just things that interest me. Most of the anime/manga/games I like will probably be what I post fics about. Also, I absolutely hate yaoi and yuri so don’t expect any of it from me.

Favorite Manga/Anime: Naruto, Bleach (Big fan), Code Geass (Never gets old), Fate/Zero (Amazing), Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Fairy Tail (Favorite Manga), Katanagatari (Favorite Anime), Gundam Seed, Avatar: The Last Airbender (I know it’s a cartoon, but I’ll include it here anyway. Love Korra too.), Dragonball Z, Rave Master, The World Only God Knows, Evangelion, etc.

Favorite Games: Fire Emblem (Favorite), Persona Series (Persona 3 & 4 to be exact. Second favorite series), Pokemon, Tales of Series (Xillia is coming!), Harvest Moon, LOZ, Final Fantasy, Phoenix Wright, etc.

Favorite Pairings: A lot. I like romance between characters so you’ll probably find out what I like in my stories. I think giving a list would count as a spoiler.

Personal Thoughts on Stories/Word to the Public:
Criticism and Haters: I was watching the revived Toonami block a while back (Watching TOM host was my childhood and some of my favorite anime was hosted on the block. Support the revival!) and our favorite host gave a speech that I couldn’t help posting.

“Well, I guess it’s time to hate on haters. We’ve all got one. It’s the person that always says ‘that sucks’, no matter what you’re doing. Now, this isn’t the same as criticism. Criticism serves a healthy function. Sometimes it can even help you get better. That’s because it comes from a good place. Hating, however, is just when someone wants to cut you down. Wanna watch you fall. (Ohji: It’s really quite sad.) Toonami’s had a lot of criticism and a lot of haters in our time. We welcome the criticism because this is a work in progress, and we wanna hear what you guys think. Because we love you. But, when it comes to haters? Ol’ TOM learned his lesson a while ago. You can’t let ‘em get to you. So keep your head up. Keep doing what works for you. And don’t be afraid to listen to your critics. But always, always ignore the haters. We all deserve better.”

This is a shockingly accurate take on my own feelings about criticism and haters. This site is wonderful because it allows us all to showcase our writing skills and receive feedback for it. This place is an outlet for our creativity, allowing us to test the waters and help gain experience in writing and hopefully, with time, help give birth to something amazing and original on our own. There are so many talented people who write and post here. Some may have been born with the knack for it, while most others had to work hard to gain their skill and improve as they went along. But even for the talented, nobody starts out on top. It takes a lot of passion and heart to be a good writer, and you’ll get lots of haters as you go along. These people will try their hardest to make you think you’re no good, that your ideas are worthless, that you have no chance at ever writing anything worth reading, but don’t be discouraged! Your ideas may not be perfect, and let’s face it, it’s impossible to create a story without flaws, but no idea is worthless. The hate you receive is worthless. It’s different from criticism, which can be hard to hear and a little hurtful at times, but it will only help you improve. Good criticism lets you know about your flaws, gives you ideas on how to make your stories more interesting and less dull, and helps pick at the other things that you might have missed or overlooked. It is very important to make the distinction between hate and criticism.

I love my readers and I appreciate anyone who’s even taken the time to glance at one of my stories, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in all the years I’ve been writing it’s that you can’t please everyone. But if you have an idea you want to share and the passion to write it, don’t let anyone stop you. Everyone has their own style and does things their own way. Just don’t be afraid to take criticism when it can help you, and it will. But haters? Ignore them. You’ll always have to deal with them no matter what you do, and when you’re faced with one, just smile and remember that you might not be the best but you’ll only improve and get better so long as you don’t give up and keep writing, not because you want to be noticed or get recognition. That’ll come as you improve. We write because we love writing and we want to share our ideas with others, even if it’s just one or two people. Even that makes the effort worth it.

Criticism is valuable and is a great help to not just writers, but anyone who has an idea they want to share. Haters are just people you’ve just gotta learn to put up with and ignore. But no matter what, just like TOM said, always remember one thing:

We ALL deserve better. We ALL have the right to share our creativity with those around us. To everyone out there who has ever doubted themselves or is on the fence about sharing their stories, don’t be afraid and keep shining on. There are people who look forward to your stories and would love the opportunity to help you improve. Never lose the passion.

Characters: Each character in any story is there for a reason and I think it’s important to treat them well. I’ll admit some characters are fun to bash every once in a while and sometimes a certain character or two is written with the intent for readers to hate them, but that doesn’t mean they should be changed into a completely different characters. That’s what Parody/Crackfics are for. And they are hilarious. Also, keep a character’s power level reasonable. Making certain characters too weak or too strong without proper explanation is something people should avoid. We don’t need enemies and allies screaming about how the main character’s power is suddenly “OVER 9000!!!” throughout the fic.

Summaries:
The hook of a story. The first thing readers see before they decide to read a story. Don’t waste it by adding unnecessary details or putting “My summary sux” in it. Just give a brief synopsis that will catch people’s attention. Add anything else in the author’s note at the beginning or end of your chapters.
