![]() Author has written 9 stories for Rurouni Kenshin, and Naruto. Introductions... Well, I'm an Engineering student who's too lazy with his studies and too involved in anime/manga for his own good. I got into anime and manga a few years ago. Sadly I in my last year of high school by then and didn't have all that much spare time to put into it. Series I'm following right now: Naruto Hayate the Combat Butler Fullmetal Alchemist Air Gear(manga) Nagasarete Airantou(manga) Umisho(manga) Kaichou Wa Maid Sama Yakitate Japan(manga) Rosario + Vampire II(manga) The Law of Ueki Plus(manga) Stuff I've read/watched in the past: Love Hina Rurouni Kenshin Cowboy Bebop Dragonball/ DBZ Peacemaker Kurogane(anime) Fullmetal Alchemist(anime) Yakitate Japan(anime) Black Cat(anime) The Law of Ueki(anime) Saiyuki/Saiyuki Reload/Saiyuki Gaiden Trinity Blood Samurai Champloo Girls Bravo Ghost in the Shell Rosario + Vampire(manga) And a few more that I can't recall right now. Anyhow, I've been reading fics on since 2002 or so. It never occurred to me to write any of my own because I'm bad at fleshing out my ideas into proper stories. Recently I read the Rurouni Kenshin manga, re-watched the anime and watched the Tsuiokuhen/Trust and Betrayal OAV and became a fan of the Kenshin/Tomoe pairing. Appalled by absolute lack of K/T fanfics(that aren't abandoned or incomplete) I came to the sad realisation that the only way to realise my dream of reading more good Kenshin/Tomoe fanfics would be to write a few myself. And that's the reason I registered here. Types of fics that I like: Stuff that has plenty of action, a well-developed writing style and good characterisation. Also appreciate well-written humour and fanservice. Fics I don't like: Anything that's (too) poorly written(and I don't mean the writing style alone). Also the kind of fics that are written mostly to satisfy the writer's personal dislike against a particular character. As an example I'll refer to the countless AU Kenshin/Kaoru fics that engineer scenarios for Kenshin to dump Tomoe and pick Kaoru over her, occasionally accompanied by Tomoe acting OOC like a total bitch and trying to justify it all with 'some things are meant to be'. So Kenshin was meant to be with only Kaoru and not Tomoe? Give me a break; both romances are canon. Tomoe is in the past, so she doesn't get in Kaoru's way. Why do you Kaoru fanboys need this pathetic excuse to reassure yourself of her superiority? The last straw was seeing the many Bakumatsu fics with Kaoru replacing Tomoe; she grew up in a time of peace, there's no freakin way she'd have suited Kenshin in those bloody times and still been the same Kaoru we know from the series. Fics I'll be writing(or trying to write): I usually have three types of motivations for writing a fic, and as such all my fics will fall into these two general categories: One is stories that 'fill in the gap' in terms of exploring/expanding on character thoughts and backgrounds and are intended to seamlessly blend in with the canon; the second is 'what happened to xxx' stories that are also meant to be an extension of the canon, the third is 'what if' AU fics that may diverge significantly from the canon storyline. In general, I only write a fic if I feel that such a fic is needed to express my views/ideas on how certain things were/are in the series or could have been. For instance, I'm not going to focus much on the Kenshin/Kaoru pairing in Rurouni Kenshin because I find there is no need to; over 98 percent of the fics here already have that pairing and many of them explore it in far more detail than I ever could. I'll be writing mainly for Rurouni Kenshin. I won't be including any heavy supernatural elements or setting any stories in the modern era; I don't think either of those is suited to the series. Being set in the historical Bakumatsu/Meiji era Japan has a special charm that I don't want to lose. As for romantic pairings, most of the fics that have any romance will be Kenshin/Tomoe or hybrid Kenshin/Tomoe/Kaoru, though I also have a couple of Kenshin/Kaoru stories in mind. All in all, I've got ideas and plot sketches for over a dozen fics, both oneshots and full length stories, but like I've said above, I'm rather poor at fleshing out my ideas and putting them on paper. I also have little knowledge of the Japanese history, language and mannerisms. Lastly I'm rather lazy in my free time(which, thanks to college and tuitions, isn't much). So it'll probably be years before I've written everything I want to write. EDIT 1: Due to scarcity of time I'm putting my planned Kenshin/Tomoe fics on hold till the next summer break. It pains me to make this decision, but since romance is something I'm awkward at writing It'd be better to do it when I have plenty of time to write and tweak my ideas. For now I'll just focus on finishing my Kenshin/Hiko fic and possibly a couple of short stories on other subjects. EDIT 2: I'm really, really sorry for the apparent inaction on my account, but I've come to a somewhat busy stage in my studies right now. I'm still working on new chapters and fics, though. |
