And it was very, VERY, VEEEEERY close!

There were so many phenomenal stories … making this list was quite torturous! Some of these stories were only a fraction of a percent above their competitor. Okay, okay. Enough whining. But we just wanted to let y'all know that because the scores were so close on some of the stories, we had to include 12 in the final list instead of 10.

Yep, a new writing contest with a twist. We’re looking for your best parodies set in the SVM/TB universe that is Eric-centric, preferably with E/S as lead characters. Your parody can be culled from books, TV, films or even cartoons. Lemons are optional but droolingly encouraged. We’re giving a generous 15,000 word limit, too.

Due to popular demand, we've decided that entries to the contest will be posted as their own stories under the Dead Pan contest profile. Please sign up for an author alert if you haven't already done so!

Entries can be submitted to us beginning April 1st, but no later than 11:59 CST on May 15th.

This contest is going to be anonymous, so please DO NOT PUBLISH THIS STORY ON YOUR PROFILE!

Teaser: a passage from the story of up to 500 words of your choice

Your entry will be validated for grammar/punctuation and for compliance with contest rules when we receive it. Once it is approved, all identifying information will be stripped and your entry will be posted as a story under the contest profile.

We will send you an email to let you know when your entry is approved. If your entry is disqualified for any reason, you can edit and resubmit it, as long as we receive it by the submission deadline.

When your entry is published, we will also post a pimpalicious announcement, along with a teaser, on the contest’s forum thread. So, don’t forget to choose a passage of up to 500 words for us to post!

Telling your readers which entry is yours will result in the expulsion of your entry from the contest. However, pimping of the contest (and mentioning that you have written something for it—just not what) is allowed and enthusiastically encouraged. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping this contest truly anonymous!

Voting:

Public voting for the finalists will be announced at the end of the contest. You will have two weeks to vote for your favorites before we announce the winner.

The Rules:

The contest will run from April 1st to May 15th.

Each entry must be able to stand on its own as a one-shot and must be a new story but may be continued into a multi-chapter fic after the contest ends.

All entries must be a Minimum of 2,500 words. Max 15,000.

All those who want to continue their stories may do so once the contest has ended.

All entrants must be at least 18 years of age. Entries must be rated T or M based on the guidelines set forth by fanfiction.net.

Entries can be canon, AU, AH, (alternate universe, all human) and can be any genre (romance/humor/angst/etc - please just no rape or incest).

Collaborations are allowed and encouraged.

Unlimited entries accepted by any single author. The idea here is to get lots of interesting stories submitted and not limit your creativity. It’s a win-win for everyone. Entries can be from any character’s POV but each entry must feature our favorite loveable Eric Northman. While we encourage creative interpretations, as well as AH and AU, Eric must be cast as the hero. (That is, the boy who wins the girl's heart -- Rhett, Rick, Westley.)

All entries must be beta'd. No exceptions! Judges cannot serve as betas for any of the contest entries. Your stories will be subjected to judging that will include rating for grammar and punctuation. So please use a beta, please spellcheck!

You will also be rated on writing style, diction, dialog, story structure and creativity. Each category is assigned a numeric value which all total 100 points.

No incest, rape, cutting, etc. Entries that are deemed inappropriate will not be accepted. If you think something in your story may require a warning for some readers, put it in your Author’s Note at the beginning.

Any story that doesn't adhere to the rules above will result in the expulsion of said story from the contest.
