Author has written 14 stories for Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, and Hunter X Hunter. 6/21/2013 - So, I'm still alive and active in fandom, but the main reason for this update is to talk about "Beacons in the Night." For a while now I've regretted a few decisions I made with that story, mainly changing Kurapika's pronouns and insisting on having him identify as a female character. I don't feel this was the right choice to make since he identifies as male in canon. If I wrote the story over, I'd write him as a female-to-male trans person. That being said, I'm leaving the story the way it is - while I might regret my decision, I don't think it's offensive (feel free to correct me if that's not the case!). Also, I'm lazy and I don't want to re-read and edit something I finished that long ago. What I will do is add a proper warning for female!Kurapika, since I've seen quite a few people say they don't want to read that trope and it's unfair of me to spring that on them, no matter how soon it comes up in the story. The reasoning I had for not including a warning before was that, even though he was female, Kurapika's personality would stay the same and it would be like reading about male Kurapika. I do believe I stayed true to his characterization, but as I said, it's not fair to spring this trope on people who don't want to read it. |
