My Rules When Writing a Story: Rule 1: Always Know How Your Entire Story Will Play Out, Before You Write It. This will help keep you up with deadlines you promise to your readers and prevent writers block a lot of the time. Rule 2: Be Original. Always be original. This site does say unleash your imagination. And I know the story I am writing uses an idea that has been used hundreds of times, but my story is unique. Thats another thing. If you use an idea thats been used a lot, then make it unique. Don't make it the same as the others. Lets say one story was about Percy and Annabeth getting married. Now this idea is insanely overused on this site. And if you're one of the people that has used this idea or something then don't make it the same has somebody elses. If someones story has a cliche wedding, then make yours action packed or something. Be unique. Rule 3: Get your readers involved. People always enjoy a good, well written story, but with every story, there's always something that you would have changed, or wouldn't have had it happened. No one can deny it. I know in a couple stories I've read I would've had something play out different. Infact, it's not just stories. Okay, how many times when you were watching Pokemon, did you wish Ash won the battle he just lost. Every Pokemon League, when Ash lost by just a fraction, I would be so mad. I would've made like Pikachu dodge the attack that made him lose or something. Anyways, have polls on your page or in your stories give the readers a chance to give their opinion on what they want to happen. Now you can't please everyone, so to solve that maybe direct the people who wanted it different to another story similar to the story you wrote except with the ending they want. Or if you have the time, write an alternate ending to please the readers who wanted a different ending. Rule 4: Finish the Chapter a Couple Days Before Posting. This will give you a lot of time to look over your story and edit it. People don't like a rushed story so don't leave it to the last minute. If you have lots of time to look at it, you can make sure you don't screw up at some parts and make your story perfect. Rule 5: Enjoy Writing. If you don't feel like writing one day, then don't. Wait for a day where you feel energized enough to write. Somedays you get a head of schedule if you're feeling energized. And somedays when you don't feel like writing, then you fall behind schedule. That's what makes good author, write bad stories. Don't worry about following behind schedule, because when someone truly likes something, then they are willing to wait for it. There is a quote that states: "Good things come, to those who wait". Follow that, and you'll be successful. And most importantly, have fun. If you don't like writing, then don't write. Don't force yourself to do things you don't want to. Those are the rules I follow to be successful, and if you think you're struggling as an author, then follow these rules to be successful. Current Stories: The Commander of Chaos- In Progress (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Fanfic) Stories I plan on Starting: Sinnoh: Rewritten- Ash and (Someone I decide) Fic (Pokemon Fanfic) Summary: What if when Ash went to Sinnoh, he actually kept his skills?
