Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter. Hi, Welcome to my humble profile page. Hi I'm Barry Scott, is stolen from Cillit Bang adverts in the United Kingdom, I'm not actually called Barry Scott, it was just the first name I could come up with. Originally i had no intention of actually writing Fanfiction, until one day i came across Delenda est which inspired me to do my own Harry goes back in time story, 'Harry Dursley' is that story. Things I like in Fan fiction (and stories in general) a surprise, I don't want to know what the bad guys are planning before it happens, so i often prefer stories where the villains perspective is kept to a minimum or never done at all. Humour, whether its through clever funny conversations, or slapstick action. If it makes me smile that's fine. Non straight forward plots. I like being able to guess what will happen, but i don't like knowing for certain how the story will go from the first chapter. There's plenty of other things i enjoy but i guess those are my main 'turn ons' What i don't like. Bashing. Unless you are completely unique in your bashing there is a good chance everyone has seen it before, Reading the 600th story where Ron is completely hopeless at everything gets old. Or where Dumbledore is a mastermind villain yet 11 year old Harry schools him in every encounter, not fun at all. Super over powered Harry, In general when Harry is the most powerful wizard ever to exist two chapters into a story for no other reason than he went and got an inheritance test done by the goblins. I get bored. Fast. That's not to say all powerful Harry stories annoy me, if its done as a joke or the villains are comparably powerful or cunning. I'm sure you can think of more than a few stories where Harry just bats aside any and all problems without a second thought. The perfect Hermionie, I get it, a lot of fan fiction readers probably enjoy books and therefore see themselves in Hermionie, the book worm. I don't dislike the character but she is far from the perfect flawless person certain fanfcition authors describe. So when I see a story where she never does anything wrong i get a steadily more annoyed. She is far from a perfect human in canon, very clever yes, but lacks social skills. I'm not set in stone about my dislikes, I've read good stories with plenty of bashing, or an overpowered Harry or even can do no wrong Hermionie. But they are the sorts of traits which may stop me reading an otherwise good fan fic. |
