I was born and raised on a cattle ranch and was six years old when Laramie first hit the screen in 1959, but it was in 1961 when I really began to look forward to seeing it every week. It was during Season 2, Episode 19, Cactus Lady in February, 1961 that we first saw Stuart Randall as Sheriff Mort Cory. Of course, we didn't know that was his name until Badge of the Outsider, Season 2, Episode 30, when Slim called him 'Mort'. He was credited only as Stuart Randall, 'Sheriff' or 'Laramie Sheriff' until Season 3's, Episode 11, The Killer Legend. And the rest, as they say, is history. Stuart went on to guest star in 34 episodes of Laramie as our lovable Sheriff Mort Cory and won the hearts of many Laramie fans.

I'm a great reader of Laramie fan fiction, but it was only in passing or leading up to the story line that Mort was ever mentioned by other writers, with the exception of a very few. Being a Mort Cory fan and because very few people wrote about him, I decided to try my hand at writing a story. It took a long time to finish and even longer to work up the courage to publish, because I didn't think anyone would read it, and if they did they probably wouldn't like it. But thanks to the encouragement of Jantallian, a wonderful Laramie fan fiction writer, I finally published The Long Trail.

I have since written other stories, all with Mort as the lead character and as time permits and if the good Lord is willing, I will write more.

I have written my stories to reflect life after the Laramie television show ended, and the fact that Mort's personal life was never really addressed in the series, I feel that I can safely give him a life of his own.
