I personally expect that a writer will take the time to read their own story before coming to me, and use me as a second opinion. I don't expect perfection in a first draft, but I expect writers to do their best to spell and grammar check, and try to refine their own story. As a beta-reader, I tend to read the story twice. The first time, I go through the story and focus on the progression of the plot, generally skimming over descriptions, and things like that. The second time, I focus on every word, and read through much more carefully.

I'm good at spotting plot holes in stories, as well as identifying dialogue that appears extremely clumsy, generic, or out of place. I'm good at providing constructive criticism, and I am able to provide ideas that I believe would improve the story.

I occasionally have some trouble with motivation, so I may take a bit longer than would be preferred to read a story. As previously mentioned, the first time I read through a story, I tend to skim over descriptions, so I may miss some details. I am attempting to fix this.

I would prefer not to take romance stories, but there are some I like. They will be considered on an individual basis. I also dislike tragedies, just as a personal preference, but I may be willing to take them. My personal favorites are adventures, humor, and short stories focusing on thoughts of characters.

Lemons, or anything with more than implied sexual content. Any romance where the two parties are of different species (e.g., Pokemon X Human). High school, college, or middle school AU's. I personally dislike these stories, and I would be unable to provide any kind of constructive criticism.
