Reviews for A Lovely Night Together
Clare chapter 1 . 5/14
Lovely fic! Especially love Georg making a hash of making hot chocolate, after bragging about being able to make the same type he had in Paris. Made me laugh :) but it didn't impress Maria much as the Shania Twain song goes. Lols
bloomandgrow chapter 1 . 5/28/2018
What a beautiful post-gazebo scene. Georg messing about in the kitchen trying to impress Maria was so adorable.
I loved the part about the photo of Agathe, and how Maria does not feel threatened by his love for Agathe, but rather wants him to embrace it. That is very much in keeping with her warm generosity.

How funny that Maria was so busted over eavesdropping on Georg and Max. It reminds me of when Georg's first sighting of her was her goofing off in his ballroom. lol.

What a sweet romantic ending, with Maria falling asleep in his arms as he reflects on how much she means to him. Lovely.
ThePoorDidntWantThisOne chapter 1 . 1/23/2016
This was just a little gem of a post gazebo story!

Can I just admit that I am an absolute sucker for any and all gazebo related stories...which probably explains why I am here receiving this story! I thought it was wonderful! A little romance, a little angst, a little funny and it all came together so well!

G trying to make a decent cup of hot chocolate, hilarious. I knew it wasn't going to go well when he could find anything in the kitchen...but at least he tried :)

And a "spoonful of sugar"... Clever clever!

Really liked the parallels you drew between who Georg let into his study and who he didn't. Opening the doors to his private rooms and also into his life and heart. Great imagery, and I nice way to communicate what's happening to your readers without hitting them over the head with exposition.

Max! Always enjoyable, but especially when he gets to be the voice of reason and not just the comic relief.

Loved M falling asleep on him, awe! Very sweet!
Consti Grandchester chapter 1 . 4/6/2015
I love it! a really cute story!
UnfollowTheSun chapter 1 . 3/19/2015
At last I'm getting around to reviewing everyone's FF. This is spot on character wise. Georg's disastrous attempt at making cocoa is amusing. Maria and Georg laughing about Kurt's sweet tooth is a nice touch. The whole Agathe conversation is sweet and Georg being caught having a photograph in his study of Maria with the children is intriguing, makes the reader wonder how much time he's spent brooding over it. The conversation with Max is well done too, the way Georg cheekily jokes in a laddish way, about wanting to 'whisk Maria off for a very long and very private honeymoon' and then Max turns serious to talk about the possibility of gossip - their relationship seems brotherly. This story has so many layers considering it's only short. Expertly written :)
faithandhopewoman chapter 1 . 2/16/2015
I had to read your story twice before writing my comments. You packed a lot into this short story. I loved the scene in the kitchen and also when they spoke about the pictures of the children and the one of Agathe.
Perhaps there was a tad bit more passion expressed than I would expect in a K story.
The interaction with Max was different. I know the movie tells us very little about him; who did Max know first, Elsa or Georg. That makes fan fiction writers free to develop his personality. I always felt that after Elsa told him about putting the children in boarding schools he might be more apt to think about the children. After all, they could make him famous.
With that being said, I did enjoy it.
dobegirl15 chapter 1 . 1/16/2015
I really enjoyed this! It was a great story idea! I would also like to see a continuation of this, like when they told the children about the engagement. However, like I've stated before in a different review, I don't agree with the intensity of Georg's lust. I don't feel that he would have acted that way. Nor do I feel that he would have sworn. He never did in the movie, and the real Maria said he never did either. Just a very picky comment. Please forgive me- I completely love the movie and the real story.
BrittanyLS chapter 1 . 1/22/2014
Beautifully romantic!
SevMione23 chapter 1 . 1/16/2014
WONDERFUL!

Thank you!
Guest chapter 1 . 1/15/2014
Lovely story! Hope you will write more soon.
Mypie chapter 1 . 1/13/2014
Oh this started as a lovely night and ended perfect!
I love the playfulness between them. I'm sure it will continue through their relationship.
Hahahaha, George in the kitchen! I began to wonder if his cocoa would contain alcohol, it seems it needed to ;)
I hope you'll continue this story although the title gives away it was only one lovely night...
Would love to read the children's reactions. How M&G cope with the wedding plans, do they find time to be alone with all the chaperones/children.
Loved this piece.
Greetings Mireille
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 1 . 1/13/2014
This was beautiful. There's no such thing as too much M&G fluffiness. I loved the way in the kitchen scene you mixed up a whole bunch of quotes from the film. The idea that the children all had their own special order for cocoa was so cute, and of course, the spoonful of sugar thing was genius. Do I also detect a Victor/Victoria reference?

The bit in the study was so sweet, with all the pictures; how there was the one of her and all of the children, as well as how she insisted that the picture of him and Agathe be left up. And the way she fell asleep in his arms and he carried her to bed was adorable.
augiesannie chapter 1 . 1/13/2014
I loved this! I thought it was a perfect post-Gazebo story, not too fluffy, not too angsty. I loved the whole bit with Agathe's picture - both his reaction and Maria's. I loved G's mishaps in the kitchen. I'm always delighted with cleverly repurposed dialogue like "why do you stare at me that way" and "having a marvelous time." I also like the idea of their having to plan a lavish wedding for two months' out to avoid scandal - just a taste of the new world Maria's going to have to get used to. I agree with the review that said that the discussion of her "eavesdropping" was a good way to introduce her to her new role in his life. Anyway, great job. You are a really natural and gifted writer and I look forward to reading more of your stuff!
Mie779 chapter 1 . 1/13/2014
Oh this was a very sweet "after the Gazebo" scene... loved it very much...
lemacd chapter 1 . 1/12/2014
this is incredibly sweet and touching. the things i really liked were:
- the banter in the kitchen, specifically "and having a marvelous time."
- "just a spoonful of sugar." haha i see what you did there.
- the photographs, especially Agathe's and how Maria insists he keep it displayed.
- Maria falling asleep "in his arms".

at first i thought his reaction about her eavesdropping was a bit much, but as i realized it was just the beginning of them working out the new relationship it made sense. as though georg was trying to make her see that she isn't the governess anymore. i also thought Max's warnings and suggestions made such great sense. i always think that Max is such a useful character. great job.
