In the beginning, I felt pretty. much the same Ed did. Until Roy and Riza's conversation, and then I felt everything crash down around me. Roy's trying to protect Ed, and I'm a sucker for Parental!RoyEd. Thank you for brightening my night.

Damn, this definitely deserved a second shot to see whether would Ed call the colonel an idiot and thank him at the train station or at the man's grave.

I really like this story, even though it's kinda depressing (even though that's why it's so good in the first place). I always love reading where Roy gets all protective because I tend to think of him as a fatherly figure towards them, and it gives me warm fuzzies. Great job! :)

I'd love to see a sequel where the war is over and whoever survived comes to see the Elric's. More angsty if it's Roy who died, but reading about Ed punching him for being an idiot would be just as awesome. :)

Well, I wasn't expecting that. It was still good none the less. Wow there are a lot of good one shots tonight.

*rolls around in piles of angst* yes this is good, this is what I like. All the pain. All the guilt. All the good writing like 'woah there, you might need to slow down.'
And now I will stop talking like the crazy person that I pretend I'm not and say that this was awesome! A really interesting idea; I'd like to see the aftermath. Who ends up coming home in the end? How is Ed supposed to react to this? Does he confront his friends (namely Mustang) afterwards? Or does he reenlist and head to the front himself? And will I stop asking questions anytime soon? ((spoilers: the answer to the last one is yes))

This is really good! You could maybe have gotten away with cutting the bits with Mustang while Ed wasn't there (just so the reader finds out what's happening at the same time as Ed), but it's still really good. It's been rather a long time since I've enjoyed such a (relatively) short a one-shot this much, well done XD

That…does qualify as angst…however, it was also supremely adorable.
