This is the chapter of contrasts. Contrasts between appearance and essence: between the strong being that is Damon and the deplorable state in which he is now, between the apparent fragility of Elena and her fantastic inner power, her extreme courage and ultimate devotion (Elena is endangering herself cutting at her own clavicle and yet she did not hesitate a moment as to rescue him), between his apparent arrogance and self-confidence and, on the other hand, his profound low self-esteem...

I loved how meaningfully you used the space in the hospital room where holds most of the action and also the final image of the scene of life and love between Elena and Damon (thank you for this image, which will remain a long time in my affective memory!).

How beautiful analysis you have made on the darkest areas of Stefan's mind!

And you have built such a thrilling scene with Elena and her unconscious Damon ... I love (LOVE!) your Damon, that's for sure (how could I not?), :) but I have to applaud and commend you also for your Elena. You've managed to create a character - Elena - so alive! She moves, thinks, lives, breathes, feels. She hates Stefan. She loves Damon, although she don't identify (yet!) the nature (and the name) of her feeling. She has a certain tenderness for the frail life that grows in her (although she has doubts and fears about it). She feels...

The chapter is so well balanced, with its two different parts, both beautifully written, the first focused on Damon, the other centered on Elena.

1. The challenge that Damon launches to Stefan: "I dare you to come back and fight for her" (and I can imagine Damon saying this, it is so "in character"!) opens a conversation absolutely wonderfully built, all his words being specifically designed to cause a reaction. The conversation between the two brothers is simply tactical, it's a real verbal chess match, with suspense, tension, with occasional interventions from the outside (Ric), with small details that make the difference (for instance, Damon doesn't say "I'll slip into her bed", but "I'll slip BACK into her bed").

2. Emotion. The scene between Elena and Caroline runs into emotion and discovery: Elena discovers her pregnancy, she learns they have hidden for her this action full of dangers organized by Damon and Ric, she finds out that Damon is injured ...

Really enjoying this. Can't wait for an update.
