Apparition is indeed dangerous because you don't see where you land. Both Ronald Weasley and Kingsley Shacklebolt apparated into a group of snatchers and Charlie Weasley onto an old woman, a couple miles off his target.

When the Stoatshead Hill group landed in the portkey area during the Quidditch championship final they were told to move because the next group would arrive a couple minutes (forgot how many) later. "Minutes" are quite long if you only need to walk a few steps to get out of the way of the next portkey. So, they must be horribly insecure (and therefore can't be used to get to platform 9 3/4 as well). Btw, Frankfurt Airport aims for 126 aircraft movements per hour. That's 30 seconds per start or landing, a lot faster than with portkeys, and with more passengers to boot.

Floos however are able to handle a lot of people in a very short time. It's the main access to the ministry. And I expect many of those lazy purebloods to come just as their workday starts, not a minute earlier. And all without accidents. There must be some anti-collision magic or other involved. At least that's my interpretation.

And why do the elves worry about food at all? On the Hogwarts Express nobody does. Chocolate and other sweets are not real food. So the students will live if they don't get anything for lunch at Hogwarts.

I wonder what magical children who live in Hogsmeade and could walk think about all this? Also, there would be poor Muggleborn kids who couldn't get to London for the train because there wasn't enough money.

That actually makes sense. I can only imagine the scheduling NIGHTMARE of trying to coordinate that many people coming in, and not knowing when they would get there. It would take military precision to avoid complete chaos.

I like it. Most people think that to revolutionize Hogwarts they have to bring the children with Floo or Portkey but they never think about the complications, or that some people would like to Apparate... A realistic reason for the existence of the Express!
