Wow!

Not only do you know Asimov, you consider Poppy a Slytherin (me too). That is absolutely true to her character as I understand it, as is your recognition (sadly lacking in almost all writers, including Rowling) that there are many praiseworthy ambitions as well as inimical ones. She would indeed do what was necessary ~and~ keep reminders of the occasions on which she did so. The physical setup seems to imply that it's required for the assassin corps, but she'd do it even absent the rule. Unlike Dumbledore, she'd take all her duties seriously and not kid herself about any of them.

While your idea of her Oath is like no other I've seen or imagined, it is so plausible as to seem necessary to the magical world given Healers' great power. I don't find the idea disturbing at all. Too bad there is no way for us Muggles to identify incorruptible people for such work, with magical checks and balances to ensure that they remain incorruptible.

This story is absolutely fantastic. My other half read it first and then added it to Pocket, and was very insistent that I read it as soon as possible. He has good taste at least, because I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
